Almanacs and bibliographies or: about reminding that we are walking in the footsteps of previous generations [Book review: Biljana Albahari, Vesna Trijić, Bibliography of the Jewish Almanac, Belgrade, 2023]
The "Bibliography of the Jewish Almanac" shows that this book has become an inevitable source for future research into Jewish life in the 20th century. The great effort and knowledge invested by the authors will breathe new life into this valuable magazine, but, and this is no less important, it will also help us to remember that we, as humans, are part of a continuation that began before us and that will not end with us

A Few More Days: Budapest Diary 1944
I evo, sada ga objavljuju. Tvoj sin Darko (Fišer)...“"Dear father, isn't it strange that I am writing to You 75 years after Your death?" Isn't it strange that I write to You, and You will read this letter only in my imagination? The motivation for which I am writing to you is also unusual. But I will write to You as if You will read this letter. I will write to You about what I think could interest You. I will also ask you how, if you could be present at the events I will describe, you would react to them, whether they would make you happy or sad. The impetus for this letter came from some people from Osijek who, looking for information about Kamil Firinger, your colleague, a lawyer from Osijek and the man who saved us by illegally transferring us to Hungary in April 1943, came to me, your son. I gave them a copy of your war diary from the unfortunate war year 1944. Your diary, a small part of what you wrote in your loneliness and uncertainty of the horrors of war during that terrible time of war and the Holocaust, that small part of your thoughts and memories was miraculously preserved. Our mother found it hidden in an armchair. For a long time, that text remained in the manuscript in a strictly guarded family frame. On my initiative, your granddaughter, Lela's daughter, retyped it. And here, they publish it now. I don't know how happy you, our mom and Lela would be because of that. But of all of us, I am the only one still alive, and I have taken responsibility for your diary to be published. Your son Darko (Fisher)..."Biblioteka svagdan (9. knjiga)
What can be learnt about the Jews from Ludbreg based on a document of the religious municipality from 1937?
This paper contains statistical data on the Jewish community in a town along the Bednja River for the previous year, 1936. The information requested by the central body of the Jewish minority in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia - the Union of Jewish religious municipalities, was thoroughly collected, properly processed, and promptly sent to the claimants by the management of the Jewish Religious Municipality of Ludbreg. The data that were of particular interest to the Union refer to the general situation in Jewish municipalities in relation to demographics, changes and movements within the membership, municipal institutions, the religious life of their members, as well as their education, professional orientation, and the state of the municipal budget. The document is in the possession of the author and belongs to a set of identical items from other Jewish religious municipalities of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. All of them were created on the same occasion and ended up at the address of the Union, where they were further processed and used in current and future activities. The documents are actually forms with questions written on a typewriter and contain empty spaces left there for the answers, which are to be written inn the Serbo-Croatian language and Latin script. In total, there are fourteen questions distributed on both sides of the document, which contains only one sheet. In addition to the stamp of the recipient, there is also a signature of an authorised person which is located before the sender’s name, who, thereby, guaranteed the authenticity of the data provided.Preuzeto s (downloaded from): [https://hrcak.srce.hr/295306].Rad je 2022. godine učestvovao na 66. nagradnom konkursu Saveza jevrejskih opština Srbije (In 2022, the text participated in the 66th prize competition of the Federation of Jewish communities of Serbia)
Jews in Dojran
Dojran je izgrađen u stilu carigradske i solunske arhitekture. Imao je kaldrmisane ulice, čistu vodu za piće koja se hvatala iz izvora iznad grada i dovodila do nekoliko gradskih fontana kroz kanale sa keramičkim cevima, gradsko kupatilo - hamam koji je služio svim stanovnicima, muškarcima i ženama, hrišćanima i muslimanima, tri crkve i tri džamije, nekoliko škola (nekoliko osnovnih i jedna srednja škola) i zajedničku sat-kulu. Putne isprave Jevreja
The Archives of Vojvodina keeps a valuable collection of civil personal documents from the period 1743-1923. Part of this collection are journeyman journals and pouch journals of Jews from the area of present-day Vojvodina. Journeyman journals were introduced in the Habsburg Monarchy in 1816, primarily as a measure of protection and control of journeymen during their obligatory three-year wandering travels. After completing his painstaking apprenticeship, which usually lasted from three to five, even seven years, it was considered that the boy was taught the basics of the craft. Then he became “free”, that is, he could go on a journey to big craft centres to expand his knowledge and gain practice.
