Bimodal Effects of P2Y Antagonism on Matrix Metalloproteinase-Associated Contractile Dysfunction in İnsulin-Resistant Mammalian Heart.
The matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) contribute to matrix remodeling in diabetes via tissue degradation; however, their contributions can be different depending on the pathology. For instance, MMPs are elevated in acute stress hyperglycemia, whereas they can be degraded in chronic hyperglycemia. Since studies emphasize the possible cardioprotective effect of ticagrelor (Tica) beyond its antiplatelet action, we aimed to examine whether Tica treatment can reverse the depressed heart function of metabolic syndrome (MetS) rats via affecting the expression levels of MMPs. Tica treatment of high-carbohydrate-induced MetS rats could not affect significantly the depressed contractile activity of Langendorff-perfused heart preparations. On the other hand, the Tica treatment provided a significant recovery in the reduced relaxation activity of the aortic preparations from the same animals. Histological examination of the hearts demonstrated marked damages in Mets rats, such as increases in the number of foamy cells and accumulation of collagen fiber and increases in the elastic lamellar irregularity of tunica media, while Tica treatment provided a slight improvement in the structure of left ventricle tissue. We also could not obtain a significant reverse in the high cytosolic labile Zn ([Zn]) with the treatment of cardiomyocytes with Tica. Furthermore, Tica treatment of MetS rats could not significantly reverse the degraded protein levels of MMP-2 and MMP-9 in the heart, as well. Overall, we demonstrated that Tica treatment of MetS rats has no significant benefits on the depressed heart function, although provide a significant beneficial impact on vascular relaxation. This action of Tica may be through its lack of action on both MMP degradation and high [Zn], which can further precipitate in cleavage of extracellular matrix in the heart
Variation of the Inferior Mesenteric Vein's Drainage Pattern and its Clinical Significance
The anatomical joining and drainage of the inferior mesenteric vein (IMV) into the splenic vein are usually reported in the anatomical literature. Nevertheless, the joining and drainage of IMV into the superior mesenteric vein or the junction between the splenic vein and the superior mesenteric vein are also possible. During routine dissections of the abdomen for anatomy education in the Department of Anatomy Laboratory in the Faculty of Medicine at the Gazi University, a variaton of IMV was observed in a 66-year-old male cadaver. It is certainly useful for surgeons, as well as interventional radiologists, to be informed about mesenteric venous variations
Does social support affect menopausal symptoms in menopausal women?
Purpose To determine the effect of perceived social support of menopausal women on their menopausal complaints. Design and Methods This descriptive and correlational study was conducted with 505 women. The data were obtained using personal information form, menopause rating scale, and multidimensional scale of perceived social support. Frequency, percentage, t test, analysis of variance Skewness and Kurtosis (+/- 1) and correlation were used in the analysis of the data. Findings In the study, it was found that there was a positive and significant relationship between menopausal symptoms and social support, and menopausal symptoms decreased as social support increased. Practice Implications Nurses should provide consultancy for women to increase their social support systems to decrease their menopausal complaints
Relationships Between Emotional Intelligence, Mental Skills and Techniques: A Research on Professional Athletes
The purpose of this research is to examine the relationships between the levels of mental skills and techniques of university students, who continue their sports life as licensed in different sports branches, and the emotional intelligence in sports. A total of 169 athletes, 91 male (53.8%) (M-age=25.36 +/- 6.06) and 78 female (46.2%) (M-age=23.03 +/- 4.98), who continue their professional sports life in different sports branches, voluntarily participated in the research. The research was designed in relational screening model. Personal Information Form, Mental Training Inventory in Sport, and Emotional Intelligence Inventory in Sport, which were created by the researchers, were used as data collection tools within the scope of the research. In the analysis of the data, firstly, the skewness and kurtosis values were checked for the normality assumptions and it was determined that the distribution was normal. In this direction, t-test was used to compare two independent groups, Pearson correlation analysis was used to determine the relationships between the variables, and multiple linear regression analysis was used to determine the power of the independent variables in predicting the dependent variable. When the findings obtained within the scope of the research were examined, it was determined that the emotional intelligence sub-dimensions significantly predicted the components of mental training skills and techniques. In this context, a result was obtained that as the level of emotional intelligence increases, the levels of mental training skills and techniques will also increase. However, when the analyzes for demographic variables were examined within the scope of the research, it was determined that there was a significant difference within the groups. As a result, it is recommended to include programs on emotional intelligence and mental training skills and techniques in the training of athletes in order to achieve the optimal range of sportive performance
The association between urinary BPA levels and medical equipment among pediatric intensive care patients.
