Numerical simulation of the flow passing through the side weir-gate
A combination of a weir and a gate is called the combined weir-gate. The hydraulic behaviour of the combined side weir-gate was numerically and experimentally investigated in the study. The findings were evaluated to investigate the impact of combined flow and weir-gate geometry characteristics on the discharge capacity of the side weir-gate. Thirty-three numerical simulations were conducted. The numerical simulations were performed by applying the Volume of Fluid (VOF) method to the Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations using Flow-3D using k-epsilon turbulence model. The model was validated against experimental data previously obtained by the authors, and eighty-eight experiments were conducted to analyze using different models. The findings show that the models with rectangular weir and gate cross-sections have higher discharge capacity than those with triangular and semicircular gates, and the models with semicircular gates have higher discharge capacity than those with triangular gates. The Absolute Percentage Error (APE), Root Mean Square Error (RMSE), Scatter Index (SI) and Coefficient of Determination (R2) of the numerical and experimental results are 4.11 %, 0.30 % and 0.10 %, 0.99, respectively. Osman'ın şehadeti ile başlayan fitne olayları, İslam'da ilk mezhepleşmeye sebep olmuş ve bâtıl mezheplerin ortaya çıkmasına neden olmuştur. Ehl-i hadis âlimleri, bâtıl mezheplerin yarattığı hurafe düşüncelerle mücadele etmiş ve bunlara cevaben eserler yazmışlardır. Bu noktada alimler sünnete uygun olarak sahih iman şeklini ortaya koyacak eserler yazmışlardır. Bu türde yazılan eserlerden biri de Kitâbü's-Sünne'dir. Bu eserlerde müellifler, sünnete uygun olan doğru inanç sistemini anlatmaya çalışmış ve yanlış inanç şekillerini eleştirmişlerdir. Ebû Dâvûd, Kitâbü's-Sünne adlı eserinde itikadi anlayışını ortaya koymuş ve bâtıl mezheplerin görüşlerini eleştirmiştir.In the history of Islam, the sedition events that started with the martyrdom of Osman caused for the first sectarianization in the Islam and caused the emergence of superstitious sects. Scholars belonging to the Ahl al-Hadith struggled against the superstitious thoughts created by the superstitious sects and wrote works in response to them. At this point, scholars have written works to reveal the correct form of belief in accordance with the Sunnah. One of these types of works written is Kitabü's-Sünne. In these works, the authors revealed the correct belief system that complies with the Sunnah and criticized wrong forms of belief. Abu Dawud, in his work called Kitab al-Sunnah, revealed the sound belief and criticized the views of heretical sects
Exergetic analyses of air-fuel preheated cogeneration plants in food production
3rd International Conference on Research of Agricultural and Food Technologies, I-CRAFT 2023 -- 4 October 2023 through 6 October 2023 -- Adana -- 196444Lower emissions and better performances in food production also affect the cost, the environmental effects, and the quality of the products of the agriculture and food industry. The aim of this study is to investigate and to analyze the exergetic performance of the production of heat exergy and power, to reuse waste heat and to give optimum reaction and to adapt to changing demands of the food production process and agriculture. Because of those reasons, an air fuel preheated (recuperative) cogeneration plant is taken to analyze the exergetic performance and working conditions by using exergy analysis and 1st and 2nd laws of thermodynamics. Energy and exergy efficiencies, combustion chamber and gas-turbine outlet temperatures, electric-heat exergy rates, specific works, and total electric and heat energies and exergies are calculated by taking various environmental temperatures and various excess air coefficient. Effects of the environmental temperatures and the excess air coefficient on the exergetic performance of the recuperative cogeneration plants were calculated, obtained, and discussed. For the best exergetic performance and working conditions, some recommendations were done for agriculture and for the food production process. In that study, it is found that, the recuperative cogeneration plants can obtain and give the best solutions and can adapt to changing demands of heat and electric rates. Also, it was found that, lower ambient temperatures give better electric efficiency, but lower heat exergy and electric rates. However, higher excess air coefficient increases the performance of the recuperative (air fuel preheated) cogeneration plants. © The Authors, published by EDP Sciences
