Preliminary Spectral Matching Analysis of the Rod El-Farag Region in Cairo, Egypt
Abstract: Earthquake engineering assessments are essential for evaluating the seismic response of structures. Nonlinear dynamic analysis is a highly effective method for evaluating seismic re-sponse, considering the complex, three-dimensional, and dynamic behaviour of structures during earthquakes. The complexity of seismic damage assessment arises from ground motion and struc-tural modelling parameters. Spectral matching is a key method in seismic codes and aids in selecting earthquake accelerograms for performance- and force-based designs. Spectrum-matched data is increasingly used to estimate nonlinear structural responses. Spec-tral matching utilizes the wavelet adjustments introduced by Abra-hamson (1992) and refined by Hancock et al. (2006) to adjust earth-quake accelerograms to match a specified response spectrum, en-hancing the precision of seismic evaluations. This paper presents a preliminary spectral matching analysis of selected natural earth-quake accelerograms using SeismoMatch. The results show that SeismoMatch effectively matches the time history response spectra with the target spectrum, nearly achieving perfect alignment. The Peak Ground Acceleration (PGA), Peak Ground Velocity (PGV), and Peak Ground Displacement (PGD)values obtained from spec-tral matching exhibited significant deviations from the original val-ues, highlighting the impact of accelerograms amplitude scaling. Among the accelerograms analysed, the ground motion selected us-ing SeismoMatch with the Al Atik & Abrahamson (2010) algorithm produced the closest match to the target spectra compared to the other selected accelerograms
The degree of dependence of the Jordanian public on social media in health awareness of obesity diseases (Survey study)
The article aimed to reveal the dependency of social media platforms in educating the Jordanian public about obesity diseases and explore the cognitive, emotional, and behavioral effects on the Jordanian public. The survey method was adopted; an approach used in descriptive studies, and the questionnaire tool was used to a sample (357) of the Jordanian public in Amman. The study-produced results including the platform most used by the Jordanian public to receive knowledge about health awareness is WhatsApp in the first place, followed by Instagram and then Facebook. The results also showed that the health topics of most interest to the public on social media platforms are mental illnesses in the first place, followed by obesity diseases. The results also showed that the most prominent cognitive effects of health topics on social media platforms are reading correct health information when information conflicts between doctors and realizing the seriousness of some diseases. It appeared that the most prominent emotional effects were disturbing nightmares and increased cases of depression. The most prominent behavioral effect of health topics on social media platforms was reading the nutritional information printed on food products, and it was found that there is a correlation between exposure to health culture topics and obesity diseases among the respondents. The researchers recommended that health authorities, through their media, should adopt the dissemination of information related to the dangers of bad eating habits by following a healthy diet

A Comprehensive Framework for Assessing the Impact of Heritage Areas Renewal Projects on Visibility and Pedestrian Movement
Urban heritage reflects the cultural and historical significance inherent in cities. Heritage environments are pivotal attractions, distinguished by their landscapes, buildings, meanings, and patterns that illustrate the historical and cultural context. The conservation and development of cultural heritage constitutes a primary focus of urban renewal policies, with protecting both their buildings and heritage spaces being a critical trend in urban settings. This represents considerable challenge for planners and designers, as it is essential to ensure that renewal and development activities do not detract from the visual identity of the locality and its heritage district. Unplanned renewal operations may expose these areas to various pressures that may affect their value. Heritage urban spaces, such as plazas and streets, are a destination for residents and visitors to the heritage area. Thus, efforts must be made to make these spaces better quality, vibrant, integrated, and sustainable. By making the historic buildings in heritage urban spaces sufficiently visible, it is possible to recognize their historical significance and value and preserve the city\u27s cultural heritage. This paper evaluates the effect of renewal projects in heritage urban spaces on the visibility of historic buildings and how these projects affect their spaces’ use and the movement in it. The approach involves on-site observation and movement mapping, in conjunction with space syntax to facilitate an understanding and prediction of user behavior and movement. Additionally, the isovist model is employed to better comprehend how visual stimuli influence perception and movement within the urban environment. The renewal project of the surroundings of Al-Sayed Al-Badawy Mosque in Tanta, Gharbia Governorate, was selected as a case study because of its significance as a religious tourism area in the middle of the Delta. The study showed the impact of renovation works on the urban space on the visual identity of the heritage area. This emphasized the need to integrate the space syntax structure as a tool in the design decision-making process when renovating and developing heritage urban spaces alongside traditional methods to enhance successful open spaces. In addition, it is necessary to study the existing uses in the heritage urban space and its impact on movement and density in the proposed design
Revitalizing Visual Identity: A Framework to Improve the Quality of Urban Space in Historic Districts Case Study: Al-Saliba Street, Cairo
Recently, the visual identity of urban spaces represents a basic variable of human-made environments. Because the human is being affected by the natural and artificial surroundings of his environment, the cultural values, and the social environment participate in the creation of urban spaces. Therefore, the importance of evaluating the visual identity of urban spaces becomes evident in their improved qualities. In this context, the historic districts contain planning patterns, social networks, historic buildings, ceremonial rituals, and traditional lifestyles, crafts, and skills. All of that forms the uniqueness of the cities that contain historical sites and configures the visual identity of their different spaces according to the history painting their paths and squares. However, the historical sites often suffer from urban deterioration, loss of cultural identity, inadequate functionality, and weak visual image accompanying the expansion of cities and the recent urban transformations, which of course negatively affect the aesthetics of their visual components as well as their urban characteristics. Accordingly, this paper aims to address revitalizing the visual identity of historical districts as a key strategy to improve the quality of their urban spaces, with a concentration on Al-Saliba Street in Egypt. This paper also provides a comprehensive framework emphasizing the cultural and visual characteristics of urban spaces in order to strengthen their identity and quality. This framework is anticipated to be applied to other Egyptian historical districts, as it is expected to foster a unique strategy for a stronger visual appeal, preserved cultural heritage, and improved liveability levels for similar cases
Arbitration Fees, Expenses and Determination Controls
The Jordanian Arbitration Law No. 31 of 2001, along with its amendment No. 16 of 2018, addresses arbitration fees and expenses. Article 41/D (1, 2, 3) outlines how to determine the arbitrators\u27 fees, their distribution, and how to handle situations when one party fails to pay its share, assigning the second party to pay on their behalf. Once the final arbitration decision is issued, the arbitration fees and expenses are determined. Decisions regarding these fees are subject to appeal before the relevant appeals court within fifteen days. However, the law does not comprehensively regulate this matter. Unless a written agreement exists, the issue falls outside the jurisdiction of the appeals court. This research explores the definition of arbitration fees from the perspectives of jurisprudence, the judiciary, and various legislations, focusing on the estimation of fees, especially in Ad-Hoc Arbitration. The Jordanian legislator has not provided specific principles for estimating these fees, which should also consider the arbitrator\u27s experience and length of career. In contrast, Institutional Arbitration has clearer criteria. The research concludes that the lack of specific legal provisions for judicial oversight over the arbitral tribunal\u27s fee decisions has led to inconsistencies in judicial decisions by the Court of Appeal. Legislative intervention is needed to address these gaps in the law
