The Impact of Using a Step-Counting Wristband on Promoting Physical Activity Before and During the Blessed Month of Ramadan
Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the impact of using a step-counting wristband on motivating physical activity before and during the holy month of Ramadan. Methods: The researchers used the experimental method in its quasi-experimental form due to its suitability for the nature and objectives of the study. The International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) was used to collect study data, along with the health app from Apple to calculate step counts over the six months preceding the study and during the application period. Additionally, a dummy technological wristband was utilized, explained to the sample participants as functioning to count steps and automatically send them to our database. The study population comprised students from the Department of Physical Education and Health at Amman Ahliyya University, totaling 240 male and female students. A purposive sample of 25 male students was selected, divided into two groups: the experimental group (10 students) and the control group (15 students), aged between 20 and 25 years. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS version 23, employing various arithmetic operations including means, standard deviations, percentages, and independent samples t-test to analyze the current study\u27s results. Results: The study results revealed a low level of daily physical activity among young individuals within the community during the six months preceding participation in the current study. The step-counting wristband positively influenced physical activity levels among youth by 62.90%. However, fasting during the month of Ramadan negatively impacted physical activity levels even in the presence of incentives. Conclusion: The researchers recommended that when measuring physical activity levels using a step-counting wristband, with the aim of evaluating activity levels (excluding fasting), it is necessary to subtract the percentage (62.90%) of the measured step count result to obtain individuals\u27 true levels
The Theme of Conflict Between the East and the West in Zadie Smith’s Novel White Teeth and Kiran Desai’s The Inheritance of Loss
The argument of this study revolves around the crisis of reconstructing identity as a manifestation of cultural resistance in White Teeth by British writer Zadie Smith and in Kiran Desai’s The Inheritance of Loss. This study will focus on how Zadie Smith and Kiran Desai attempt to build a culture of resistance in their respective nations\u27 consciousness through their works. As colonialism has proven its influence on the histories of colonized nations, the colonized have infiltrated the colonialists\u27 claimed justifications for imperialism. One of the controversial issues of post-colonialism is the question of identity, which has become very prominent in the modern age. This has led most writers, especially those with cultural diversity, to emphasize the idea of identity. The study will also examine how and why writers of resistance emphasize the need to free colonized societies from the cultural and political domination of imperial powers. It will demonstrate how both Smith and Desai strive to build a culture of awareness by interrogating the past, as illustrated in their novels. In these two novels, East meets West as a form of \u27cultural resistance\u27 within the context of imperialism. At the end of this study, the importance of conducting such research and the mutual resistance employed by these writers in constructing a culture of resistance will be highlighted. In each of these novels, the central tension revolves around the encounter and opposition between deeply rooted cultural factors, codes, and values in the East

Experimental Investigation of Multi-Cell Column Foun-dations Under Bending Loads
This study investigates the structural behavior of connections between multi-cell columns and foundations under bending loads. The term multi-cell refers to sections with multiple longitudinal hollow cores separated by thin webs. A total of eight specimens were modeled and analyzed using the finite element software ABAQUS/CAE [1], under a single loading line system until failure. To facilitate this study, a control specimen was created as a benchmark, enabling the assessment of various parameters\u27 impact on the connection. These parameters include embedment depth, the number of cells in the column, the presence of shear studs, internal plates, and concrete infill within the column. Each specimen featured a footing measuring 80 cm x 80 cm with a depth of 25 cm, reinforced with nine rebars in each direction. The base plate measured 20 cm x 20 cm with a 6 mm thickness, and the column had dimensions of 12 cm x 12 cm with a height of 1.5 m and a wall thickness of 6 mm. The performance of the connection was evaluated based on criteria such as crack load, ultimate load, load-displacement curves, energy absorption capacity, ductility index, and crack pattern, aiming to determine the efficacy of the tested parameters. Results indicated that increasing the embedment depth from 8 cm to 12 cm improved connection behavior, with ultimate load and energy absorption increasing by 175% and 225.8%, respectively. Changes in the column\u27s cross-section geometry also significantly affected performance: increasing the number of cells from two to three boosted ultimate displacement by 116.31%, while reducing the number of cells from two to one decreased it by 87.62%. The presence of shear studs in the embedment area positively influenced connection behavior, enhancing ultimate load, displacement, ductility index, and energy absorption by significant percentages. Furthermore, incorporating internal plates and additional reinforcement into the footing markedly improved structural behavior. Filling the column with concrete showed mixed results, increasing ultimate load but reducing displacement, ductility, and energy absorption
The Effect of Sugar-Free Gum on the Salivary pH of Children after Consuming Sweetened Milk
Objectives: This study aimed to monitor the changes in saliva pH after consuming a package of sweetened and chocolate-flavored milk, then studying the saliva pH changes after consuming a sugar-free gum sweetened with xylitol and sorbitol, in children with different additionally dental caries at the age of 3-5 years after conducting a laboratory study of milk to measure its acidity and the amount of added sugars and proteins to it. Materials and Methods: : A chemical analytical laboratory studied the pH and the amount of sugar and proteins added to milk (sweetened and chocolate flavored milk from (Hawa Al Sham Company). And a clinical observational study, of 30 children aged 3-5 years to find out the change in saliva pH after drinking sweetened and chocolate milk, then the effect of chewing sugar-free gum sweetened with xylitol and sorbitol on the pH.
Results: The results showed that the value of the significance level is smaller than (P \u3c 05.0), which means at the 95% confidence level, there are statistically significant binary differences in the salivary pH values between the two time periods before the test, two minutes after consuming milk and saliva pH values after two minutes of eating gum were greater than before the test and two minutes after consuming milk.
Conclusions: Drinking sweetened milk decrease a salivary pH below the resting value, but it did not fall below the critical value (5.5), which means milk remains a non-cariogenic substance even if sucrose and flavorings are added to it. The sugar-free chewing gum sweetened with sorbitol and xylitol had a role in raising the salivary pH values above the resting values, and have the positive effect in preventing dental caries
