TWISTED BUILDINGS: CONCEPTS AND APPROACHES
With the emerging of new technologies, the look for more sustainable towers appears. Through designing twisted towers, an aerodynamic and energy efficient structure can be made to reduce materials and wind loads towards it. By definition, a twisted building is one that has gradually rotating floor plates along its height. The problem here rises due to the risk of structural failure and lack of load transfer and unorganized interior function. Thus, this research aims to detect the design solutions used to execute the twisted buildings achieving stability, safety, and withstanding climatic effects. In order to accomplish the mentioned aim, the research will start with a literature review, desk research, highlighting previous readings solving the problem. Qualitative research will be conducted based on academic articles and the case study of projects such as Dubai’s Infinity Tower by SOM and the second tallest building in Saudi Arabia, the Diamond Tower in Jeddah
THE IMPACT OF EMERGING TECHNOLOGY ON NURSES CARING BEHAVIOR DURING BLOOD PRESSURE MONITORING FOR ADULT PATIENTS AT GENERAL HOSPITALS, KUWAIT.
Introduction: The nursing profession has advanced immensely from the onset. Remarkable changes in medical technology facilitated patients’ survival and treatments which were unimaginable during the period of Florence Nightingale. Although, technology empowered the nurses to provide quality care to patients, some of these technologies can break the bond of therapeutic nurse - patient relationship and make it mechanical, instead. Purpose: The purpose of the study was to evaluate nurses caring behavior during blood pressure monitoring with manual and electronic devices. Objective: Compare the nurses caring behavior while monitoring blood pressure by electronic and manual devices. Methods: a descriptive comparative design was used in this study. The staff nurses (N=325) were selected randomly based on certain criteria from the medical wards of five governmental hospitals. Observations were done during blood pressure monitoring with manual and electronic devices using nursing caring behavior assessment tool. Result: Paired t-test was used to examine the differences in nurses caring behavior. There were significant differences in the mean scores between the manual BP monitoring and the electronic in terms of nursing caring behavior, t(324) = -8.66, P\u3e 0.001. Conclusion: Nurses were able to give more humanistic caring behavior when they monitored blood pressure manually than when blood pressure was monitored electronically. Recommendations: Workshop sessions can be conducted for staff nurses to emphasize the importance of providing a humanistic approach while providing care for the patients when using the technology
SMART BUILDING ENERGY MODEL USING ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
This paper presents a Smart Building Energy Model of Residential Building using Artificial Neural Network model (ANN) to assist architects and engineers in selecting the optimum alternative design of building envelope parameters such that external wall and roof insulation material types and window types that minimizes the cost of energy consumption of a residential building to transform it to a green building.
Up to 1540 Simulations using different material thickness and conductivity values of material insulation properties and windows types are carried out in eQuest software for simulation.. The simulations results are implemented to create an artificial neural network inverse model (ANN) with Matlab/Simulink and the performance is investigated. The results from the artificial neural network outputs and the corresponding eQuest simulation outputs were found very close. In addition, the Mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) is equal to 0.49% , demonstrating a best correlation between outputs and target value, the results show a great solution with good accuracy to predict the energy consumption of residential building for several other building envelope optimization parameters.
A NOVEL ARABIC CORPUS FOR TEXT CLASSIFICATION USING DEEP LEARNING AND WORD EMBEDDING
Over the last years, Natural Language Processing (NLP) for Arabic language has obtained increasing importance due to the massive textual information available online in an unstructured text format, and its capability in facilitating and making information retrieval easier. One of the widely used NLP task is “Text Classification”. Its goal is to employ machine learning technics to automatically classify the text documents into one or more predefined categories. An important step in machine learning is to find suitable and large data for training and testing an algorithm. Moreover, Deep Learning (DL), the trending machine learning research, requires a lot of data and needs to be trained with several different and challenging datasets to perform to its best. Currently, there are few available corpora used in Arabic text categorization research. These corpora are small and some of them are unbalanced or contains redundant data. In this paper, a new voluminous Arabic corpus is proposed. This corpus is collected from 16 Arabic online news portals using an automated web crawling process. Two versions are available: the first is imbalanced and contains 3252934 articles distributed into 8 predefined categories. This version can be used to generate Arabic word embedding; the second is balanced and contains 720000 articles also distributed into 8 predefined categories with 90000 each. It can be used in Arabic text classification research. The corpus can be made available for research purpose upon request. ELECTRONIC TRANSACTION AND PERSONAL DATA LAW-LAW OF EVIDENCE
