    Afghans ante portas: Looking at immigrants in Turkiye through google's peephole

    Bauman"s approach, conceptualised as "strangers at out door/ante portas", requires a relationship that requires us to look at immigrants from inside the door. This study focuses on how Afghans, who are collectively expected to be hated as the new "dangerous" strangers, appear in Turkiye. The images pro-vided by Google searches become a suffcient "peephole" through which to collectively see and imagine Afghans. This is because the "peephole" metaphor encompasses a symbolic context in which the fear of the "strangers at out door (ante portas)", the desire to see/observe them, and the parallax effect can be symbolically represented at a common root. In the study, by typing "Afghans" and "Afghan Migrants" in Turkish into the Google search bar, the visual (photographic) search results are used to establish relationships with alienation and otherness in the visual representation of Afghan identity. © 2024 by IGI Global.     Barriers to physical activity in individuals with autism spectrum disorders after the 2023 Kahramanmaras Earthquakes in Turkiye

    The individual, environmental and systemic physical activity (PA) barriers experienced by individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in daily life may become more complex after a devastating disaster such as an earthquake. In order to effectively combat the high level of inactivity that may occur after an earthquake in individuals with ASD, PA barriers must be determined before the earthquake. However, no description is provided in the literature regarding the PA barriers experienced by individuals with ASD after the earthquake. The purpose of this phenomenological study is to examine parents' experiences regarding PA barriers experienced by individuals with ASD after the 2023 Kahramanmara & scedil; earthquakes in T & uuml;rkiye. Fifteen parents of individuals aged 8 and 31 with ASD were interviewed. The interviews were analyzed using both inductive and deductive content analysis approach. Three overarching themes were found: (1) the effects of PA on individuals with ASD, (2) post-earthquake PA barriers, and (3) the consequences of lack of PA in individuals with ASD. The results revealed that parents were aware of the benefits of PA and directed their children with ASD to PA before the earthquake. However, after the earthquake, parents encountered PA barriers that they had to overcome, and this negatively affected the children with ASD

    Lisansüstü Eğitim Enstitüsü, Temel İslam Bilimleri Ana Bilim Dalı, Temel İslam Bilimleri Bilim DalıSüyûtî'nin kaleme aldığı ed-Dürrü'l-mensûr, rivayet tefsirleri arasında önemli bir yere sahiptir. İçinde yer alan hadisler muhteva açısından rivayet tefsirleri arasında en hacimli kaynaklar arasındadır. Süyûtî bu eseri hazırlarken ayetlerle alakalı hadisleri senetsiz bir şekilde eserine kaydetmiştir. Bu durumda hadislerin sıhhatinin tespitini zorlaştırmıştır. Eserin hadis ilmi açısından kıymetini ortaya koymak ve hadislerin sıhhatini tespit etmek amacıyla bu araştırmanın yapılması büyük önem arz etmiştir. Bu sebeple ed-Dürrü'l-mensûr adlı tefsirin Enfâl sûresi bölümünde geçen Bedir Savaşı ile ilgili merfû hadisler üzerinde çalışma yapılmıştır. Öncelikle, Süyûtî'nin hayatı ve eserleri hakkında bilgi verilmiştir. Daha sonra, Enfâl sûresinde yer alan hadislerin tahrîcini yapmak amacıyla kaynak taraması yapılmış ve hadislerin ilk geçtiği kaynağa ulaşılmaya çalışılmıştır. Hadislerin güvenirliliğini tespit amacıyla rical çalışmalarına başvurulmuştur. Ayrıca hadis âlimlerinin, incelemesi yapılan hadisler hakkındaki görüşlerine yer verilmiştir. Araştırma sonunda incelenen hadislerin genel bir değerlendirmesi yapılmış, değerlendirmeler tablolar halinde sunulmuş ve sonuçları ortaya konulmuştur.al-Durr al-manthur, written by Suyuti, has an important place among the narration tafsirs. The hadiths in it are the most voluminous sources among the narrative tafsirs in terms of content. While preparing this work, Suyuti narrated the hadiths related to the verses without any evidence, without subjecting them to any examination. In this case, it made it difficult to determine the authenticity of the hadiths. It is of great importance to conduct this research in order to reveal the value of the work in terms of hadith science and to determine the authenticity of the hadiths. For this reason, in the tafsir called al-Durr al-manthur, studies were carried out on the hadiths mentioned in the surat Anfal First of all, information is given about Suyuti's life and works. Then, a source scan was carried out in order to examine the hadiths in Suurat Anfal and an attempt was made to reach the source where the hadiths were first mentioned. Research has been conducted on rijal studies in order to determine the reliability of hadiths. Additionally, the opinions of hadith alims about the examined hadiths are included. At the end of our study, a general evaluation of the examined hadiths was made, the evaluations were presented in tables and the results were revealed

