Investigation of the effects of phytobiotic use with in ovo feeding method on performance, intestinal health and meat quality in sustainable broiler production
Çalışmada histomorfometrik değerlendirmede in ovo fitojen karması enjeksiyonu özellikle çıkımda duodenumda villus yüksekliğinde artışa, jejenumda emilim yüzey alanında artışa ve kript derinliğinde önemli düzeyde azalmaya (P<0,05) neden olmuştur. This study was conducted to determine the effects of in ovo feeding of different phytogenic (thyme-carvacrol, bay laurel-cineole) mixtures with antimicrobial, antioxidant and performance enhancing effects on performance, meat quality and intestinal health parameters during the incubation and post-hatch rearing period. A total of 345 fertile eggs obtained from 44-week-old Ross 308 broiler breeders with an average weight of 64.86 g were used in the study. Three groups, each consisting of 115 eggs, were formed, namely Negative Control group (NK), Positive Control (PK) group and Phytogen group. On the 18th day of incubation, 230 fertile eggs were injected into the amniotic sac with physiological saline (PSS) and phytogenic (bay laurel + thyme) solutions, respectively, at a level of 0.5 ml. At the end of the incubation period, when the hatching day parameters were examined, chick weight was determined to be higher in the in ovo injection groups compared to the NK group (P=0,008). The highest intestinal length (P=0,022) and intestinal weight (P<0,001) on the hatching day were determined in the phytogen group. When the 0-35 day rearing period was examined in the study, it was determined that the live weight gain and feed consumption values were positively affected in the group injected with the phytogen mixture compared to the other groups. The European Productivity Efficiency Factor (EPEF) value, which is an important criterion in evaluating production efficiency in poultry, was found to be significantly (P<0,001) higher in the phytogen group (522,40). Similarly, it was determined that the slaughter weight and carcass weight values were significantly (P<0,001) higher in the phytogen group. In the histomorphometric evaluation in the study, in ovo phytogen mixture injection caused an increase in villi height in the duodenum, an increase in the absorption surface area in the jejunum and a significant decrease in crypt depth (P<0,05). The study results showed that the phytogen mixture injected into the amniotic sac on the 18th day of incubation increased the chick hatching weight, supported embryo development and had positive effects on intestinal health. It was also revealed that these gains obtained in the early period were positively reflected in developmental performance
An innovative analytical simulation for scale-dependent transverse vibration of isolated protein microtubules
Microtubules, one of the cytoskeleton's main components, perform various important tasks and vibrate in many of them. Therefore, it is crucial to understand the vibration of microtubules. In this paper, it is aimed to present an innovative analytical simulation for the scale-dependent transverse vibration of isolated protein microtubules. For this purpose, the isolated protein microtubules are considered with scale effect under the assumptions of modified strain gradient theory and arbitrary boundary conditions. The model that satisfies the arbitrary boundary conditions is constructed by supporting the isolated protein microtubules at both ends with springs that can be deformed in the transverse direction. A hollow circular beam structure for isolated protein microtubules supported by transverse deformable springs at both ends is used based on the modified strain gradient theory and Rayleigh beam theory, which includes rotary inertia. The transverse displacement function of isolated protein microtubules is represented by the Fourier sine series. Using Stokes' transformation and boundary conditions that depend on the material length scale parameters contained in the modified strain gradient theory, a coefficient matrix including the isolated protein microtubules' properties is constructed. It is clear from the literature that no work analyzes the vibration of isolated protein microtubules with the mentioned procedures and under arbitrary boundary conditions. So, in this study, for the first time, the transverse vibration of isolated protein microtubules in a size-dependent mechanical model is considered under deformable boundary conditions, which is considered a more realistic support condition
Conservation and restoration practices of the three saints depicted in the wall paintings of the Balatlar Church
The wall paintings depicting three saints in the Balatlar Church, which belongs to the Greek Orthodox community of the late Ottoman period, have been damaged due to environmental and climatic factors. As a result, different types of deterioration have occurred. In addition, using the building with other functions at various times has increased the damage caused by human intervention on the wall paintings. During the use of the building after the exchange in 1924, the wall paintings were covered with whitewash. As a result of the cleaning works carried out in the southeastern part of the apse arch, it was determined that the depictions belong to St. Basil, St. Gregory, and St. Nicholas. In order to preserve the wall paintings that have survived to the present day in situ, a series of conservation procedures were carried out, including documentation, diagnosis, cleaning, consolidation, and retouching. Conservation planning was carefully tailored to the current condition, structural features, and specific requirements of the paintings. The