Marketing Campaign for Pope County Habitat for Humanity
Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit organization that assists families by building them homes. Habitat raises funds, interviews families in need and chooses a candidate, builds a home, and then gives the house to the family. What sets this organization however, is that they give a “hand up, not a hand out”. Instead of just giving them a house, they require the family to help build it. Also, the family is expected to pay an affordable mortgage back to Habitat. This philosophy promotes a sense of ownership in these new homeowners, and hopefully that will encourage them to take good care of the property. Habitat for Humanity in Pope County has been active for ten years, but many locals still do not know that a Pope County branch exists. This lack of awareness severely limits the donations that HFHPC receives, which in turn hinders the home-building process. Therefore, my project was to create a marketing plan that would spread awareness of the Pope County branch of Habitat for Humanity, and to raise money for their 2022-2023 house build. The project was very successful! We raised over $2000 from two cookie jars sales that I organized and hosted with the help of the HFHPC board members. Our sales were also featured in three different newspapers, so that raised a lot of awareness for the Pope County branch of Habitat for Humanity
Five Thousand Years of Egyptian Double-Pipes and Musical Cultural Influences
Ancient Egypt was one of the earliest of human societies to pursue the development of music, and many of the musical concepts they pioneered over five-thousand years ago are still in use. Along with the preservation of musical ideas, certain ancient Egyptian instruments have also stood the test of time, through both preservation and evolution. However, the development of these instruments from their ancient to modern forms is sparsely discussed. Along with this, virtually no research explores the evolution of these instrument forms from a chronological context. This paper seeks to investigate and chronologize forms of the ancient Egyptian double-pipe, from their earliest depictions to the modern instruments derived from these ancient forms.
Using this timeline, this paper will also seek to understand the methods by which traditions are able to be upheld. In understanding how tradition and culture are upheld, these principles can then be transferred to elevate one’s understanding of how traditions and culture can be upheld in a musical context. This research investigates the topic from not only a musicological perspective, but also an anthropological perspective, combining the studies to fully understand the importance of not only these instruments, but culture and tradition in the musical canon
Reworking of the Arkansas Tech Human Resources Employee Records Software
Evisions Argos is a real-time reporting tool used by Arkansas Tech in many record-keeping departments. Reworking HR\u27s software using this tool, security and database access concerns were negated, as Argos is already connected to the University\u27s backend. Using Argos, we have made ATU HR\u27s employee records software more user friendly and built a system that can be pushed to production for use by the university. As a secondary portion to this final project, we developed a proof-of-concept web application using the MEAN (Mongo, Express, Angular, Node) stack. This gave us the opportunity to produce a full-stack application from scratch as well as learn new technologies that many in the group were unfamiliar with
Perceptions of Nature-Based Educators: A Phenomenological Study
The purpose of this qualitative phenomenological study was to explore the perceptions of practicing nature-based educators and to find how classroom educators can become skilled in providing students with opportunities to learn in nature. In the study, there were 13 participants who represented a variety of individuals, with impressive educational credentials, who are currently employed or volunteering with a nature-based education organization. The data were collected through an intensive literature review, participant interviews, and field observations within two nature-based education organizations. The major findings include the overall difference between nature-based education and the typical classroom setting, as well as the current trends that are noticeably hindering the progression of nature-based education in Arkansas. Themes that presented concerns for the progression of implementing nature-based education within the daily structure of the school setting include: the challenges presented in nature-based education, the lack of training and professional development opportunities, and the current level of administrative support
Determining the Preparedness of Nursing Programs and Faculty for the Next Generation NCLEX-RN
Fifty-two nursing faculty from ADN (Associate Degree Nursing) and BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) programs in the state of Arkansas were surveyed to examine the preparedness resources and interventions to prepare for the Next Generation NCLEX-RN (NGN) and to explore the perceptions of nursing faculty on their readiness to teach critical thinking, clinical judgment, and their competency with NGN item writing. A quantitative cross-sectional descriptive design was used for this study utilizing a self-created survey. The survey revealed 40% of participants felt adequately prepared with item writing, and 35% reported feeling adequately prepared to test using the new NGN item writing question formats. This study identified a need for preparedness of nursing programs to develop NGN item writing skills. Although 55% reported their program had implemented some form of training, when asked if they had regularly scheduled training, 33% reported they did not. Many resources for achieving preparedness were assessed, with webinars being the highest-scored resource at 37% for education and competence. Limitations of the study include a small convenience sample and assessment during the semester instead of at the semester\u27s end. Implications for future research include reaching a larger sample size and the development of an assessment tool for the continuation of seamless research on this topic of faculty preparedness.

