Departmental Bulletin PaperOxymoron is a figure of speech which combines two contradictory or incongruous words in encoded meaning, such as‘a true lie,’ Isogaba maware (More haste, less speed.), and Chiisana kyojin (Little big man).\nSuch expressions are semantically incompatible, but the hearer can interpret what the speaker intends to communicate. In this paper, we will be concerned with oxymoron based on the Relevance Theory developed by Sperber and Wilson (1986/1995), and explain how the inferential processes of recovering the explicit content of the utterance, such as ad hoc concepts construction and saturation contribute to the interpretation of this figure of speech.departmental bulletin pape

Departmental Bulletin PaperThis paper examines a media that published by young people's association in Tatuoka village, Nagano prefecture, from 1930 to 1940. Similar types of media are found in Nagano Prefecture, and many of the previous studies have argued that it was young people's association's official newspaper. In this paper, it is clarified that it was not a association's official newspaper but a newspaper that reported the situation of the village. And this paper revealed that it was strongly influenced by the media situation surrounding the village and the national newspaper control at that time.departmental bulletin pape
