Plate auxetic structures, distinguished by their negative Poisson's ratio, demonstrate unconventional mechanical responses, expanding laterally under tension and contracting under compression. These systems, particularly plate-based designs, are increasingly studied for their exceptional energy absorption, impact resilience, and structural versatility. This research investigates the mechanical behavior of nine auxetic geometries, including reentrant, chiral, antichiral, meta-chiral, arrowhead, star, and a new hybrid auxetic design for three different materials, which are 30 % short glass fiber reinforced polypropylene (GF30PP), polyamide 6 reinforced with 30 % of short glass fiber (PA6/GF30), and high-temperature resistant polyamide with 15 % carbon fiber (CF15) are materials of the auxetic structures used in this paper. Energy absorption performance, maximum forces, and specific energy absorption amount are analyzed to evaluate their suitability for the nine auxetic designs. Findings reveal that Design 9, which is developed in this paper, shows the best energy absorption capacity for PA6/GF30 and CF15 materials

Direct current (DC) initiated flocculation of Scenedesmus dimorphus

    Get PDF
Despite their superior efficiency, chemical flocculants introduce foreign chemicals, such as metals, into harvested microalgae, posing downstream application challenges. To overcome this, a simple direct current (DC) initiated flocculation technology is proposed for microalgal harvesting. This method applies a DC electric field across titanium plate electrodes to promote microalgal cell aggregation by polarizing their electrical double layer. Scenedesmus dimorphus cultivated in Bold’s Basal Medium was tested under various voltage gradients (58, 116, 174, and 233 V/m) and energizing times (20, 40, and 60 min with DC applied), resulting in up to 94% flocculation efficiency based on dry algal biomass, significantly higher than controls. Microbubbles formed due to water electrolysis, but their impact on algal cell separation was minimal. Unlike electrocoagulation, DC-initiated flocculation uses inert electrodes and, thus, introduces fewer Fe or Al ions. This study is anticipated to facilitate research on electrochemically assisted algae harvesting and processing technologies

    Heidegger's Critique of Descartes

Bu makalenin amacı Heidegger'in Descartes’a yönelttiği eleştiriyi ortaya koymaktır. Heidegger’in eleştirisi özellikle, Descartes’ın düşünen şeyin varlık tarzını belirsiz bırakması, tözselliği önceleyen felsefesi, öznellik düşüncesi ve dünya fenomenini göz ardı etmesi üzerine temellenir. Heidegger, Descartes ile bireysel bir düşünür olarak değil, kendi zamanına kadar devam eden bir geleneğin kaynağı ya da başlıca örneği olarak ilgilenir. Kartezyenizmi kalıcı bir gelenek olarak ele alma eğilimi onun Kartezyen karşıtı düşüncesinden kaynaklanırThe purpose of this article is to present Heidegger’s critique of Descartes. First of all, for Heidegger, Descartes appears as one of the gravest examples of the oblivion of the question of being. Because with Descartes, philosophy acquires a quality based on the subject. Therefore, knowledge comes to the fore instead of existence, and existence is not considered in its true sense. For this reason, Heidegger aims to overthrow and reconstruct Descartes' philosophy so that the question of being can be truly thought. Heidegger's criticism is based in particular on Descartes' failure to clarify the mode of existence of the thinking thing, his philosophy that prioritizes substance, his concept of subjectivity, and his neglect of the phenomenon of world. Heidegger is interested in Descartes not as an individual thinker, but as the source or prime example of a tradition that has continued until his own time. His tendency to treat Cartesianism as an enduring tradition stems from his anti-Cartesian thinking

On the torsional vibration of a porous nanorod with arbitrary boundary conditions considering nonlocal lam strain gradient theory

    Get PDF
Porous materials are an important type of advanced materials due to their excellent properties, with one of the most notable being their lightweight nature. It is also important to accurately understand the mechanical response of nanorods, one of the components of nano-electro-mechanical systems. Therefore, a porous material is considered for the nanorod and elastic boundary conditions are considered, which presents a more realistic model. In order to provide a general eigenvalue solution based on these boundary conditions, an approach based on Fourier sine series and Stokes' transform is considered. The main novelty of this eigenvalue solution, which calculates the torsional frequencies of the porous nanorod, lies in its ability to analyze both rigid and deformable boundary conditions. Although the analysis of other types of rods under arbitrary boundary conditions has been performed in the literature, the torsional vibration of porous nanorods based on nonlocal Lam strain gradient theory presented in this work is the first. To summarize the key findings of the study, it can be said that an increase in the nonlocal parameter and the porosity parameter which affects the shear modulus, cause a decrease in the torsional vibrations of the porous nanorod. On the other hand, an increase in the material length scale parameters, the spring stiffnesses at the ends and the porosity parameter, which causes the alters the mass density, results in an increase in the vibration frequencies