The effect of nurse-led motivational interviewing based on the trans-theoretical model on promoting physical activity in healthy older adults: A randomized controlled trial
AimThe aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of motivational interviewing based on the trans-theoretical model promoting physical activity in older adults.MethodsA randomized controlled trial study was conducted with 117 older adults (intervention group: 58, and control group: 59) between April and November 2019. The data were collected via a questionnaire, trans-theoretical model scales, the Physical Activity Scale for the Elderly, the Katz Activities of Daily Living scale and a pedometer. The 24-week intervention consisted of regular motivational interviewing. The control group received usual care at the family health centre.ResultsFollowing the intervention, the Intervention Group showed significant improvements Exercise Processes of Change Scale, Exercise Self-Efficacy Scale and Perceived Benefits of the Decisional Balance Scale for Exercise. There was a significant difference between the groups in terms of stages of change. In the Intervention Group, 81.5% were in the contemplation stage in the pre-test, while in the post-test, 70.4% had transitioned to the action stage. In contrast, in the control group, 62.5% were in the contemplation stage initially, but in the post-test, only 9.3% had reached the action stage. The mean number of step counts increased significantly in favour of the Intervention Group, as did the Physical Activity Scale for the Elderly total score.ConclusionThe trial indicated that after the trans-theoretical model-based motivational interviewing, the stages of change among the older adults improved, as did their exercise behaviours. It is recommended that the trans-theoretical model and motivational interviewing be used by nurses to improve healthy lifestyle stage behaviours in older adults. What is already known about this topic? Physical immobility ranks fourth among the leading risk factors for mortality globally. Older adults constitute the age group which leads the most sedentary life in society and is most affected by physical inactivity. In Turkey, one out of every two people undertakes insufficient physical activity, and this rate increases with advancing age.What this paper adds? Nurse-led motivational interviewing based on the trans-theoretical model was effective in increasing the physical activity levels of the older adults.The implications of this paper: It is recommended that the trans-theoretical model and motivational interviewing should be used by nurses to improve healthy lifestyle behaviours in older adults. It is recommended that studies be conducted to assess the effectiveness of interventions aimed at promoting physical activity in older adults via both qualitative and quantitative methods
Analyzing global competitiveness of Turkish air conditioning industry
The global economy significantly relies on the air conditioning sector, which has been gaining increased importance worldwide and in Türkiye due to the impact of global warming, climate change, and the diminishing energy resources. As a multifaceted industry encompassing air conditioning, heating, installation, insulation, refrigeration and ventilation sector has been adapting to the growing demand for environmentally friendly and energy-efficient solutions. This study analyzes air conditioning industry of Türkiye and its sub-product groups in terms of its ability to compete internationally, spanning from 2001 to 2021. To assess competitiveness, we employed various analytical tools, including Balassa's Revealed Comparative Advantages Index (RCA), Vollrath Indices (RXA, RMP, RTA, RC), Revealed Symmetric Comparative Advantages Index (RSCA), Trade Balance Index (TBI), and Product Mapping method. Notably, there is no research that scrutinize the competitiveness of the Turkish air conditioning industry utilizing the Product Mapping. The study findings emphasize that air conditioning industry of Türkiye has competitiveness. Within the sub-product group, the analysis reveals that Türkiye has competitiveness for 11 products, a near-limit competitiveness for 3 products, and a lack of competitiveness for 10 products. © Author(s) 2024
