"Palace of the Peacock". Wilson Harris y la escansión de la lengua
Get PDFWilson Harris\u27s first novel, The Palace of the Peacock (1960), narrates the journey of a river expedition through the jungles of Guyana. This novel has been read as being determined by the search for identity or a kind of destined truth, represented by the almost symbolic-mystical journey of characters in whose development they understand themselves. In contrast to an identitarian reading, the essay proposes that Harris has no ownership of language and no language of his own. Thus, Issues of passage, threshold, and crossing run through the narrative. Grammar, semantics, and syntax are twisted. Like the temporality of the story, the syntactic relations enter into a sort of ellipsis or spiral. Thus, rather than expression of a previous content, fulfillment or reconstitution, language is limbo. If there is no originary language, The Palace of the Peacock thus names the scansion of languageLa primera novela de Wilson Harris, The Palace of the Peacock (1960), narra el viaje de una expedición fluvial a través de las selvas de Guyana. La novela ha sido leída como estando determinada por la búsqueda de la identidad o una suerte de verdad destinal, representada por el viaje casi de orden simbólico-místico de personajes en cuyo desarrollo se comprenden a sí mismos. A diferencia de una lectura identitaria, el ensayo propone que en Harris no hay propiedad de la lengua ni lengua propia. Los asuntos del pasaje, del umbral, del cruce, atraviesan, así, el relato. Gramática, semántica, sintaxis, se tuercen. Como la temporalidad del relato, las relaciones sintácticas entran en una suerte de elipsis o espiral. Experiencias de transición ecosocial en Ecuador desde la economía social solidaria y la agroecología
Get PDFBased on the analysis of two ecosocial transition initiatives in Ecuador, inscribed in the principles of the Social and Solidarity Economy (SSE) and agroecology, we seek to contribute to the global debate on ecosocial transitions from a Southern perspective. The article discusses the key points for ecosocial transitions to take place in terms of radical alternativity. To this end, we study three dimensions: i) alternative economic relations, ii) food sovereignty, and iii) gender and sustainability of life. We show how these experiences serve to elucidate the localized effects of global capitalism, providing plausible alternatives for systemic transition.A partir del análisis de dos iniciativas de transición ecosocial en Ecuador, inscritas en los principios de la economía social y solidaria (ESS) y la agroecología, buscamos contribuir al debate global sobre las transiciones ecosociales desde una perspectiva del Sur. En el artículo, se discuten los puntos clave para que las transiciones ecosociales se den en términos de alternatividad radical. Para ello, estudiamos tres dimensiones: i) relaciones económicas alternativas, ii) soberanía alimentaria y iii) género y sostenibilidad de la vida. Mostramos cómo estas experiencias sirven para dilucidar los efectos localizados del capitalismo global, brindando alternativas plausibles de transición sistémica

La problemática que ofrece el mantenimiento y conservación del patrimonio conventual en Aragón se aborda desde la exposición de los factores que la determinan, tanto en el ámbito rural como el urbano, con un apartado dedicado al análisis de las posibilidades de intervención existentes desde la administración autonómica en Aragón, y de sus limitaciones. Se analiza el caso específico del Monasterio de las Canonesas del Santo Sepulcro en Zaragoza y la solución que la propia comunidad monástica ofreció a las instituciones públicas. Finalmente, se plantea una propuesta de creación de un organismo que planifique y aborde las actuaciones de preservación necesarias para atender el grave riesgo de pérdida patrimonial al que nos enfrentamos.
Abstract
The issues related to the maintenance and conservation of conventual heritage in Aragón are addressed by explaining the factors that determine them, both in rural and urban areas, with a section dedicated to analyzing the existing intervention possibilities from the regional administration in Aragon and their limitations. The specific case of the Monastery of the Canonesses of the Holy Sepulchre in Zaragoza is analyzed, along with the solution that the monastic community itself offered to public institutions. Finally, a proposal is made for the creation of an organization that would plan and address the necessary preservation actions to tackle the serious risk of heritage loss we face.

Patrimonio etnográfico (material e inmaterial) de una comunidad de vida contemplativa: Ethnographic heritage (material and immaterial) of a contemplative community

El objetivo de este trabajo ha sido narrar de forma muy escueta cómo ocuparon su tiempo unas mujeres de vida contemplativa a través del patrimonio etnográfico que se ha atesorado en el convento de canonesas comendadoras del Santo Sepulcro de Zaragoza. Cultura material, objetos que se conservan porque fueron parte de la vida cotidiana para alimentarse, rezar, cantar, dormir o morir. Objetos que se necesitaron cuando la pobreza formó parte de sus vidas y para no romper ese espacio de espiritualidad femenina mantenido durante setecientos años, no dudaron en crear una Sala de Labor, un obrador para elaborar pan eucarístico u otros trabajos que les sirvieran de medio económico para salir adelante y de los que se han conservado tanto el instrumental como parte de las materias primas que emplearon para ejecutarlos, así como los motivos o canales por los que otros objetos se conservan aquí. Pero también se ha explorado la topografía interior del convento para, a través de la memoria de las religiosas actuales, reconstruir los recuerdos de cómo se usaron los espacios más significativos de la clausura que nos acercan a su patrimonio inmaterial, a la intrahistoria de este lugar.
Abstract
The aim of this work has been to narrate in a very brief way how some women of contemplative life spent their time through the ethnographic heritage that has been treasured in the convent of canonesses commanders of the Holy Sepulchre of Zaragoza. Material culture, objects that are preserved because they were part of daily life to eat, to pray, to sing, to sleep or to die. Objects that were needed when poverty was part of their lives and in order not to break that space of feminine spirituality maintained for seven hundred years, they did not hesitate to create a Embroidery Room, a workshop to make Eucharistic bread or other jobs that served as an economic means to get ahead and of which both the instruments and part of the raw materials they used to execute them have been preserved, as well as the reasons or channels by which other objects are kept here. But the interior topography of the convent has also been explored in order to reconstruct, through the memories of the current nuns, the memories of how the most significant spaces of the cloister were used, which brings us closer to its intangible heritage, to the inner history of this place.