    Lisansüstü Eğitim Enstitüsü, Beden Eğitimi ve Spor Ana Bilim DalıBu araştırma, spor bilimleri fakültesi öğrencilerinin beslenme bilgi düzeyleri, beslenme-egzersiz davranışları ve benlik saygıları arasındaki ilişkilerin incelenmesi amacıyla yapılmıştır. Bu bağlamda nicel olarak yürütülen çalışmanın amacıyla tutarlı olarak ilişkisel tarama modeli kullanılmıştır. Araştırma grubu, 150 kadın ve 255 erkek olmak üzere toplam 405 spor bilimleri fakültesi öğrencisinden oluşmaktadır. Bu araştırma grubunun seçiminde kolayda örnekleme yönteminden faydalanılmıştır. Veri toplama aracı olarak anket formu kullanılmış olup bu form dört bölümden oluşmaktadır. Bu anket formunun birinci bölümünü "Kişisel Bilgi Formu", ikinci bölümünü "Yetişkinler İçin Beslenme Bilgi Düzeyi Ölçeği", üçüncü bölümünü "Beslenme-Egzersiz Davranışları Ölçeği" ve dördüncü bölümünü "İki Boyutlu Benlik Saygısı Ölçeği" oluşturmaktadır. Bu form aracılığıyla elde edilen ham verilerin ilk olarak veri türü gözetilerek tanımlayıcı istatistikleri hesaplanmıştır. Araştırmada elde edilen verilere ilişkin farklılık ve korelasyon analizleri yapılmıştır. Buna göre cinsiyet ve bölüm değişkeni bağlamında katılımcıların beslenme bilgi düzeylerinde, beslenme-egzersiz davranışlarında ve benlik saygılarında anlamlı bir farklılık tespit edilmemiştir. Sınıf değişkene göre katılımcıların beslenme bilgi düzeylerinde anlamlı farklılıklar bulunmuştur ancak beslenme-egzersiz davranışları ve benlik saygılarında anlamlı bir farklılık tespit edilmemiştir. Aktif olarak spor yapma değişkeni bağlamında katılımcıların beslenme-egzersiz davranışlarında anlamlı farklılıklar bulunmuştur; fakat beslenme bilgi düzeyleri ve benlik saygılarında anlamlı bir farklılık tespit edilmemiştir. Katılımcıların yaş, BKİ ve aylık kişisel gelir değişkenleri ile katılımcıların beslenme bilgi düzeyleri, beslenme-egzersiz davranışları ve benlik saygıları arasında anlamlı bir ilişki tespit edilmemiştir. Aylık aile geliri (kişisel gelir dahil) değişkenine göre katılımcıların öz yeterlikleri arasında anlamlı ilişkiler bulunmuştur; ancak beslenme bilgi düzeyleri, beslenme-egzersiz davranışları ve kendini sevme düzeyleri arasında anlamlı bir ilişki tespit edilmemiştir. Katılımcıların beslenme bilgi düzeyleri ile beslenme egzersiz davranışları arasında anlamlı bir ilişki tespit edilmemiştir. Fakat katılımcıların beslenme bilgi düzeyleri ile benlik saygıları arasında anlamlı ilişkiler bulunmuştur. Ayrıca katılımcıların beslenme-egzersiz davranışları ile benlik saygıları arasında da anlamlı ilişkiler bulunmuştur. Bu doğrultuda katılımcıların beslenme bilgi düzeyleri yükseldikçe ve beslenme-egzersiz davranışları iyileştikçe benlik saygılarının da yükseldiği ileri sürülebilmektedir. Anahtar Kelimeler: Sağlık, beslenme, egzersiz, benlik saygısı, spor bilimleri, öğrenci.This research was conducted to examine the relationships between nutrition knowledge levels, nutrition-exercise behaviors and self-esteem of faculty of fports sciences students. In this context, the relational screening model was used, consistent with the purpose of the quantitative study. The research group consists of a total of 405 faculty of sports sciences students, 150 women and 255 men. Convenience sampling method was used in the selection of this research group. A survey form was used as a data collection tool and this form consists of four parts. The first part of this survey form consists of "Personal Information Form", the second part is "Nutrition Knowledge Level Scale for Adults", the third part is "Nutrition-Exercise Behavior Scale" and the fourth part is "Two-Dimensional Self-Esteem Scale". First, descriptive statistics of the raw data obtained through this form were calculated, taking into account the data type. Difference and correlation analyzes were conducted on the data obtained in the study. Accordingly, no significant difference was detected in the participants' nutritional knowledge levels, nutrition-exercise behaviors and self-esteem in the context of gender and department variables. Significant differences were found in the nutrition knowledge levels of the participants according to the class variable, but no significant differences were detected in their nutrition-exercise behaviors and self-esteem. Significant differences were found in the nutrition-exercise behaviors of the participants in the context of the active sports variable; However, no significant difference was detected in nutrition knowledge levels and self-esteem. No significant relationship was detected between the participants' age, BMI and monthly personal income variables and the participants' nutritional knowledge levels, nutrition-exercise behaviors and self-esteem. Significant relationships were found between participants' self-efficacy according to the variable monthly family income (including personal income); however, no significant relationship was found between nutritional knowledge levels, nutrition-exercise behaviors and self-love levels. No significant relationship was detected between the participants' nutritional knowledge levels and nutrition-exercise behaviors. However, significant relationships were found between the participants' nutritional knowledge levels and their self-esteem. Additionally, significant relationships were found between the participants' nutrition-exercise behaviors and self-esteem. In this regard, it can be claimed that as the participants' nutritional knowledge levels increase and their nutrition-exercise behaviors improve, their self-esteem also increases.     Investigating the Effect of Polypropylene Fiber on Mechanical Features of a Geopolymer-Stabilized Silty Soil

