Development of a wearable data logger

    Get PDF
application/pdfThe miniaturization of sensors and microcontrollers, as well as the reduction of power consumption, have made it easier to build systems. However, it is still unclear what kind of devices can actually be used to realize a system, and to what extent they can be miniaturized. In this research, we aim to build a system that can be used with entry-level development environment such as Arduino. The sensor used in this paper is a thermometer, which is convenient for health management. However, this system can acquire and visualize a variety of information by changing the sensor.departmental bulletin pape

Research on conforming to current regulations for continuing to utilize historic buildings Focused on relocated historic buildings

    Get PDF
application/pdfThe “conservation” of historic buildings is not “just watching over and doing nothing=neglecting”, but actively modifying and “inheriting” with an eye on the future. However, “relocation” is “new construction using demolition materials”. In the future, in order to provide a wider and more people with a space that reproduces the atmosphere of the past, it is necessary to organize information including similar cases and situations that are becoming more common these days. The purpose of this study is to sort out the conditions for continuing to use historic buildings without losing their underlying value.departmental bulletin pape

A Study on the Meaning of Portraits of the Deceased

    Get PDF
application/pdfWhat is the meaning of the portraits and photographs of the deceased? This paper tries to go deeper into the question of what is the act of “making images of dead people” by understanding, on the one hand, the background in which photographs of the deceased were usually used in Japan and, on the other hand, by analyzing the role played by those portraits of the deceased.departmental bulletin pape

Prehistory and 21 years footprint of NPO Machidukuri School ~Achievements and issues of an intermediate support organization for Machidukuri led by volunteers from Niigata Prefecture~

    Get PDF
application/pdfThis paper aims to clarify the roles and characteristics of NPO Machidukuri School. Despite of less awareness of Nozawaʼs paper “A Study on the Effect of Machidukuri Learning for Citizens ‒Through the questionnaire survey for the Machidukuri Learning Seminars for Citizens‒”, Machidukuri School has exercised the Machidukuri Learning Seminars for Citizens for 26 years continuously. In this paper the author analyzed the transition of the seminar and role of intermediate support organization supported by this NPO.departmental bulletin pape

    Development of network-connected CO2 monitor

    Get PDF
application/pdfVentilation of the room is important as a countermeasure against new corona infection. In classrooms where many people gather, carbon dioxide concentration can be used as a guide for ventilation. Carbon dioxide monitoring devices are now on the market as a countermeasure against infection. In this study, we will build a system that can monitor the carbon dioxide concentration in multiple classrooms. Information is displayed by a simple mechanism using a web browser to visualize the data. This study showed that such a system can be realized and operated if simple technology can be used.departmental bulletin pape

Preliminary research for the evaluation of improvement in piano performance by a cost-effective EEG device: Effects of keyboard difference and playing sound on EEG and reaction times

    Get PDF
application/pdfWe conducted preliminary electroencephalography (EEG) experiments in which five musical notes were presented and which required participants to press the corresponding keys on a MIDI-keyboard or PC-keyboard with or without immediate piano sound feedback. Participants performed the same experiment over multiple days. Results showed that reaction time was improved during the first few experiments. We also found that event-related potential(ERP) waveforms on the F8 channel differed depending on the type of keyboard used. In addition, increases in theta power were observed during piano playing, irrespective of the keyboard type used or the presence of feedback.departmental bulletin pape

Study on the sketch of festival scenery in front of the shrine by J. Conder

    Get PDF
application/pdfThis article considers the sketches of the festival scenery in front of the shrine, contained in the third volume of Conderʼs sketchbook. The following points will be clarified. The sketch of the festival scenery in front of the shrine in Conderʼs sketchbook depicts the front of the Nishi-romon of Yasaka Shrine in Kyoto. The sketch can be judged to be a depiction the Shinko-sai in the Gion Matsuri. Conder visited Kyoto at least twice, around July 1884 and around March 1895. Considering the timing, this sketch can be thought of as depicting the scenery of the Shinko-sai held on July 17, 1884.departmental bulletin pape

Sculpting as “To become ripe with time” and “To open the place”

    Get PDF
application/pdfSculpting does not mean that the creator presses what they have in mind against the material to create it as a work. From this point of view, this paper focuses on the thinking of creators who repeat new discoveries through interaction with materials, and considers the word “To become ripe with time” as a clue. The creator tries to put himself in a passive position by thinking as if the material has an active function. And by confronting the material, creators open the place that is neither fiction nor nonfiction, and by projecting themselves in that place, they enable a pure encounter with things. Materials have no active work, but by thinking that they have an active work, the creator is inspired by things, gains a new perspective, and develops the artwork.departmental bulletin pape

Practical research on renovation and town management driven by design and art activities Part 3

    Get PDF
application/pdfIn order to maintain urban management in the face of rapid population decline, it is necessary to promote the creation of a compact city in Nagaoka by consolidating functions in the central city area and the central part of the merged area. However, in the current state of the central urban area, utilization of idle real estate(low unused space) described above is not progressing. For this reason, the practice of renovation and town management is also desired in Nagaoka. In renovation and town management, activities related to design and art are one of the essential contents for utilizing idle real estate. Therefore, we will create a team of faculty members across departments and attempt to develop renovation and town management that is driven by design and art activities in the central urban area of Nagaoka.departmental bulletin pape
