‘‘Ogya’’ Syndrome: Exploring Impacts of Ghanaians' Admiration for International Migration on Sustainable Economic Development

‘‘Ogya’’ syndrome jargon is a synonym for international migration. The study examines the impact of Ogya syndrome on Ghana’s sustainable economic development to determine whether it has positive or negative effects on the economy. The study is grounded in Haas’ structural functionalism theory and relates the topic in practical terms, which makes this study distinct from existing research. The paper employs a literature review method, also known as a ‘meta-study’. The study’s findings reveal that Ogya syndrome enhances significant benefits to Ghana’s economic development through rewards and remittances sent into the country, Ghanaian migrants upskill themselves, and on migrants' return, they transfer knowledge acquired internationally to non-migrants. Further, migrants undertake investments, developmental projects, and entrepreneurship ventures in Ghana’s economy, which have positive impacts on economic development. The negative findings reveal brain drain, remittances’ high dependency, and social impacts (loved ones’ separation and divorce). The paper argues that good government of Ghana’s (GoG) foreign policies will attract international migrants to contribute to sustainable economic development, whereas bad foreign policies will push them away. Therefore, effective foreign policies must be developed with strategies to harness the positive effects of international migration. However, negative effects such as brain drain and dependency need management and social intervention policies to curb them. The paper recommends good governance, stewardship, probity and accountability from all institutions. Further, Ghanaian immigrants’ remittances, investments into businesses, and other developmental projects should be charged less tax to encourage Ghanaian Diaspora’s remittances flow and migrants' return to contribute to economic growth and development

The Paradox of Continuance Commitment between Organizational Citizenship Behaviors and Signs of Burnout

This study examines the paradox of continuance commitment among Moroccan middle managers (N = 220), who operate under intense hierarchical pressure and demanding performance objectives. It explores how different forms of organizational commitment relate to organizational citizenship behaviors and early signs of burnout, while examining the mediating role of perceived social justice and empowering leadership. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire including validated measures of commitment, burnout, and citizenship behaviors, and analyzed using SPSS. Results show that continuance commitment is predominant, whereas affective and normative commitment remain weak. This pattern reflects constrained attachment associated with labor market conditions and is correlated with latent symptoms of burnout. Findings also demonstrate that perceived social justice and empowering leadership significantly mediate the relationship, enabling constrained commitment to evolve into more voluntary involvement and enhancing citizenship behaviors. The study highlights that high levels of continuance commitment should not be mistaken for genuine engagement. From a managerial perspective, organizations should strengthen fairness and adopt empowering leadership practices to reduce the risks of stress, disengagement, and resignation among operational managers. This research contributes to the literature by linking continuance commitment, burnout, and organizational citizenship behaviors in a non-Western context, highlighting the critical role of social justice and leadership as mediators

Sustainability practices and reporting provide the necessary information regarding firms' initiatives to balance their ethical and moral behavior in conducting business to align with stakeholders' requirements, and the existence of earnings management could threaten the objectives. These two intertwined concepts need to be understood thoroughly. Notwithstanding the plethora of studies examining the intersection of sustainability and EM, a notable gap exists in exploring research frontiers and the resourcefulness derived from past publications in this domain. Thus, the study aims to perform a bibliometric analysis of documents within this domain and fill the gap that specifically reflects in exploring the research frontiers and resourcefulness from past studies of sustainability and EM. The study conducted a bibliometric analysis of the 282 documents on the Scopus database for the period of 2005 to 2022 for sustainability and EM topics. Advanced tools such as Microsoft Excel to analyze the data, VosViewer, Wordshift, Harzing Publish and Perish for visualization and metric analysis have been used. The results reveal an increasing trend in scholarly interest in this topic. It also elucidates the evolution of language, influential authors, institutions, countries (with the top 3 countries being South Korea, China, and Indonesia), and keyword clusters. The analysis conveys insightful information for future researchers exploring the dynamic landscape of this topic. In conclusion, the study of sustainability and EM is experiencing a growing trajectory from researchers. It is recommended that future studies consider other keywords and use another databas

This study elicits the perspectives of university students and lecturers at the School of Accounting, Faculty of Economic and Business, Universitas Negeri Padang (UNP), regarding a visiting lecturer from the Faculty of Accountancy, Universiti Teknologi MARA, Malaysia. This is achieved by exploring their views on integrating international academic practices, their impact on student engagement, and potential collaborative opportunities in research and consultation.  A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining focus groups and surveys to capture the experiences and perceptions of students and lecturers regarding the visiting academics during their two-week visit—the research sample comprised university students and lecturers who interacted with the visiting lecturer during this period. The findings indicate that students displayed increased enthusiasm and participation in classes conducted by the visiting lecturer. Both students and lecturers appreciated the cultural exchange, acknowledging its role in enriching the learning environment with diverse perspectives. However, challenges such as language barriers and cultural adaptation were observed, though these were mitigated through support and effective communication.  The study stresses the need for structured support systems and improved integration approaches to enhance the effectiveness of visiting lecturer programs. Limitations include the short duration of the visit and the sample size, which may affect the generalizability of findings. This research contributes to the discourse on international academic collaboration by providing insights into improving visiting lecturer programs. It highlights the importance of fostering international academic partnerships to improve educational quality and cross-cultural engagement

