O quaternário e as formações superficiais
No full textThis article proposes to place the Quaternary period in the chronology of the cenozoic age and, secondly, to analyze the sedimentary deposits and products resulting from climatic and biological action during this period of history. Also analysed are pleistocene glaciations, the resulting paleoclimate and their repercussions upon the landscape of the continents. In the second part of the article, the author seeks to take into consideration the superficial formations produced by all the geological agents of morphoclimatic zones of the Earth. O propósito deste artigo é situar o quaternário na cronologia da era cenozóica, e, num segundo momento, analisar os depósitos sedimentares e os produtos do intemperismo, produzidos nesse período da história. São analisadas as glaciações pleistocênicas e os paleoclimas que delas derivaram, e suas repercussões na paisagem dos continentes. Na segunda parte são consideradas as “formações superficiais”, produzidas por todos os agentes geológicos, em todas as zonas morfoclimáticas da Terra. 
Estado e política em Max Weber
No full textThe author discusses in this article one approach to the rich and polemical thought of Weber: its conception of the State and consequently its understanding of political action. Departing from a certain simplistic vision, that always considered Weber an anti-Marx, to perceive the depth of the contribution of his thought and to do justice to the greatness of both, the author seeks to recover the importance that Weber places upon political action, so fundamental in these times, where the prevailing thought insists upon disqualifying it. Este artigo, busca-se tratar de uma faceta do rico e polêmico pensamento weberiano: sua concepção de Estado e, por consequência, seu entendimento da ação política. Fugindo de uma certa visão simplificadora, que sempre considerou Weber um o anti-Marx - deixando, por isso, de perceber a profundidade da contribuição de seu pensamento e não fazendo jus, dessa forma, à grandiosidade de ambos - tenta-se aqui recuperar a importância que o autor confere à ação política, algo fundamental nestes tempos em que o pensamento único insiste em desqualificá-la. 
Da etnografia às narrativas ficcionais da práxis ecologista uma proposta metodológica: uma proposta metodológica
No full textTrying to explain aspects of the militancy and personal characteristics-of ecologists as well as their work in different parts of the world, not interferring in the methodological characteristics peculiar to human sciences (interviews, questionnaires and ethnographic reports) the author suggests “fiction narratives” as a method. Their origin is connected with the ethic aspects belonging to the privacy of the militants which are exhibited publicly. Literary contributions from Jorge Luis Borges, Clarice Lispector and Fernando Pessoa have been used in the production of this text.Procurando explicitar os aspectos da militância e das características pessoais dos ecologistas, bem como sua atuação em diferentes partes do mundo, sem interferir nas características metodológicas próprias das ciências humanas (entrevistas, questionários e relatos etnográficos), o autor propõe, como metodologia, as “narrativas ficcionais”. Sua origem está relacionada com as questões éticas de exposição no espaço público de particularidades que se situam no âmbito privado dos militantes. Na sua elaboração foram utilizadas as contribuições literárias de Jorge Luis Borges, Clarice Lispector e Fernando Pessoa
Consumo, Renda e Investimento no Real
No full textThis article deals with the new phase of the “Plano Real” whose characteristic is the combination of continuous inflation rate decline with the decline of Brazilians\u27 income and consumption. The reduction of consumption and income is due, to a certain extent, to the fact that the “Plano Real” is unable to expand the investment expenses and thus is unable to have a sustained growth. The core of the problem is found in the enormous external vulnerability of the country due to the adopted stabilization strategy. Consequently, economical growth and exchange rates are liable to sudden interruptions and changes which affect the continuity of demand growth and businessmen\u27s profit expectations. Under these conditions, uncertainties and fears increase and it is very difficult to create an expectant attitude that favors investments. A proof to this assertion is that the evolution of investment expenses as a proportion of the GNP has not increased within the “Plano Real”. Este artigo trata da nova fase do Plano Real, que se caracteriza por combinar redução contínua do patamar inflacionário com declínio do consumo e renda do brasileiro. A redução do consumo e renda deve-se, em boa medida, ao fato de que o Plano Real não consegue expandir o gasto de investimento e, portanto, não consegue crescer sustentadamente. A raiz do problema encontra-se na enorme vulnerabilidade externa do país que decorre da estratégia de estabilização adotada. Como conseqüência, o crescimento econômico e o câmbio estão sujeitos a abruptas interrupções e mudanças que afetam a continuidade de expansão da demanda e as expectativas de lucro dos empresários. Nessas condições, multiplicam-se as incertezas e temores e dificulta-se a formação de um estado de expectativas favorável ao investimento. Prova disso é que a evolução do gasto de investimento como proporção do PIB praticamente não cresceu no Plano Real.