    This study investigates the stabilization of silty soil using alkali-activated fly ash and fibers with lengths of 3 mm and 12 mm. The study examines the effects of hybrid fiber length, fiber content, fly ash content, and activator content on the mechanical properties of the geopolymerstabilized samples. The objectives of this paper are 1) to examine the effect of activator content and fly ash content on the UCS, Al/Si ratio, and SiO2/Na2O ratio of the stabilized samples using a statistical approach, 2) to investigate the effect of hybrid fiber length on UCS, secant modulus, flexural strength, toughness, and flexural load-deformation characteristics of the stabilized soil. A statistical approach was employed to investigate the relationship between fly ash content, alkali activator content, and UCS value. Optimal fly ash content and alkali activator content were determined based on the statistical model. The geopolymer structure of the stabilized soil was characterized via SEM, EDS, XRD, and FTIR analyses. The effects of fly ash and alkali activator content on UCS, Al/Si ratio, and SiO2/Na2O ratio were determined using the derived statistical model. The study demonstrated that activator content, a critical factor in compaction, significantly influences the UCS value, as much as the effect of the Si/Al and SiO2/Na2O ratios. Additionally, variations in fly ash content led to an increase in the UCS value of up to 15%. Moreover, changing the activator content resulted in a maximum 12-fold increase in UCS value. Incorporating hybrid fibers for stabilization led to higher secant modulus (up to 30%), flexural strength (up to 6%), and ductility without compromising UCS

    Physicochemical and structural characterisation of a branched dextran type exopolysaccharide (EPS) from Weissella confusa S6 isolated from fermented sausage (Sucuk)

