The mosaics of the Upper Church in the Eastern Necropolis at Priene
This article focuses on the analysis of floor mosaics uncovered during excavations conducted between 2019 and 2024 in a single-nave church located in the Eastern Necropolis of Priene. The study evaluates the preservation state, protective interventions, and iconographic design of the mosaics, highlighting their rich decorative repertoire including geometric, floral and figurative patterns such as dolphins and kantharoi. The architectural features and mosaic complexity suggest that the structure is more appropriately classified as a church rather than a chapel. Through comparative analysis with similar Early Christian examples across Asia Minor and the Balkans, the mosaics are upper as to 4th–6th centuries AD. The spatial and chronological relationship between this church and the nearby Eastern Necropolis Basilica is also discussed, suggesting that the former may predate the latter. The findings offer valuable insights into the early Christian community’s architectural and artistic practices in Priene.Priene’de Hellenistik, Roma İmparatorluk ve Geç Antik Dönemlerdeki Dini Dinamiklerin Araştırılması” başlıklı ADEP projesi kapsamında üretilmiştir
False witnessing: Theory and practice in the premodern ottoman empire
This article explores false witnessing in the early modern Ottoman period, drawing on premodern doctrinal considerations, lawbooks, a variety of archival sources-including court records, complaint registers, registers of important affairs, and registers of punishments-and narrative sources by contemporary observers of the Ottoman polity. Our discussion is intended to complement jurisprudential formulations on the topic with insights into Ottoman legal practice. In the latter regard, we examine the prevalence of false witnessing in Ottoman courts, its impact on litigation processes, and the profiles and motivations of habitual false witnesses. Additionally, we provide information on how the Ottoman legal system attempted to police and discipline this crime, and the factors that may have influenced the government effort in this regard
Islam from different perspectives in cuban society
The Islamic religion has been present in Cuba since the era of Spanish colonization, but its organized practice began in the 1990s during a religious revival in the country. Despite the increasing presence and practice of Islam in Cuba, Muslims face unfavorable views and some acts of discrimination. With the aim of fostering peaceful coexistence, this research sets out to analyze the significance of Islam for both Muslims and non- practitioners of this religion in Cuba. To accomplish this, Drawing and Free Word Association techniques were applied to non-Muslim Cubans, while Muslims were interviewed. The instruments used with non-Muslims reveal the existence of prejudices and stereotypes based on a distorted understanding of the realities of Islam. Meanwhile, those used with Muslims show that Islam is central to their lives, constituting a way of life that influences their future perspectives. This research, based on qualitative methodology, allows for the contrasting of diverse perspectives on Islam and delving into a topic that is little studied in Cuban society
Cultural conspiracy in the age of consumption: The spectacle of commodity
This text contains a study on consumer culture. The age we live in has been reduced to matter with the separation of thought from its metaphysical roots, and matter has been glorified in this age. With this severance, modern humanity, having abandoned the cultural foundation rooted in God, has succumbed to the hyper-reality traps of consumer culture, surrendering itself to the illusion of commodities. In this new cultural order, everything has become a spectacle, and reality has yielded its place to simulations. Modern man, like a leaf blown by the wind, wanders aimlessly in pursuit of the madness of consumption and the spell of commodities. In this age where culture has become synonymous with consumption, everything has been cloaked in an artificial glow. Reality has given way to simulations; man, meanwhile, struggles to cling to the toys of this artificial world. In this order where thought has been abandoned, moments of inaction turn into unbearable boredom, and modern man strives to fill this void with the temporary illusions offered by consumer culture. This work traces the threedimensional crisis at the heart of the cultural conspiracy of consumption. The severing of metaphysical elements and their reduction to matter, the integration of culture with consumption—one of the highest forms of culturalization—and finally, humanity's abandonment of thought and reflection in favor of consumption passivity are all examined from a critical perspective
Exploring the impact of generative artificial intelligence on gastronomy and culinary arts education through an extended TAM framework.
