Objective: To evaluate whether ovarian volume is correlated with hormonal status and frequent symptoms in menopausal period. Methods: Sixty-two postmenopausal women who applied for routine yearly gynecological control included. After measurement of ovarian volumes by using Virtual Organ Computer-aided Analysis volume analysis, hormonal levels, and evaluation of symptoms with standardized menopause-specific quality of life questionnaire, comparisons and correlation analysis were performed. Results: When the time of menopausal period increases the ovarian volume decreased (p=0.026), and earlier menopause age correlated with lower ovarian volume (p=0.014). Although the results did not reach statistically significance, a negative correlation between ovarian volumes and follicle stimulating hormone levels and a positive correlation between ovarian volumes and Estradiol levels were found (p=0.46, p=0.26). There was no correlation between ovarian volume analyses with hormonal status and menopausal symptoms. Conclusion: Both the severity and type of menopausal symptoms and hormonal status do not relate with ovarian volume after the menopause. This finding may be useful to decide to perform oophorectomy or not at the time of hysterectomy in menopausal ages
Effects of Different Doses of Nanoparticle Fullerenol C60 on Wound Healing in Rats
The aim of current study was to investigate the effects of three different doses of nanoparticle fullerenol C60 (F-C60), which has an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects, on wound healing in rats with an experimental excisional wound model. Rats were divided into four groups (n = 7). F-C60 was administered at dose of 0.2 mg/kg intraperitoneal (i.p.) to group lower-dose F-C60, 1 mg/kg i.p. to group middle-dose F-C60, and 5 mg/kg i.p. to group higher-dose F-C60 30 min before from anesthesia. The group control received i.p. physiological saline. A wound was created via excisional model under anesthesia and rats were sacrificed 3 days after wound formation. Wound healing percentages were found by measuring wound diameters. Interleukins (IL-1β, IL-6), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), malondialdehyde (MDA), glutathione peroxidase (GPx), myeloperoxidase (MPO), superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), reactive oxygen species (ROS) were assessed. Histopathological analysis was performed. Kruskal Wallis and one-way ANOVA with post-hoc Tukey tests were used for statistical analysis (p < 0.05). IL-1β, IL-6, MPO, and MDA levels were statistically lower in group higher-dose F-C60 compared to the group control. Wound healing percentages of the groups were similar. There were no statistically significant differences between the groups in terms of TNF-α, ROS, SOD, CAT, and GPx levels, but the levels of antioxidant enzymes were lower in the group higher-dose F-C60. There were no statistically significant differences between the groups in terms of histopathological parameters. F-C60 promoted wound healing by reducing the level of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-1β, IL-6 and alleviating inflammation. The current study was terminated on the 3rd postoperative day and this is may be the reason the unchanged results of some parameters such as wound healing percentages and histopathological parameters. F-C60 also demonstrated ameliorative effects on wound by reducing oxidative stress, lipid peroxidation, and by preventing the production of antioxidant enzymes. As a result, F-C60 may be a potential agent with these positive effects on wound healing
Caregiver burden in forensic mental health settings: social impacts on caregivers of individuals with severe mental disorders
Caregivers of individuals with severe mental disorders face profound challenges, particularly when patients have criminal histories. Social functioning and perceived social support are central to caregiver burden. This cross-sectional study investigated the role of sociodemographic, illness-related, social, and support factors in 160 family caregivers of forensic inpatients. The Zarit Caregiver Burden Scale, Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support and Social Adaptation Self-Evaluation Scale were used. Caregivers exposed to patient violence reported greater burden (β = −.69, p <.001). Social functioning was a strong negative predictor (β = −.43, p <.001). Family support moderated the association between social functioning and caregiver burden, amplifying its protective role, whereas perceived support alone was not a direct predictor. Overall, social functioning emerged as the strongest determinant of caregiver burden, with family support reinforcing its impact