process began with documentation practices, such as photo-documentation and drawings, and documentation continued throughout all interventions. Edge mortar and injection mortar practices were carried out on the wall paintings to reestablish the consolidation of the structural layers. Following the necessary interventions, cleaning procedures were performed to remove the layers of whitewash, microbiological growth, and surface deposits, revealing the scenes. The cleaning process continued with desalination practice. After consolidation and cleaning, various retouching methods were implemented to restore the visual integrity of the scenes, completing the conservation practices. Throughout these procedures, particular attention was paid to the climatic conditions of the area where the wall paintings are located. Within this context, the conservation restoration practices and their outcomes regarding the wall paintings depicting the three saints were evaluated and presented. Compared to other regions of Anatolia, very few wall paintings have survived to the present day in the Black Sea Region; therefore, data concerning the conservation-restoration of wall paintings in this area is quite limited. For this reason, the conservation-restoration practices applied to the Balatlar Church wall paintings hold particular importance as a reference for future studies
Agricultural producer support and production relation: Panel data evidence from selected countries on agricultural wheat crop
The studys' main purpose is to analyze the effect of wheat producer support on wheat production using panel data methods. The primary independent variable of interest is wheat producer support, and the secondary variables of interest are wheat harvested area, previous period price of wheat, and previous period production of wheat. Panel data include 352 observations from selected 16 countries between 2000 and 2022. All the data are annual and retrieved from the OECD official website. The main finding of this study is that wheat producer support has apositive effect on wheat production. This finding reveals that agricultural support increases agricultural production for wheat crops. The findings indicate that countries should give importance to producer support policies in agriculture and develop new support policies. The secondary findings of this study show that wheat harvested area, previous period price of wheat, and previous period production of wheat have a positive effect on wheat production. The study has significant consequences for the Mediterranean countries, which have a considerable share of world wheat imports during and after the analysis period
Discrimination in Indian politics: The reign of the BJP and Narendra Modi (2014–2024)
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), an extrem right-wing Hindu nationalist political party, became the first party in nearly seven decades, apart from the Indian National Congress to secure a clear parliamentary majority on its own. This victory, led by Narendra Modi, was based on promises of economic development, anti-corruption, and effective governance. However, during Modi’s leadership from 2014 to 2024, the government has struggled to deliver consistent economic progress, particularly in areas such as employment, inflation control, and public welfare. In response to these unmet expectations, the government has increasingly shifted focus toward religious and communal narratives. Political discourse often targeted minority communities, particularly Muslims, contributing to social polarization. This thesis examines how the BJP's policies and political strategies under Modi’s leadership have affected India’s minority and marginalized communities. It analyzes key policies such as the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), the National Register of Citizens (NRC), and the revocation of Article 370, alongside the use of media in shaping Modi’s image as a decisive national leader. Through this analysis, the study explores how the Modi government has contributed to the marginalization of minorities and deepened existing social and economic divides in Indian society
What does radiologic assessment contribute to asthma: A subanalysis of the Turkish adult asthma registry
ObjectivesIt is aimed to assess how physicians use chest imaging in asthma and the relationship between the pathological findings and related disease characteristics in the radiological imaging of asthmatic patients.BackgroundThe daily practice of imaging and its contribution to the management of asthma are not well defined. It is common to use radiological imaging to investigate pathologies that cause respiratory symptoms and to evaluate differential diagnoses in asthma patients. In this study, as a subanalysis of the Turkish Adult Asthma Registry, radiological findings and outcomes of asthmatic patients were examined.MethodsBetween March 2018 and March 2022, the data of asthma patients in 36 secondary and tertiary health care centers was recorded using a web-based application. Patients with chest X-ray, computed thorax tomography, and paranasal sinus tomography data in the asthma database were statistically evaluated for sub-analysis.ResultsThe study included 2053 patients. Chest X-rays were taken in the majority of the cases (n:1739; 84.7%). Computed thorax tomography was performed in 869 (42.3%) patients and paranasal sinus tomography in 388 (18.9%) patients. The most common pathological findings on chest X-rays of asthmatic patients were increased bronchovascular branching and dirty lung appearance, whereas they were linear atelectasis, and bronchial wall thickening on computed thorax tomography bronchiectasis. Soft tissue in the sinuses and nasal polyps were the most common pathological findings in paranasal sinus tomography. Pathological findings were much more common in the radiological evaluations of patients with eosinophilic and allergic phenotypes and in patients with severe asthma.ConclusionThe radiological findings of asthma vary depending on the phenotype and severity of the disease. Patients with asthma, particularly those in the high-risk group, should be evaluated from a radiological perspective