El impacto ambiental en el aprendizaje del proyecto de arquitectura
Get PDFThe immediate future will be characterized by the double environmental crisis that is already being felt in the present: the climate change and the depletion of natural resources, with their consequences in the population’s health. Schools of architecture in Spain do not seem to have incorporated these two variables into their curricula or have not done so systematically in the core of their training: the architectural design as opportunity to synthesize the knowledge and skills obtained in specialized subjects. Today, everything seems to indicate that decisions aimed at guaranteeing the well-being of the population in this context of environmental emergency will be hasty and improvised. A consequence of this possibility would be that the resilience of buildings and infrastructures would prevail over the cultural component of architecture. It is therefore necessary to propose strategies for the integrated design of buildings and public spaces that can be a viable alternative to urgent and fragmented measures. This article analyses a simple method of introducing these aspects into architectural project learning and its implementation, analysing the effect of simple quantitative approaches to environmental impact on design decisions.El futuro inmediato se caracterizará por la doble crisis ambiental que ya se está dejando sentir en el presente: el cambio climático y el agotamiento de recursos naturales, con sus derivadas en la salud de la población. Las escuelas de arquitectura españolas no parecen haber incorporado esas dos variables a sus planes de estudios, o no lo han hecho de forma sistemática en el núcleo de su formación: el proyecto en tanto que ocasión de síntesis de los conocimientos y habilidades obtenidos en asignaturas especializadas. Hoy en día, todo parece indicar que las decisiones orientadas a garantizar el bienestar de la población en ese contexto de emergencia ambiental serán apresuradas e improvisadas. Una consecuencia de esta posibilidad sería que la resiliencia de edificios e infraestructuras se impondría a la componente cultural de la arquitectura. Es necesario, pues, plantear estrategias de diseño integrado de edificios y espacios públicos que puedan ser una alternativa viable a las medidas urgentes y fragmentarias. El presente artículo analiza un método sencillo de introducir esos aspectos en el aprendizaje del proyecto de arquitectura y su puesta en práctica, analizando el efecto de las aproximaciones cuantitativas simples del impacto ambiental en las decisiones de diseño

Get PDFResearching on cinema as a means of creation, diffusion, and propaganda of the image of architecture, as well as the construction of our collective imaginaries and the symbolic appropriation of spaces, is also to work in favor of architecture. Therefore, to approach the relationship between architecture and cinema in international meetings of architects, where ideas were exchanged while architectural cinema was exhibited and awarded, is the general objective of this work in order to recover the knowledge of what existed and has disappeared from memory. The specific objective is to focus it on the event that consecrated the official union between both technical arts: the First International Festival of Architectural Films at the 8th Congress of the International Union of Architects (Union Internationale des Architectes, UIA), held in Paris in 1965. The text responds to a historiographic approach that investigates an archeology of documentary cinema linked to architecture and is a pioneer in identifying and inventorying the qualified filmography as an audiovisual framework in which the professional meetings took place, as well as their influence among the Spanish architects who attended. Recovering this heritage of the re-presentation and re-production of architecture is crucial for the training of students, which in recent times has been inexorably linked to these audiovisual media of communication and dissemination of information.Investigar sobre el cine como medio de creación, difusión y propaganda de la imagen de la arquitectura, así como la construcción de nuestros imaginarios colectivos y la apropiación simbólica de los espacios, es también trabajar a favor de la arquitectura. Por tanto, abordar la relación entre arquitectura y cine en reuniones internacionales de arquitectos, donde se intercambiaban ideas mientras se exhibía y premiaba cine de arquitectura, es el objetivo general de este trabajo en aras de recuperar el conocimiento de lo que existió y ha desaparecido de la memoria. El objetivo concreto es centrarla en el evento que consagró la unión oficial entre ambas artes técnicas: el Primer Festival Internacional de Cine de Arquitectura en el VIII Congreso de la Unión Internacional de Arquitectos (Union Internationale des Architectes, UIA), celebrado en París en 1965. El texto responde a un enfoque historiográfico que investiga en una arqueología del cine documental vinculado con la arquitectura y es pionero al identificar e inventariar la cualificada filmografía en cuanto marco audiovisual en el que se desarrollaron las reuniones profesionales, así como su influencia entre los arquitectos españoles asistentes. Recuperar este patrimonio de la re-presentación y re-producción de la arquitectura es decisivo para la formación de estudiantes que, en los últimos tiempos, va inexorablemente unida a estos medios audiovisuales de comunicación y difusión de la información
