Art Education Practice for Severely Mentally and Physically Handicapped Children in an In-Hospital Classroom - Ex-post facto reflection by practitioners
application/pdfThis study is about plastic arts activities for children with severe illnesses and disabilities who live and study in hospitals. The artistic activities of children with severe disabilities need a lot of support from teachers. Therefore, looking only at the actions, it seems that the percentage of children involved is small. However, the relationship with teachers may be deeply involved in the art-making activities of children with special needs and children with severe illnesses and disabilities. In this study, the author will reflect on the art education practice in an in-hospital classroom from the viewpoint of an educational practitioner after the fact. It then examines what is happening in the art-making activities of children with special needs and children with severe illnesses and disabilities that are difficult to understand from their actions.departmental bulletin pape

Survey of "Trowel Paintings" at the former Kina Saffron Shu Brewery
application/pdfMr. Seitaro Takada, president of Mirai Hakko Honpo K.K., and Mr. Juntaro Tsuru, chairman of the Citizens' Association for the Preservation of the Kina Saffron Shu Brewery, requested a report on the damage to the trowel paintings and a survey of restoration methods for the former Kina Saffron Shu Brewery(a nationally registered tangible cultural property built in 1926), owned by Nagaoka City. Therefore, we conducted a survey of the "trowel paintings" at the former Kina Saffron Shu Brewery.
As a result of our research, we determined that it is best to maintain the trowel paintings as much as possible in their current state based on their age and to halt their deterioration, and we proposed the content of our search for a method to achieve this goal. We informed the client that the cooperation of Mr. Maekawa of the National Research Institute for Cultural Properties, Tokyo in researching the conservation and restoration of trowel paintings was a prerequisite for the implementation of this proposal. We would like to continue to conduct practical research to test the hypotheses presented here.departmental bulletin pape

The Significance of Animism in Haiku Poetry: from Matsuo Basho to Natsuishi Banʼya
application/pdfHere we discussed the significance of animism in haiku poetry. We focused the “monistic animism” suggested by Nakazawa Shinʼichi, which states that animism can capture the invisible realm that the modern Western culture have failed to think about. We argue that haiku poems aim to become “the thing itself,” thereby creating poetic language to open the “communication” to something fundamental beyond human perception. From this perspective we read animistic haiku poetry by various poets, arguing that animist haiku culminated in Natsuishi Banʼyaʼs Science of Giant Rocks and Trees.departmental bulletin pape