Investigation of the effects of atmospheric pressure cold and hot plasma on the adhesive bond strength of al 5049 and cfrp
In this study, the effects of atmospheric pressure cold and hot plasma treatment on the adhesive bond strength of 5049 aluminum alloy (5049) and carbon fiber reinforced polymer composite (CFRP) were investigated. For this purpose, plasma treatments were applied to sample surfaces prepared in accordance with the standard dimensions. The experimental design was created with a Central Composite Design using the Response Surface Method (RSM) with 3 different application distances and 3 different numbers of passes as plasma parameters. The contact angles of samples to which atmospheric pressure cold and hot plasma were applied and which were not plasma treated were measured. Depending on the experimental design, the adhesive strengths of the single-lap joint samples were determined by tensile test after the applied plasma treatments. As a result of atmospheric pressure cold plasma application, the average contact angle values decreased by 13.68% on the 5049 surface and 11.86% on the CFRP surface. As a result of hot plasma application, the average contact angle values decreased by 26.04% on the 5049 surface and 30.08% on the CFRP surface. Shear stress results of single-lap joints showed an increase of 5.83% after atmospheric pressure cold plasma and 7.97% after hot plasma.Balikesir University

Efficient methylene blue removal from water via graphene oxide-based composite cryogel column
In this study, a composite poly(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate)/graphene oxide (PHEMA-GO) cryogel column was developed for removal of methylene blue (MB) from aqueous solution. The PHEMA-GO composite cryogel column was synthesized by adding GO into cryogelation mixture and comprehensive characterization studies were conducted via Fourier Transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), mercury porosimetry, and swelling study. The total porosity was determined as 66.72%. The pore size was in the range of 4.31-220.6 mu m. The MB adsorption capacity of PHEMA-GO cryogel column was investigated considering different parameters, including GO amount, pH, contact time, ionic strength, temperature, and initial MB concentration. The maximum MB amount adsorbed amount onto the PHEMA-GO composite cryogel column was determined as 253 mg/g at 298 K (pH:5.3). The adsorption data were obeyed to Langmuir isotherm model and pseudo-second-order kinetic model. The adsorbed amount of MB was not affected from ionic strength, which is important for the dye removal from the textile wastewater. The composite cryogel column was reused 10 times without a decrease in the MB adsorption capacity. The application potential of the PHEMA-GO composite cryogel column was demonstrated using a real textile wastewater sample
An examination of the factors explaining the intention to adopt a vegan lifestyle as a collective action
Veganism is a social movement grounded in animal rights that seeks to eliminate all forms of animal use by humans. The movement entails not only the removal of animal products from individual lifestyles but also seeks to foster broader societal transformation through the promotion of this ethical way of living. In this study, veganism is conceptualized as a form of transformative collective action, and the research aims to identify the psychosocial factors that predict individuals’ intentions to engage with this movement. The study draws on the Social Identity Model of Collective Action (SIMCA), a widely used framework for understanding participation in competitive collective actions. To adapt SIMCA to a lifestyle-based and transformative form of collective action such as veganism, its core components were reinterpreted, and context-specific constructs were proposed. Several variables were refined or replaced to better reflect the nature of the vegan movement, and relevant measurement tools were developed or adapted accordingly. Data were collected from 218 participants via an online questionnaire. The findings indicate that the intention to adopt vegan practices is shaped by the interaction of various elements. Lower levels of Social Dominance Orientation and belief in human superiority over animals, alongside a strong sense of solidarity with animals, feelings of guilt over animal exploitation, and a belief in the moral impact of personal consumption choices, all significantly predict the intention to adopt a vegan lifestyle. In contrast, traditional SIMCA predictors—such as group-based anger, favorable attitudes toward the politicized group (i.e., vegans), and perceived collective efficacy—did not emerge as significant predictors. These results suggest that transformative collective actions may be driven by psychological mechanisms distinct from those underlying competitive collective actions—particularly mechanisms rooted in individual moral responsibility, egalitarian ideological orientations, and a sense of solidarity with the affected group—rather than by positive attitudes toward a politicized in-group, group-based anger, or perceptions of collective efficacy
