Danas u Strumici nema Jevreja. The Jews who fled Strumica during World War I and who found refuge in Skopje, leaving behind their homes, synagogue, school, and cemetery, begged the government to determine the value of at least part of their property that had passed into state hands, and to pay the equivalent value to the Skopje Jewish community, which had accepted and helped them. Today, there are no Jews in Strumica. Almuzlino family: from the 13th to the 20th century

I carried the desire to find out my "SHORESH" for many years, until the moment when I subordinated the narrations, which I listened to in the family, to documents and facts. I found the first information about the Almuzlino family in the Spanish archives, where some members of this family are mentioned in the city of Haka (Jaca) in Aragon in 1226. Following through documents their life in Spain as well as persecution from that country, coming in the Ottoman Empire, in Thessaloniki as a new homeland, and the departure of one member of that family in Belgrade in 1666, when the surname Almuzlino was first mentioned in this city, this book was slowly being written in. Today in Belgrade no one person bears the surname ALMUZLINO even though there are still living descendants. While writing, I tried to collect as much data as possible, which was available to the extent that our country, in the turbulent and frequent wars devastated Balkans, managed to preserve. At that moment, two families, Almuzlino and Albahari, coupled together with their wedding, so in addition to my main topic, the Almuzlino family, I felt obliged to write something about the other.

Holocaust - a unique historical phenomenon

Sledi uvođenje teme Holokausta u nastavu, u redovan sistem obrazovanja. Šesta faza je priprema i obezbeđenje jevrejske zajednice i pojedinaca restitucijom dobara izgubljenih u Drugom svetskom ratu. The poor value system in modern society encourages interpretations that deny the Holocaust and its uniqueness. There are ways in which one should take a stand on the ethically correct approach to interpreting the Holocaust. The first is an acknowledgement of the participation of the local population in the Holocaust process and an apology for those crimes. The next step is to commemorate the victims. After that action, there is a prosecution of the perpetrators. The fourth phase is extensive documentation of the crime. What follows is the introduction of the Holocaust theme into teaching, into the regular education system. The sixth phase is the preparation and provision of the Jewish community and individuals with the restitution of goods lost in the Second World War

    Elek's factory: 110th anniversary

    Get PDF
Ovo je priča o "Elekovoj fabrici".Viktor Elek, a Czech-Jewish expert in sugar beet growing and processing, came to Veliki Bečkerek (Nagybecskerek) in 1911, invited by the founder of the Sugar factory to join a team of experts gathered around the new factory under construction. Thanks to his diligent professional efforts Elek quickly became a director and synonymous with the Sugar factory, which citizens of Veliki Bečkerek soon started calling Elek’s factory. Elek was first appointed head of the organizational and commercial service of the Sugar factory in Veliki Bečkerek, but soon afterwards, in 1914, he became an assistant manager, and in 1915 he took over management of the factory, which he ran until he died in 1941. During three decades spent in Veliki Bečkerek, Elek had completely integrated himself into a local Jewish community, actively participating in public life. The citizens of Veliki Bečkerek remember him as a great patron of sport and culture. This is the story about "Elek’s factory ".Uporedo srp. tekst i engl. prevod, tekst štampan dvostubačno.Projekat Elekova fabrika je finansirao (the project Eleks factory’ was financed by) Pokrajinski sekretarijat za kulturu, javno informisanje i odnose s verskim zajednicama

Jews in Osijek from the early settlement until the end of the World War I: (contributions for the study of the history of the city of Osijek)