We aim to evaluate urinary total BPA (tBPA) levels and association with medical devices used on patients in pediatric intensive care units. This cross-sectional descriptive study included 117 critically ill children. Urinary tBPA levels were determined using high-performance liquid chromatography. General estimating equations with repeated measures analyzed the effect of interventions and devices on urinary BPA levels. A total of 292 urine samples taken from 117 child intensive care patients were studied. When age, sex, and body mass index-for age z-scores were controlled, cases having endotracheal intubation showed higher urinary tBPA levels (p = 0.003) and hemodialyzed patients had considerably higher urinary tBPA levels (p = 0.004). When confounding factors were controlled, cases using both multiple iv treatment and more than four medical devices showed higher urinary tBPA levels than their counterparts (p = 0.007 and p = 0.028, respectively). The use of certain medical devices and interventions could increase BPA exposure in pediatric intensive care patients
The effectiveness of two different exercise approaches in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis: A single-blind, randomized-controlled trial.
Objectives
The purpose of this study was to compare the efficacy of two different types of exercise methods in patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis.
Methods
In total, 28 subjects with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis with a mild curve magnitude (10 degrees-26 degrees) were randomly divided into two groups: the Schroth group (n = 14) and the core group (n = 14). The patients in the Schroth group were treated with supervised Schroth exercises, and the patients in the core group were treated with supervised core stabilization exercises; both groups performed the exercises for three days per week for a total of 10 weeks, and both were given additional traditional exercises to perform. Assessment included Cobb angle (Radiography), trunk rotation (Adam's test), cosmetic trunk deformity (Walter Reed Visual Assessment Scale), spinal mobility (Spinal Mouse), peripheral muscle strength (Biodex System 4-Pro), and quality of life (Scoliosis Research Society-22 questionnaire).
Results
It was found that patients in the Schroth group showed greater improvement in Cobb angles, thoracic trunk rotation angle, cosmetic trunk deformity, spinal mobility, and quality of life than those in the core group (p<0.05), except for in lumbar trunk rotation angle. Peripheral muscle strength improvement was greater in the core group than in the Schroth group (p<0.05).
Conclusion
Schroth exercises are more effective than core stabilization exercises in the correction of scoliosis and related problems in mild adolescent idiopathic scoliosis, and core stabilization exercises are more effective than Schroth exercises in the improvement of peripheral muscle strength

Coronavirus disease 2019 vaccine: An overview of the progression and current use
On December 31, 2019; unidentified pneumonia cases were reported from China. It was soon announced that these cases were of viral origin and the cause was a new coronavirus (CoV). Initially, the virus was called "novel CoV" and then defined as "severe acute respiratory syndrome CoV 2 (SARS-CoV-2)" after more detailed investigations. The disease caused by SARS-CoV-2 was named CoV disease 2019 (COVID-19) by the World Health Organization. The rapid spread of the disease in a few months has resulted in a global pandemic and it continues. However, there are no specific effective anti-viral drugs for SARS-CoV-2 infection, some antiviral drugs are using in the therapy of COVID-19 with limited success. Currently, for the prevention of the pandemic, global vaccination seems to be important. Antiviral protection of vaccines is provided by the development of antibodies that can neutralize the virus. Antibody response develops against spike protein and nucleocapsid protein but neutralizing antibodies are formed against the receptor-binding domain of the spike protein. It has also been shown that most viral proteins are recognized in T-cell responses. Vaccine discovery trials for COVID-19 have begun all over the world since the outbreak began. More than 100 vaccine studies against COVID-19 have been published in the last year. Some of them were urgently approved and used worldwide. Effect of Anti-Rotational Abutment Features and Novel Computerized Fabrication Techniques on the Marginal Fit of Implant-Supported Metal Copings.
Purpose: An in vitro study to compare the marginal fit of cobalt-chromium (Co-Cr) metal copings fabricated with selective laser melting (SLM), computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) milling, and lost-wax (LW) techniques, on abutments with two different antirotational features. Materials and Methods: A total of 60 stainless steel abutments with the same length and convergence angles were fabricated using a numerical control machining. Half of the abutments had one flat plane, while the other half had three grooves as an antirotation feature. Thirty abutments of each kind were then divided into three subgroups, and metal copings were fabricated with SLM, CAD/CAM milling, or the LW technique (n = 10). The metal copings were cemented with polycarboxylate cement. Marginal gap measurements were performed using a stereomicroscope at a magnification of × 45 and data were analyzed with two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) tests. Results: The LW (p = 0.002) and CAD/CAM (p < 0.001) techniques exhibited increased marginal gaps on the abutments with a three groove antirotational feature; however, no significant difference was detected with the SLM technique (p = 0.259). The copings fabricated with the SLM technique demonstrated significantly lower gap values in both abutment types (p < 0.001). Conclusion: While all marginal gap values were within the clinically acceptable range (<120 µm), abutments with more antirotational grooves exhibited wider marginal gaps with the LW and CAD/CAM techniques. © 2020 by the American College of Prosthodontist