With the enactment of new e-transactions and data protection law issued on 10 October 2018 (Law No.81/2018), Lebanon is now one of 145 countries that have an e-transaction law and 107 countries with a data protection law. One core achievement of Law No.81/2018 lies in its acknowledgment of the 2 main elements of the electronic document: the electronic writing and the e-signature. The Law\u27s main input in this respect relates to endeavouring to equate e-signatures and e-documents with paper-based signatures and documents. It is noteworthy that, until the enactment of the Law, electronic communications were only able to be relied upon as preliminary evidence in Lebanon. However, the Law and surrounding framework is not yet sufficient to allow for e-documents and paper-based documents to be treated alike in all respects. More importantly, until authentication service providers (also referred to as certification service providers or CSPs) are approved by the Lebanese Accreditation Council (COLIBAC), which is yet to determine the conditions for such accreditation, the courts will have discretionary power to assess the evidentiary weight and reliability of all e-documents and corresponding electronic signatures
A GENERAL OVERVIEW OF LUCRATIVE MISCONDUCT
Les fautes lucratives suscitent aujourd\u27hui encore de nombreuses interrogations notamment en raison de l\u27absence de dispositions légales circonscrivant la notion. Pourtant, en droit des affaires, la nécessité de sanctionner la faute délibérément commise et profitable pour son auteur est souhaitable. La faute lucrative recouvre deux situations : soit elle laisse subsister un profit ou un gain à l\u27auteur du dommage, donc au débiteur de l\u27indemnisation ; soit elle permet au créancier de l\u27indemnisation de s\u27enrichir au-delà de la réparation intégrale de ses préjudices. Les premiers ayant proposé une définition de la faute lucrative furent Starck, Roland et Boyer qui dans leur ouvrage décrivaient la faute lucrative comme les fautes qui, malgré les dommages et intérêts que le responsable est condamné à payer laissent à leur auteur une marge bénéficiaire suffisante pour qu\u27il n\u27y ait aucune raison de ne pas les commettre
BEIRUT PORT’S SPARKLE IN ARABIC POETRYومضة مرفأ بيروت في الشعر العربي
The explosion that occurred at Beirut port on the 4th of August 2020 was not a transient event, but rather a dreadful disaster the Lebanese have faced. It echoed in Arabic poetry. Some depicted the disaster, some denounced it, and some depicted Beirut as a doomed city, so they lamented it. The odd thing about it is that most poets who wrote about the explosion developed short poems or poetic flashes. Their expressions came out as intense, quick, and denounced, and were therefore honest. However, the arguments presented in their poems were clashes between life and death. The results were either fleeing, silence, or sobbing.
لم يكن الانفجار الذي وقع في مرفأ بيروت في 4 آب عام 2020 حدثًا عابرًا، بل هو كارثة أصابت اللبنانيّين في الصّميم، وتركت صدًى على ألسنة الشعراء؛ فمنهم من صوّر الكارثة، ومنهم من استنكرها، ومنهم من تعامل مع بيروت بوصفها مدينة منكوبة فراح يرثيها. واللافت في الأمر هو أنّ معظم الشعراء الذين تناولوا هذا الموضوع اعتمدوا القصيدة القصيرة أو الومضة الشعريّة، فجاءت تعبيراتهم مكثّفة، وسريعة، ومستنكرة، فنضحت عاطفة صادقة. أمّا الجدليّات في قصائدهم فقد فرضتها الوقائع تدافعًا بين الحياة والموت في أوسع مجالاته، فكانت النتيجة هروبًا أو صمتًا أو عويلاً
ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE AND LAW -A COMPARATIVE CRITICAL STUDY IN THE FRENCH AND QATARI CIVIL LEGISLATIONS-IN LIGHT OF THE EUROPEAN CIVIL LAW RULES ON ROBOTICS OF 2017 AND THE COMPREHENSIVE EUROPEAN INDUSTRIAL POLICY ON ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE AND ROBOTICS OF 2019
The subject matter of this research paper discusses the nature of the relationship between law and artificial intelligence. The paper presents the nature of this relationship according to a critical study comparing the French legislative reality with its Qatari counterpart, in light of the European civil law rules on robotics of 2017, and the Comprehensive European industrial policy on artificial intelligence and robotics of 2019. The study is carried out in two main axes that formed the two main sections of this study. The first path dealt with the protection of artificial intelligence , by protecting the results of this intelligence at various levels; in its concrete form Robot and intangible Logarithms and Software. The second path addressed the protection of the society in its various components in terms of ensuring that our basic rights and freedoms are not violated, in addition to determining the nature of legal liability resulting from the illegal use of this intelligence. The research concluded that there is a clear deficiency of legislation - albeit with some variation - in the nature of the legal treatment of many points raised by artificial intelligence in both the French and the Qatari civil legislations, whether in relation to the legal rules concerning the protection of intellectual property rights, especially those related to the protection of intellectual property rights of artificial intelligence, or to the recognition of the legal personality of the tangible form of artificial intelligence represented by robotics. On the other hand, the research stressed the need to codify the process of using artificial intelligence in order to ensure respect for the latter and those responsible for the basic rights and freedoms of individuals. The research also showed that, in the absence of the cognitive aspect of artificial intelligence, the main pillar of the idea of its legal liability in both the French and Qatari legislations, the error remains a human error of unconventional concept, which requires both legislators to reconsider the legal rules governing their notion of legal liability, consistent with the specificity and nature of this liability. Therefore, the research recommended the need to ensure the ethics of using artificial intelligence in both legislations, through the development of a code of ethical work outlining the various aspects of its work, as well as the rights and duties ensuing, in order to ensure the re-harmonization of various related legal texts within the spirit and philosophy of the relationship between the artificial intelligence and the law, and the nature of the legal system for both the French and Qatari legislators