    Exopolysaccharide (EPS) producing Lactic Acid Bacteria (LAB) species can be presented in distinct environments. In this study, Turkish fermented sausage (sucuk) was tested for the presence of EPS producer LAB strains and slimy-mucoid colonies were selected for further tests. Among the isolates, Weissella confusa strain S6 was identified and tested for the physicochemical characterisation of its EPS. This strain was found to produce 0.74 g L-1 of EPS in modified BHI medium conditions. Structural characterisation of EPS S6 by 1H and 13C NMR demonstrated that EPS S6 was a highly branched dextran type glucan formed by mainly (1 -* 2)-linked alpha-D- glucose units together with low levels of (1 -* 3)-linked alpha-D-glucose units as branching points. This structure was further confirmed by methylation analysis detected by GC-MS. An average molecular weight of 8 x 106 Da was detected for dextran S6. The FTIR analysis supported the dextran structure and revealed the presence of distinct functional groups within dextran S6 structure. A strong thermal profile was observed for dextran S6 detected by DSC and TGA analysis and dextran S6 revealed a degradation temperature of 289 degrees C. In terms of physical status, dextran S6 showed amorphous nature detected by XRD analysis. SEM analysis of dextran S6 demonstrated its rough, compact and porous morphology whereas AFM analysis of dextran S6 detected in its water solution showed the irregularity with no clear cross -link within the dextran chains.     Capacity-spectrum push-over analysis of rock-lining interaction model for seismic evaluation of tunnels

    Evaluation of tunnel performance in seismic -prone areas demands efficient means of estimating performance at different hazard levels. The present study introduces an innovative push -over analysis approach which employs the standard earthquake spectrum to simulate the performance of a tunnel. The numerical simulation has taken into account the lining and surrounding rock to calculate the rock -tunnel interaction subjected to a static push -over displacement regime. Elastic perfectly plastic models for the lining and hardening strain rock medium were used to portray the development of plastic hinges, nonlinear deformation, and performance of the tunnel structure. Separately using a computational algorithm, the non-linear response spectrum was approximated from the average shear strain of the rock model. A NATM tunnel in Turkey was chosen for parametric study. A seismic performance curve and two performance thresholds are introduced that are based on the proposed nonlinear seismic static loading approach and the formation of plastic hinges. The tunnel model was also subjected to a harmonic excitation with a smooth response spectrum and different amplitudes in the fully -dynamic phase to assess the accuracy of the approach.     Review of In Situ Detection and Ex Situ Characterization of Porosity in Laser Powder Bed Fusion Metal Additive Manufacturing

    Over the past decade, significant research has focused on detecting abnormalities in metal laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF) additive manufacturing. Effective online monitoring systems are crucial for enhancing process stability, repeatability, and the quality of final components. Therefore, the development of in situ detection mechanisms has become essential for metal L-PBF systems, making efficient closed-loop control strategies to adjust process parameters in real time vital. This paper presents an overview of current in situ monitoring systems used in metal L-PBF, complemented by ex situ characterizations. It discusses in situ techniques employed in L-PBF and evaluates the applicability of commercial systems. The review covers optical, thermal, acoustic, and X-ray in situ methods, along with destructive and non-destructive ex situ methods like optical, Archimedes, and X-ray characterization techniques. Each technique is analyzed based on the sensor used for defect detection and the type or size of defects. Optical in situ monitoring primarily identifies large defects from powder bed abnormalities, while thermal methods detect defects as small as 100 mu m and keyholes. Thermal in situ detection techniques are notable for their applicability to commercial devices and efficacy in detecting subsurface defects. Computed tomography scanning excels in locating porosity in 3D space with high accuracy. This study also explores the advantages of multi-sensor in situ techniques, such as combining optical and thermal sensors, and concludes by addressing current research needs and potential applications of multi-sensor systems

    A1.1 Intangible Cultural Heritage Elements in Turkish Textbooks (Maarif Turkish Example)

    This study, which aims to examine the intangible cultural heritage elements in the A1.1 Maarif Turkish textbooks prepared by the Maarif Foundation, used an actual case study from qualitative research designs. Criterion sampling, one of the purposive sampling methods, was preferred as the object of investigation, and A1.1 level primary, middle, and high school textbooks prepared by the Maarif Foundation in 2021 were used. ICH list was used as a data collection tool, and the textbooks’ activities were analyzed in line with this list. Descriptive content analysis was used to analyze the collected data. Knowledge and practices related to nature and the universe, performing arts, rituals and feasts, oral traditions and narratives, social practices, handicraft tradition, place names on the temporary list, mixed heritage, and natural heritage were identified as the main themes in the list and descriptive analysis was carried out according to these themes. It was concluded that in all of the textbooks examined, greetings under the upper element of ICH oral traditions and expressions were given more space, the diversity of ICH elements increased as the level of education increased, and greetings from ICH elements were quantitatively given enough space. In contrast, other elements weren’t given enough space