The integration of generative artificial intelligence (GAI) into higher education is transforming pedagogy, particularly in applied fields like Gastronomy and Culinary Arts (GCA). This study investigates the factors influencing GCA students’ intentions to use GAI tools, using the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). Constructs include perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, attitude, perceived risk, innovativeness, and digital financial literacy. Data were gathered via an online survey from 541 associate and undergraduate GCA students in Türkiye and analyzed through ML-SEM. The findings show that perceived usefulness and ease of use have positive effects on student attitude and intention to use in the adoption of GAI technologies, while digital financial literacy and innovativeness significantly positively affect intention to use, and attitude mediates these relationships. The findings contribute to a more holistic understanding of the digitalization process of GCA education and deepen the theoretical understanding of the individual and cognitive processes involved
Covered kiwifruit cultivation on the axis of climate change
Climate change causes many negative effects on horticultural crops and especially on species that need more water, such as kiwifruit, as in all branches of agriculture. Growers are in a difficult situation especially in the face of increasing temperatures, scarce water resources and sudden climatic events. One of the most important protection methods applied today to protect from these negative effects is to cover the orchards/vineyards with different plastic materials. Different plastic covers developed for this purpose have the potential to contribute to the increase in quality as well as protect the kiwifruit plant from the negative effects of the climate. Using the covering systems is gradually increasing in response to the increasing high costs in kiwifruit growers in different countries around the world. Although these practices increase the establishment costs of the orchards, it is also due to the fact that they oblige the growers to use these covering systems in increasingly risky conditions. However, it is possible to reduce these high costs in favor of growers by increasing fruit yield and fruit quality. For this purpose, cultivating the new yellow and red fleshed kiwifruit cultivars using covered systems not only can help to protect from the negative effects of the climate, but also can help to increase their quality. Covered or closed kiwifruit production systems, which are common in the Far East, are increasing in Europe, especially in Italy. Even in the south of Italy, which is very hot in summer, kiwifruit production has become possible with the help of covered system production. Research on the effects of these systems on fruit quality is ongoing and more precise information on this subject will be obtained in the near future. These results show us that it will be possible to grow kiwifruit in marginal areas thanks to the use of covered systems, despite the negative effects of climate change in the coming years
Impact of foliar nanocalcium fertilization on yield and wine characteristics of ‘vranac’ wine grapes
This study investigates the impact of foliar application of calcium nanofertilizer (Fitosmart®) on the yield and quality of Vitis vinifera L. (cv. ‘Vranac’) grapes. The experiment was conducted during the 2023 growing season at a commercial vineyard in Montenegro, where vines were treated with a 0.5% calcium nanofertilizer solution at three critical phenological stages: pre-bloom, post-bloom, and veraison. The results showed a significant increase in grapevine yield, primarily driven by an enhanced number of clusters per vine, while cluster weight exhibited only a minor increase. Chemical analysis revealed delayed sugar accumulation in treated grapes, which impacted must and wine composition by slightly reducing total soluble solids and final alcohol content. Treated wines demonstrated increased levels of total polyphenols and anthocyanins, factors that contribute to the sensory quality of red wines, including aroma authenticity, harmony, and overall impression. These findings suggest that the foliar application of nanocalcium fertilizers can enhance both grape yield and wine quality, making it a promising, sustainable alternative to conventional mineral fertilizers. However, further research is needed to explore its broader applicability across diverse climatic conditions and grapevine varieties
Pressure ulcer risk in patients undergoing cardiovascular surgery and their occurrence within 24 hours of the operation
Objective: This study aimed to determine the risk of pressure ulcer (PrU) in cardiovascular surgery (CVS) patients and assess their occurrence within 24 hours of the operation. Method: The study was conducted with CVS patients (n = 200) meeting the inclusion criteria. The data was collected using the Patient Introduction Form and the Turkish version of the 3S Intraoperative Pressure Injury Risk Assessment Scale (3S IPIRAS). PrU development was assessed within 24 hours of the operation. Results: The mean age of patients was 63.61, and 32.0% were under 60 years old. Sixty-five percent of the patients were male, and 40.5% were overweight. Being female and the body mass index (BMI) score influenced the risk of PrU development. Some of the patients (14%) developed a Stage I PrU within 24 hours of the surgery. Conclusion: CVS patients are at risk of developing PrU, and the occurrence of PrU was high in this study. Preventive measures in the perioperative period and increasing awareness of PrU among healthcare personnel are essential
Unveiling disparity: A call to action for gender diversity in anatomy journal editorial teams
This study aimed to determine the representation of women on the editorial teams of anatomy journals and to investigate the possible reasons for gender differences. The anatomy journals listed in the Web of Science Master Journal List and on the International Federations of Associations of Anatomy website were evaluated. The number, gender, and academic titles of editors-in-chief, associate editors, and editorial board members were recorded, along with the journals' continents, association/society memberships, quartiles, and impact factors. A total of 36 journals were analyzed. Ten out of 49 (20.41%) editors-in-chief, 71 out of 347 (20.46%) associate editors, and 285 out of 1065 (26.76%) of the editorial board members were women. The number of women on editorial teams was not related to the continent of the journal, any association/society, or quartile/impact values (p > 0.05). Asian journals had a significantly higher proportion of men associate editors compared to the higher proportion of women associate editors among North American journals (p < 0.05). There were 6 (16.67%) journals that provided information on the gender of the editorial team, 13 (36.11%) that provided academic titles, and 5 (13.89%) that published photographs. Women were rarely represented in all positions on the editorial teams of anatomical journals. The anatomical editorial community has an opportunity to make improvements toward gender equality by considering policies and strategies to overcome gender disparities
Reconciling the Qurʾān and the bible: A new approach to scriptural dialogue
The Qur’ān’s assertion of its divine preservation naturally raises questions about the status of earlier revelations like the Torah and Gospel, which it recognises as authentic divine guidance (āl-͑Imrān 3:3). This study examines why the Qur’ān would affirm these scriptures while certain verses appear to critique their transmission. Through analysis of shared narratives and theological concepts, it explores whether references to ‘distortion’ [taḥrīf] concern textual corruption or interpretive deviation. The findings suggest that critical verses target specific interpretations within Jewish and Christian traditions rather than the biblical text’s integrity. This is evident in the Qur’ān’s engagement with biblical stories – affirming core messages while providing complementary perspectives. Frequent references to biblical figures and events, along with explicit validation of earlier scriptures, reveal a theological framework that honours their divine origin. By separating textual preservation from interpretive history, the study presents a nuanced view of inter-scriptural relations, showing how the Qur’ān respects earlier revelations while advancing its own theological message and encouraging integrative over polemical approaches. Contribution: This study clarifies Qur’ānic teachings on earlier scriptures and promotes constructive interfaith dialogue rooted in shared Abrahamic traditions. It proposes an integrative framework combining: (1) intertextual analysis of Qur͗ānic-biblical parallels, showing how shared stories serve distinct theological aims; (2) historical-critical study of these variations within Late Antique debates on prophecy and identity; and (3) reception history tracing classical and modern interpretations. This model sees Qur͗ānic adaptations as purposeful theological recontextualisations rather than claims of textual corruption
