First Year of Mapmaking Project “Yoita Tansa Keikaku”
application/pdfThe author and his laboratory students are now working on a fieldwork-based mapmaking project in Yoita, Nagaoka City. This article reports on the process of the first year of the project.
We first explored Yoita in a small group and decided on two themes, “Ayashii (strange)” and “Kawaii(cute),” for the map to be produced. Next, NID students participated in a citywalk event and collected a large number of “strange” and “cute” objects. We created two maps reflecting these items, and held a citywalk and exhibition to unveil the maps. The maps caused interaction with various actors such as students, local people and event participants, and shifted total mode of the project dramatically.departmental bulletin pape

the series ʻʻPHOTO GRAPHʼʼ
application/pdfWe look at vast amounts of images on a daily basis through our screens. Images today are consumed without any attention to detail. Jun Iizukaʼs 「PHOTOGRAPH series」 is based on the motif of pixels(picture cells) the smallest unit of color signals that make up a digital image. By presenting color extracted from a photograph as a fragment of an image, Jun Iizukaʼs approach is to rekindle the sense of “imagination” that we are forgetting today.departmental bulletin pape
Kinship:A Form of Artistic Intelligence
application/pdfThis article discusses the way of thinking that “connects completely different things”, which is important in “Artistic intelligence”, by relying on Benjamin’s concept of “kinship” or “nonsensuous similarity” as well as on the video work “Swarm” made by The McGloughlin Brothers in collaboration with Max Cooper. Understanding the way of thinking in art making and appreciation contributes to answering the question of what art is, and therefore, it leads to inquiry into art education.departmental bulletin pape
Research Note on Place from the Coordinator’s Perspective
application/pdfThis research note examines the concept of “place” from the perspective of the coordinator, who is the key to the establishment of a community of practice. I attempted to conceptualize the “place” designed by the coordinator of the community of practice. As a result, it was found that the “place” exists like a rug mat spread out in a place, and the coordinator holds the “place” while accessing the subject.
I showed that a place is not just a geographic location or landscape, but also that everything is a place that should exist for a place, whether it is immersive, existent or digital space, whether it has acquired a place-ness through people’s experiences and intentions or is highly immersive.departmental bulletin pape