Degenerate art: they had four years
Publici su predstvaljeni radovi Maksa Ernsta, Oskara Kokoške, Georga Grosa, Ota Diksa, Emila Noldea, Ernsta Kirhnera, Eriha Hekela, Karla Brendela, Marka Šagala, Jankela Adlera, Pita Mondrijana i mnogih drugih. When Hitler was appointed Chancellor of Germany m 1933, many people did not realize the change that was underway, not only for the Jewish community but for the entire Western world. Degenerate art is a term constructed by the National Social Party in the 1930s in Germany. Term degenerate assumes a loss of physical, mental and moral qualities considered normal and desirable. The subject of this text is modern art, which during Nazi Germany was placed in the focus of Hitler’s propaganda, that is, anti-propaganda. Modern art becomes a target of the Nazis, it is torn out of context, and the epithet „modern” is replaced by the epithet „degenerate”. In this way, modern art is mapped in the order of the Third Reich as something forbidden, perverted, and twisted. In July 1937, the Nazi Party organized two spectacular exhibitions in Munich. One was the „Great Exhibition of German Art” (Grosse Deutsche Kunstausstellung), which aimed to present the leading examples of “Aryan” art, which is reflected in the themes mentioned above. The second was the exhibition „Degenerate Art” (Entartete Kunst). A year later, it was the turn of the music. The focus of the work is the Degenerate Art exhibition, which opened in July l937 in Munich. The audience had the opportunity to see the art of Max Ernst, Oskar Kokoschka, Georg Cross, Otto Dix, Emil Nolde, Ernst Kirchner, Erich Haeckel, Karl Brendel, Marc Chagall and many others. The goal of the text is to indicate the position and status of the artist, as well as to map art in political, social and theological discourse
Rock’n’roll and Holocaust
On, međutim, ipak mora „započeti” i pokušati da, u nekom jeziku i diskursu, kaže nešto o ideologijama, Holokaustu i rock’n’roll-u: Belsen was a Gas Sex Pistols-a, Puppets Lenarda Koena, No Love Lost Joy Division-a.“Rock’n’roll and Holocaust” represents, on one hand, a text in which everything has already happened and, on the other, a text in which everything is yet to happen because we, if we are to believe Jameson, live in the absence of any true presence. Moreover, this paper has a Focauldian desire to liberate itself from the obligation of commencing. It, however, has to “commence” and, with some language and discourse, attempt to say something about ideologies, Holocaust and rock-n-roll: Sex Pistols’ Belsen was a Gas, Leonard Cohen’s Puppets, Joy Division's No Love Lost.Istraživanje sprovedeno u radu finansiralo je Ministarstvo prosvete, nauke i tehnološkog razvoja Republike Srbije (Ugovor o realizaciji i finansiranju naučnoistraživačkog rada NIO u 2022. godini broj 451 -03-68/2022 14/ 200198)
Two petitions: we are not giving up Jews - our neighbours
The status of Jews in countries with the largest Serbia population, during the 19th and 201h centuries was under the influence of various tendencies: from commitment to equality to anti-Jewish outbursts and antisemitic crimes. The effort was directed towards the life of Jews in Kragujevac during the 19th century, all up to World War II, which characterizes a significant level of their cultural assimilation and social integration. Described is their influence on the economic, cultural and health development of Kragujevac, as is publicly displayed respect and recognition with which Kragujevac’s inhabitants of Serbia origin reciprocated. The core of die effort is petitioning for two Jews to stay in Kragujevac (one is from the 19th century, the other from the first half of the 20th century), with the fact that the cause of the first petition is problematized and analyzed in the light of newer historical sources. We also used scientific and specialized literature, and archive sources, as were digitized Kragujevac newspapers from the 1930-1941 period. The sociocultural milieu of Kragujevac has preserved the marks testifying about the presence and everyday lives of Jewish people in this city, hence, the establishment of the future concept of collective memory and remembrance policy should be directed towards shaping the active forms of memorialization, both creative and empathetic ones