Investigating the Effectiveness of Augmented Reality Technology in Science Education in Terms of Environmental Literacy, Self-Regulation, and Motivation to Learn Science
Augmented Reality (AR) is a technology that provides users with an engaging learning experience by placing interactive virtual 3D models in natural environments. It is known that the use of AR technology in science education has many educational benefits. This study investigated the impact of AR technology on the development of environmental literacy, self-regulation skills, and motivation for science learning, which are increasingly important skills. Acquiring these high-level skills is essential for supporting students' development in preventing environmental problems, addressing the motivation decrease seen primarily due to distance learning, and acquiring the self-regulation skills that have gained importance due to distance learning. The study was conducted with a quasi-experimental design on fifth-grade students, with one experimental (34) and one control (36) group. The findings were analyzed through MANOVA and content analysis. The results showed that AR technology supports environmental sensitivity, positive behavior, and the development of environmental knowledge and skills. In addition, AR technology has significant contributions in terms of self-regulation. Finally, it is recommended to use AR technology in science education to develop these variables and positively affect participants' motivation for science learning
Dijitalleşen Realite Şovlara ve Gösteri Toplumuna Performatif Yaklaşım: RealiTuber ve RealiToker
Bu araştırma, televizyona özgü bir tabloid tür olduğu varsayılan realite şov yayıncılığının bağlamını geleneksel kitle ekranından, çağdaş kitlesel-öz ekranlara taşıyan yenilikçi bir değerlendirme çerçevesine odaklanır. Sinoptikondan omniptikona geçişle birlikte her an, her yerdeleşen gösteri performansları hem Debord’un hem de Goffman’ın performatif yaklaşımları çerçevesinde Realite Şovlara yeni bir kavramsal açıklama geliştirmenin imkanlarını barındırır. Realite Şovlar, artık yalnızca Survivor, Yemekteyiz, Master Chief, Kısmetse Olur, Yetenek Sizsiniz, O Ses Türkiye, Müge Anlı vs. programlarla sınırlı olmaksızın neredeyse YouTube ve TikTok’un tüm yayın performanslarına dağılmış durumdadır. Bu koşullar altında, çoğunluğun azınlığı izlediği sinoptik gözetimden herkesin herkesi (birbirini) izlediği omniptik bir şov (gösteri) performansına geçiş söz konusudur. Çünkü hem içeriğin üretimi hem de izleme deneyimi açısından farklılaşan bu performatif yapı, bir YouTuber ya da TikToker’ı seyreden milyonların ötesinde, günlük hikayeler (story) ve kısa videolarla birbirlerini gözetleyen milyonları kavramsallaştırmak için önemlidir. Bu yönüyle YouTuber ya da TikToker olarak kavramsallaştırmaya alışık olduğumuz sosyal medya göstericilerini, toplumsal misyonları paralelinde RealiTuber ve RealiToker olarak yeniden kavramsallaştırmak gerekecektir. Bu araştırma, YouTube ve TikTok sahnesinde gösterileşen toplumsal performansların klasik realite şov yaklaşımı çerçevesiyle kesişimlerini saptamaya çalışmakta ve aslında topyekun bir şovun yaşanmakta olduğuna dikkat çekmektedir. Bu nedenle çalışmanın temel amacı sosyal medyanın mikro-ünlü sistemi olan YouTuber ve TikToker gibi popüler içerik üreticileri ile birlikte, büyük ya da küçük bir seyirci (takipçi) kitlesine sahip olan tüm sıradan kullanıcıları da kavramsallaştırarak yeni bir kimlik tanımlaması geliştirmektir. Çünkü realite şovun üretimi olan tele-yaşamlar, yalnızca mikro-ünlülerin değil tüm sosyal medya kullanıcıların deneyimlediği bir gösteri formatı olarak biçimlenmektedi
Eugenol alleviates the negative effects of experimental periodontitis and regulates adipokine hormones in rats