Cracking the Code: A Systematic Literature Review of Factors Influencing Micro Business Technological Innovation Adoption

Microbusinesses are essential in promoting local economies by creating job opportunities, generating income, and improving community welfare. Yet, their adoption of technological innovation remains limited due to various internal and external barriers, making the research on this topic continue to expand and remain relevant. This study systematically reviews existing literature to identify the key determinants influencing technological innovation adoption in microbusinesses. The findings reveal that internal factors, such as digital literacy, education levels, psychological traits, and access to technology, play a significant role in shaping their adoption decisions. Notably, knowledge and education emerge as critical enablers, as informed microbusiness owners demonstrate a higher propensity for technological innovation adoption. External influences, including perceived usefulness and ease of use of technological innovation and social influence, further impact the adoption process. Based on these findings, targeted training programs with mentorship initiatives and policy interventions like financial incentives are recommended to facilitate this population's adoption of technological innovation. As for academics looking to review this topic systematically, future studies are suggested to incorporate a broader range of databases and must not stop replicating to continuously update the literature to include the most recent studies

This study examines the compliance of Malaysian government agencies' websites to the Malaysian Government Website and Service Monitoring System (SPLaSK), a governmental platform for enhancing transparency and accountability. Through an analysis of 899 agencies registered with SPLaSK as of January 2024, this research employs a qualitative research design utilizing semi-structured interviews and content analysis to evaluate the platform's effectiveness across six dimensions: accessibility, ease of use, quality of content, privacy/security, responsiveness, and reliability. The findings indicate a consistent increase in registered government agencies over the last three years, from 623 agencies in 2022 to 899 agencies in 2024. Among the 899 agencies in 2024, only 544 are active, with 282 (51.8%) achieving outstanding scores of at least 80%. Preliminary results suggest that SPLaSK has significantly contributed to improving governmental website standards, thereby fostering greater transparency and accountability. This paper underscores the potential of SPLaSK to enhance public administration and governance in the digital era

Marketing Mix Strategies: A Key Factor in Influencing Consumers’ Purchase Intention of Harumanis Mango in Perlis

This study examines the effect of the marketing mix (product, price, place, and promotion) on purchase intention and consumer purchasing decisions on Harumanis mango in Malaysia. The data in the study are quantitative using a primary data source. Data was collected using a convenience sampling method from April to June 2023. A set of questionnaires was distributed to the consumers who have experience in purchasing and eating Harumanis mango. A total of 310 respondents responded to the questionnaires, which were distributed online. The data was then filtered and proceeded to the data analysis. The results showed that the two elements, namely product and place, had a positive and significant effect on the purchase intention and purchasing decision of Harumanis, while the other two elements (price and promotion) were insignificant in influencing consumers’ intention to purchase Harumanis. Hence, the study recommends the government revise the ceiling price of Harumanis mango as the current market price of this mango is considered high, and an intensive promotional activity should be properly strategized to attract consumers to purchase Harumanis

Food waste in hospitals is a significant issue with implications for both environmental sustainability and healthcare efficiency. This study investigates the factors of food attributes influencing food waste behaviour among hospitalized patients in Hospital Raja Perempuan Zainab II (HRPZ II). Specifically, it seeks to examine how food quality, food presentation and food portion affect consumer behaviour towards food waste problems among hospitalized patients. A mixed-methods approach was used, collecting data via surveys from hospitalized patients. The questionnaire, divided into six sections employed a Likert scale for nuanced responses. This descriptive, cross-sectional study utilized purposive sampling to ensure relevant perspectives, targeting 417 respondents to boost validity and reliability. Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) Version 27 was used for data analysis from the questionnaire. The data analysis methods used include reliability analysis, descriptive analysis, Pearson correlation, and multiple regression analysis. The findings revealed that food attribute variables—food quality, food presentation and food portion—positively influence consumer behaviour towards food waste problems among hospitalized patients, with food presentation emerging as the most significant predictor. These findings highlight the critical need to minimize the environmental impact throughout the entire food cycle, from production to the disposal of leftover waste, to reduce food waste disposal problems in hospitals. Academically, this study serves as a foundation for future research, encouraging scholars and practitioners to further investigate the long-term effects of educational initiatives and cultural factors on food waste behaviors in advancing environmental sustainability
