Apprenticeship as a Work-based Learning in Addis Ababa City Administration of Ethiopia

    Get PDF
This study aimed to examine apprenticeship from the standpoint of work-based learning and its function in skill development. Considering this, the study attempted to investigate historical settings as well as contemporary behaviors, including the potential and difficulties associated with apprenticeship. A qualitative method and quantitative data from documents were used to address this objective. Interviews were done to assess opportunities and difficulties throughout the apprenticeship. For analysis, the interview data were transcribed. To supplement this, documents and previous works on apprenticeship’s institutional, organizational (employers) and individual (apprentices) contexts were used. The approach and materials consulted were chosen depending on policy relevance and contextual appropriateness. Accordingly, research-based documents were thematically organized and analyzed. Hence, the results showed that the development of skills and work behavior was aided by apprenticeships as a route of skill transition. Because costs were matched by companies (enterprises) in this arrangement, it gave young people a chance to support themselves. However, part of the problem emanates from the traditional nature of apprenticeship, which has a low contribution to economic development. Weak linkage was also observed between vocational institutes and apprenticeship providers. Finally, policy alternatives were suggested to fill the existing deviation in the direction of school-to-work transition

Supply Chain Resilience in the Face of Floods: A Case Study of Humanitarian Efforts by the Social Welfare Department in Malaysia

    Get PDF
The objective of this study is to outline the issue of government-provided disaster relief management (JKMM) for flood victims during a disaster. Additionally, it examines communication and the planning of goods movement as key elements in determining the efficacy of Humanitarian Supply Chain Management (HSCM). This study focuses on the staff of the Social Welfare Department (JKMM), namely those from the Disaster Management Department and other agencies. The analysis of this research relies on a distinct dataset acquired from a survey conducted among the staff members. Researchers can more easily get quantitative measurements to analyze data on respondent variables. The operational sample comprises 137 participants. The study reveals that enhancing aspects related to the movement of goods and communication is crucial for improving the efficacy of HSCM. JKKM should ensure sufficient vehicle availability while simultaneously striving to minimize communication obstacles, such as limited network coverage. This paper stands out because of its unusual approach since it examines the challenges faced by the government agency (JKMM) in managing products for flood victims. This perspective sets it apart from earlier studies, which primarily focused on the experiences of flood victims and evacuation centers in Malaysia

This study offers valuable insights for policymakers, academic institutions, employers, and students, emphasizing the need for strategic internship placements to optimize accounting professional skills and better prepare students for the demands of the accounting professio

Cultural Event Development Model for Quality Improvement of Tourism Event: Case of the 3rd Fishing Boat Festival in Sungsang Village IV, Banyuasin Regency, South Sumatra Province

    Get PDF
Tourism related to events is a representation of the selling power of the location where the event is held. Festival events have an important role in increasing the selling value of destinations, but this study found that the 3rd Fishing Boat Festival event has not been packaged properly and there is no target market database targeted as tourists. This study aims to create a model for the development of cultural festivals, based on 5 basic stages, namely research, design, planning, coordination, evaluation and compiling a template for providing a database of targets and target tourists using the definable, sizeable, reachable, relevant segmentation method. This study used a combination method or mixed method with a sequential explanatory design with a sample of 100 respondents with 3 data collection techniques, namely by direct observation, document study and interview. This research resulted in 5 stages consisting of 40 steps of festival event management, as well as the targeted tourist segmentation profile. The research contributes to the achievement of the goal of improving the quality of cultural events in tourism villages

    Get PDF
Film tourism has emerged as a significant factor in enhancing tourist numbers by drawing visitors to locations depicted in movies and dramas. This study explores films' influence on Malaysians' perceptions and intentions to travel to these destinations. Utilizing the push and pull theory, the research examines how movies affect Malaysians' travel motivations and destination choices. Data were gathered through an online survey involving 267 Malaysian moviegoers, selected via convenience sampling. The findings indicate that several factors, including the reflection of personal values and interests in movies, significantly influence the intention to travel. Respondents expressed a stronger connection and likelihood to visit destinations featured in films that resonate with their interests. The study suggests that future research could employ different methodologies further to explore the impact of movies on tourist perceptions globally. Additionally, the findings underscore the potential for filmmakers, destination marketing organizations (DMOs), and local authorities to leverage films as powerful marketing tools to enhance tourist demand for real-life film locations

Green Innovation and firm Performance: An Empirical Study of China's Power Industry

    Get PDF
With China’s goal of achieving "carbon peak and neutrality”, green innovation has become an inevitable choice to accomplish the dual objective of ecological protection and economic growth. The objective of this study is to examine whether green innovation can contribute to enhancing firm performance. Specifically, this study empirically investigates the relationship between green innovation and firm performance by analyzing a sample of listed firms in China's A-share power industry from 2009 to 2022. By using panel fixed effect regression, this study found that green innovation markedly and positively enhances the firm's current performance. Furthermore, this paper tested the effect of green innovation on the firm's future performance, which is positive and greater than the effect on the current performance. Through data support spanning 14 years, this study verifies the theoretical hypothesis that green innovation can substantially enhance firm performance in the power industry. This not only deepens the understanding of how green innovation affects firm performance but also offers empirical evidence to support the further implementation and advancement of green innovation within the power industry. This study only uses a sample of a single industry, so the conclusions of this study do not have explanatory power for firms in other industries
