The other side of COVID-19 pandemic: Effects on male fertility
The outbreak of novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has become a
major pandemic threat worldwide. According to the existing clinical
data, this virus not only causes respiratory diseases and affects the
lungs but also induces histopathological or functional changes in
various organs like the testis and also the male genital tract. The
renin-angiotensin system (RAS), also ACE 2 and TMPRSS2 play an important
role in the cellular entry for SARS-CoV-2. Because the male genital
system presents high ACE 2 expression, the importance of this pathway
increases in COVID-19 cases. As the COVID-19 pandemic has affected the
male genital system in direct or indirect ways and showed a negative
impact on male reproduction, this paper focuses on the possible
mechanisms underlying the damage caused by COVID-19 to the testis and
also other components of the male genital tract

Advances in the preparation and synthesis of heparin and related products
Heparin is a naturally occurring glycosaminoglycan from livestock,
principally porcine intestine, and is clinically used as an
anticoagulant drug. A limitation to heparin production is that it
depends on a single animal species and potential problems have been
associated with animal-derived heparin. The contamination crisis in 2008
led to a search for new animal sources and the investigation of
non-animal sources of heparin. Over the past 5 years, new animal
sources, chemical, and chemoenzymatic methods have been introduced to
prepare heparin based drugs. In this review, we describe advances in the

Successful intraosseous adenosine administration in a newborn infant with supraventricular tachycardia
Background. Supra ventricular tachycardia (SVT) is the most common type
of tachycardia in childhood. The incidence is 1-4/1000 in childhood and
0.6/1000 in newborns.
Case. Here we report a 28-day-old male newborn who was diagnosed SVT,
admitted to the Pediatric Emergency Department after restlessness that
had started three hours before admission and measurement of the heart
rate was above 250 beats/min.
Conclusions. This case is presented in order to emphasize that SVT is
rare in the neonatal period and SVT is successfully terminated with the
administration of intraosseous adenosine
Thalamocortical network interruption: A fresh view for migraine symptoms
Migraine is a multifaceted brain disorder where multisensory
disturbances are associated with headache. Yet sensory symptoms are
conventionally justified by dysfunctions confined to the cerebral
cortex, a perspective through the complex interplay of thalamocortical
network would provide the entire picture, more pertinent to the central
sensory processing. It is important to consider thalamus as a hub that
integrates multiple domains via extensive connections among anatomically
and functionally separate cortical areas. Accordingly, cortical
spreading depression (CSD), implicated in migraine pathophysiology can
be seen as a tool to disconnect thalamocortical network by functionally
eliminating cerebral cortex. Hence, including thalamic reticular nucleus
and higher order thalamic nuclei, which conveys the information
transthalamically among visual, somatosensory, language and motor
cortical areas, would greatly improve our current understanding of
migraine