Arkansas Elementary Administrators\u27 Perceptions of Determining Teacher Proficiency in the Science of Reading
The science of reading has become a buzzword in education across the nation. In 2017, the Arkansas General Assembly passed the Right to Read Act (Right to Read Act, 2017). The law requires all elementary core (reading, mathematics, science, and social studies) teachers, kindergarten through sixth grade, and all kindergarten through twelfth-grade special education teachers to be proficient in scientific reading instruction (Right to Read Act, 2017). The law also requires all educators with an Arkansas Teaching License to know the scientific reading process (Right to Read Act, 2017). After the 2017 legislative session, the Arkansas Department of Education launched the Reading Initiative for Student Excellence (RISE; Right to Read Act, 2017). This qualitative study involved Arkansas elementary principals that were identified as certified assessors. As certified assessors, these principals observe teachers seeking a demonstration of proficiency in the science of reading. The individual interviews were conducted virtually during the 2022-2023 school year. The participants answered 13 questions and discussed three artifacts. The responses were collected, analyzed, and coded into emerging themes. These findings resulted in implications for practice and future research regarding the science of reading in Arkansas. The results of this research revealed five themes: the principal’s training regarding the science of reading, the principal’s support and resources, the principal’s educational background, the principal’s classroom observations, and the building principal’s beliefs regarding the science of reading.

The Unheard Voices of the Arkansas Delta: Living Through School Desegregation
This study was guided by the central research question: What are the lived experiences and perceptions of former African American teachers and students that endured segregation, desegregation, and integration in Arkansas\u27 Delta? The phenomenological study used eight former African American teachers and student participants. Of the participants, there were four former teachers and four former students. In this study, the participants\u27 voices are captured as they share their experiences and perception of each phase of education that influenced their lives and left an everlasting imprint. Through counternarratives, the participants provided insight into education in the Arkansas Delta during school segregation, desegregation, and integration. The findings from this study disclosed that the education system entailed opposition for African Americans, but they triumphed despite the adversities
Technical Agriculture Skills Teachers Need to Teach Courses in the Animal Systems Pathway
Fundamentally, agricultural teacher education programs and their faculty are tasked with preparing competent teachers capable of teaching students enrolled in public schools. As part of their design, an important facet of these programs is ensuring pre-service teachers are ready to provide educational opportunities in aspects of school-based agricultural education (SBAE), including teaching technical agriculture skills to students. Identification and Initial Characterization of Hfq-associated sRNAs in Histophilus somni Strain 2336
Small RNAs (sRNA), in association with the global chaperone regulator Hfq, positively or negatively regulate gene expression in bacteria. For this study, Histophilus somni sRNAs that bind to Hfq were identified and then partially characterized. The Hfq-associated sRNAs in H. somni were isolated and identified by co-immunoprecipitation using anti-Hfq antibody, followed by sRNA sequencing. Sequence analysis of the sRNA samples identified 100 putative sRNAs, out of which 16 were present in pathogenic strain 2336, but not in non-pathogenic strain 129Pt. Bioinformatic analyses suggested that the sRNAs HS9, HS79, and HS97 could bind to many genes putatively involved in virulence/biofilm formation. Furthermore, multi-sequence alignment of the sRNA regions in the genome revealed that HS9 and HS97 could interact with sigma 54, which is a transcription factor linked to important bacterial traits, including motility, virulence, and biofilm formation. Northern blotting was used to determine the approximate size, abundance and any processing events attributed to the sRNAs. Selected sRNA candidates were confirmed to bind Hfq, as determined by electrophoretic mobility shift assays using sRNAs synthesized by in vitro transcription and recombinant Hfq. The exact transcriptional start site of the sRNA candidates was determined by RNA ligase-mediated rapid amplification of cDNA ends, followed by cloning and sequencing. This is the first investigation of H. somni sRNAs that show they may have important regulatory roles in virulence and biofilm formation
Diversity of Antimicrobial Peptides in Silkworm
Antimicrobial resistance is a phenomenon that the present-day world is witnessing that poses a serious threat to global health. The decline in the development of novel therapeutics over the last couple of decades has exacerbated the situation further. In this scenario, the pursuit of new alternative therapeutics to commonly used antibiotics has gained predominance amongst researchers across the world. Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) from natural sources have drawn significant interest in the recent years as promising pharmacological substitutes over the conventional antibiotics. The most notable advantage of AMPs is that microorganisms cannot develop resistance to them. Insects represent one of the potential sources of AMPs, which are synthesized as part of an innate immune defence against invading pathogens. AMPs from different insects have been extensively studied, and silkworm is one of them. Diverse classes of AMPs (including attacins, cecropins, defensins, enbocins, gloverins, lebocins and moricins) were identified from silkworm that exhibit antimicrobial property against bacteria, fungi and viruses, indicating their potential therapeutic benefits.