In Osijek, the first news of the Jews, the prisoners and the merchants came towards the end of the 17th century, immediately after Osijek and Slavonia had been broken free of the Ottoman Turks. From the beginning of the 18th century until 1783, when the patent Systematica Gentis Judaicae Regulatio was issued by Joseph II, the king of Hungary and Croatia, Jews were mentioned only as “passing traders” or they were in service of the Austrian army. This was the consequence of numerous laws forbidding them to sell in the Kingdom of Hungary and in the Kingdom of Croatia-Slavonia. In that period, Jews would come to the town on the Drava River only to trade at fairs for several days. Even though they were not allowed to sele, two Jewish Hirshl families with 11 members were recorded in Osijek from 1746 till 1752, after being given permission by Queen Maria Theresa. The circumstances regarding the settlement of Jews changed when the patent Gens Judaica was issued which enabled the permanent residence of Jews in Osijek and their immigration has been recorded ever since then. Although in 1783 just few Jewish families lived in Osijek (one or two), their number increased from 1831 when 8 families with 43 members were recorded. Ten years afterwards, a large-scale settlement started: first from the nearby counties of Slavonia and Syrmia and later from the Hungarian bordering counties in the south (especially from Baranya). This wave of immigration of Jews, mostly of Ashkenazi descent and with German surnames, resulted in the application of paragraph 29/1840 (De Israelitis) passed in the Hungarian Parliament. It provided, in addition to numerous privileges (e.g. building factories, practising trades and crafts, buying real estate etc.), a residence permit in free and royal towns and consequently in Osijek, too. This was confirmed by the precise census from 1846 which recorded 33 Jewish families with 175 family members.Izmjenjeno izdanje.Sadrži i "Osječki židovski biografski leksikon" (also contains the "Jewish Biographical Lexicon of Osijek").E- knjiga dostupna i na [https://www.zo-osijek.hr/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Zidovi-u-Osijeku-Ljiljana-Dobrovsak.pdf]

Like other regulations of the Jewish faith - Jewish holidays are divided into those from the Torah and rabbinic ones. 'Those from the Torah' are holidays whose celebration is ordered by a positive Torah commandment, i.e. an order, and the violation of which is forbidden by a negative Torah commandment, i.e. a ban. Except for the regular weekly holiday of Shabbat (Shabbat), the 'Holidays of the Torah' are also three pilgrimage holidays, which in Hebrew are called hag, hagim. That's Pesach, then Shavuot and Sukkot. Other holidays commanded by the Torah are Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. Purim is a 'rabbinical holiday'. In order to understand the status of Purim in Jewish law, it is necessary to know that in biblical times the members of the Sanhedrin (supreme Jewish court) were also called soferim ("writers") - that is why rabbinical holidays, such as Purim, are called - a commandment that comes from the words of writers. Jewish law singles out the holiday of Purim among other holidays of rabbinic origin as eternal - and in terms of permanence, it gives the Book of Esther the status of the Written Torah and the precepts of the Oral Torah - which, being of divine origin, are unchangeable and inalienable. The name of the holiday of Purim (lots), in the Megillah itself (Esther 9:24,26) is connected with Haman's laconic casting of lots in order to determine the day on which all the Jews should be executed...

As part of the conference "The Voice of Woman in Frozen Silence", the exhibition "Spots of Light - To Be a Woman in the Holocaust" with a pedagogical guide for teachers was presented for the first time. The exhibition was organized in Serbian by Terraforming. The exhibition is prepared in a special "ready2print format" - this way, schools, libraries, archives, museums, and other institutions in the Republic of Serbia will be able to download the exhibition free of charge, print, and exhibit it in their communities. The exhibition, as well as pedagogical instructions for teachers, are available on the Terraforming website. "Spots of Light" is a unique exhibition in many ways. The exhibition, so as an appropriate pedagogical guide, was developed by Yad Vashem Traveling Exhibition Department in order to present Jewish women’s experiences in different parts of their life, their suffering and surviving during the Holocaust, in a unique way. Through 30 panels, "Spots of Light" start from a different and underused perspective in Holocaust teaching - a gender perspective. "Spots of Light" are showing us that is impossible to gain a complete understanding of the Holocaust as one of the most horrific crimes in the history of humanity without insight into the specific and uniqueness of women’s experiences. Prezentacija je deponovana u JDB pod nazivom "Spots of light - To Be a Woman in the Holocaust".Through a video link from Jerusalem, on the occasion of the first presentation of this exhibition in Serbia on January 26, 2021, in the Cultural Center of Novi Sad, Cheryl Ohion held a special presentation about the exhibition.