A chronic microbial infection that is mediated by the host's immune system is the cause of periodontal disease. As the world's population grows, phytotherapy is a therapeutic strategy that makes use of a renewable resource that can provide less costly medicines. This study aimed to investigate the therapeutic effects of eugenol administration on periodontitis by examining the effects of eugenol at different doses biochemically, histopathologically, and radiologically in rats with experimental periodontitis. Thirty-two Sprague Dawley male rats were divided into four groups: 1. the healthy control group (CG), 2. The experimental periodontitis group (PG), 3. The experimental periodontitis+10 mg/kg eugenol group (EG10), and 4. the experimental periodontitis+20 mg/kg eugenol group (EG20). Alveolar bone loss was measured using micro-CT imaging. The TNF-alpha, IL-6, leptin, asprosin, and apelin levels were analyzed in the serum samples of rats. Histological and immunohistochemical analyses were performed. The data were analyzed statistically. The serum TNF-alpha, IL-6, leptin, asprosin, and apelin levels were found to be statistically significantly lower in the eugenol-applied groups (EG10 and EG20) than in the PG (p < 0.05). There was a statistically significant difference in the TNFa, IL-6, leptin, asprosin, and apelin levels between the EG10 and EG20 (p < 0.05). In the measurements made using micro-CT imaging, alveolar bone loss was found to be at the lowest FR1 level, and in histopathological analysis, the least inflammation was observed in the EG20. It was concluded that the application of 20 mg/kg eugenol in rats with experimental periodontitis was a safe dose, was beneficial in alleviating bone loss, and had a positive effect on the healing process. The Effect of STEM Education on the Pre-school Pre-service Teachers’ Lifelong Learning Tendencies
The research aims to explore the effect of STEM education on pre-service teachers' lifelong learning tendencies. 22 pre-service teachers studying in the 4th grade participated in the research. The research was carried out within the scope of the STEM education elective course given in the pre-school teaching department in the faculty of education. A methods approach was employed in the research. In the research, in which the explanatory mixed design was applied, the quantitative data were collected with the Lifelong Learning Tendency Scale. Qualitative data were obtained with a semi-structured interview form. At the end of the study, it was determined that STEM education had a positive effect on the pre-service teachers' lifelong learning tendencies and developed their lifelong learning skills. It was found, with STEM education, that producing machines, robots, and vehicles with simple materials contributed to their seeing the materials around them with different eyes and their desires to learn and produce new things. It was also stated that they contributed to self-directed learning, increased their willingness to explore and research, and activated their learning by doing and experiencing skills. It was concluded that they enjoyed doing the activities, which made the information permanent and created their desire to use these activities in their lessons in order to create fun and permanent learning environments in the future
MUTLULUK: ÖZ DÜZENLEME VE DEPRESYON İLİŞKİSİNDEKİ ARACI
Depresyon günümüzün en yaygın ruh sağlığı sorunudur ve gün geçtikçe yaygınlaşmaya devam etmektedir. Bu çalışmada öz düzenleme ve mutluluğun depresyon üzerindeki etkilerinin incelenmesi ve mutluluğun öz düzenlemenin depresyon üzerindeki etkisinde aracılık rolünün belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Bu amaca yönelik tabakalı örneklem yöntemiyle 316 lisans öğrencisine ulaşılmıştır. Veri toplama aracı olarak, Öz Düzenleme Ölçeği, Mutluluk Ölçeği ve Depresyon Ölçeği kullanılmıştır. Toplanan verilerin analizinde tanımlayıcı analizlerle birlikte normallik analizleri, Doğrulayıcı Faktör Analizi ve iç tutarlık analizleri yapıldı. Değişkenler arasındaki ilişkileri belirlemede AMOS 23 programı ile yol analizleri ve yapısal eşitlik analizi kullanıldı. Korelasyon bulguları, öz düzenleme ve mutluluk arasında pozitif, öz düzenleme ile depresyon arasıda negatif, mutluluk ile depresyon arasında negatif ilişkiler belirlemiştir. Regresyon bulguları, öz düzenlemenin mutluluğu pozitif yönde, depresyonu negatif yönde yordadığını, mutluluğun ise depresyonu negatif yönde yordadığını belirlemiştir. Aracılığa ilişkin bulgular, mutluluğun öz düzenleme ile depresyon arasında tam aracı olduğunu, bir diğer deyişle öz düzenlemenin depresyonu mutluluk üzerinden düşürdüğünü ortaya koymaktadır