Kierkegaard felsefesinde kendi olmayı mümkün kılacak varoluş durumlarının çağımıza yansımaları

Kierkegaard, one of the most important thinkers of 19th century Europe, marks a turning point in the history of philosophy, both in his life and in his ideas that transcend his time. Kierkegaard’s critical approach to modern philosophy and Enlightenment thought, considered the starting point for existential philosophy, also formed the basis for his understanding of truth and ethics. Kierkegaard’s views on truth, ethics, and religion essentially focus on a single problem, the problem of ‘being oneself’. Kierkegaard sees ‘being oneself’ not as an abstract, rational essence or ideal, but as a concrete, existential, vital state of being. To what extent is it possible to ‘being oneself’, which in Kierkegaard’s philosophy of existence stands out as a possibility for modern people? Kierkegaard addressed the problem of ‘being oneself’ on an existential basis, questioning it within the perils of the age he envisioned and seeking a solution. In Kierkegaard's philosophy, there are important states of existence that will bring the possibility of ‘being oneself’ which is described in various ways within aesthetic, ethical, and religious realms of existence, to our time. These states of existence that will create the possibility for the contemporary individual to ‘being oneself' can be listed as individuality, freedom, interiority, passion, attachment, fear, pain and hopelessness.19. yüzyıl Avrupa'sının önemli düşünürlerinden biri olan Kierkegaard hem yaşamıyla hem de çağını aşan düşünceleriyle felsefe tarihinde bir kırılma noktası oluşturmaktadır.

Optimal hydraulic engine mount parameters using design of experiment (DoE) and response surface methodology

    Get PDF
This study experimentally investigated the parameters such as dynamic hardening, inertia track cross-sectional area, decoupler hardness, and fluid volume affecting the damping properties of passive hydraulic engine mounts. Two levels were determined for these parameters, and the full factorial design of experiment (DoE) was created. According to the DoE, hydraulic engine mounts with various design configurations were assembled and tested. Based on the test results, a response surface was created in the Hyperstudy software, and the optimal parameters were obtained via the surface for the desired hydraulic mount performance. Another mount close to the optimum design configuration was then analyzed by the Hyperstudy, and the analysis results were confirmed with the test results. It was observed that the experimental and analysis results were consistent. As a result, it has been demonstrated that the mount parameters can be decided with the response surface generated with the DoE. So, both time and cost advantages can be achieved by eliminating trial and error in production

In this study, for the first time, a multilayer radar absorber (MRA) is designed using fabrics coated with the Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) technique. For this purpose, cotton, glass, and polyester fabrics are coated with ZnO and TiO2 of different thicknesses between 20 and 100 nm. Permittivity and permeability values of the coated fabrics are determined with Vector Network Analyzer (VNA) waveguide characterization kits in the 2-8 GHz band. 34 different materials consisting of different fabrics coated with different thicknesses are obtained. The double-stage ABC algorithm was used in the design of the MRA structure, and 5 different designs were obtained. In the 2-8 GHz band, 0 degrees\documentclass[12pt]{minimal} \usepackage{amsmath} \usepackage{wasysym} \usepackage{amsfonts} \usepackage{amssymb} \usepackage{amsbsy} \usepackage{mathrsfs} \usepackage{upgreek} \setlength{\oddsidemargin}{-69pt} \begin{document}\circ\end{document}-40 degrees\documentclass[12pt]{minimal} \usepackage{amsmath} \usepackage{wasysym} \usepackage{amsfonts} \usepackage{amssymb} \usepackage{amsbsy} \usepackage{mathrsfs} \usepackage{upgreek} \setlength{\oddsidemargin}{-69pt} \begin{document}\circ\end{document} incidence angle, 3 different designs with a maximum reflection coefficient of - 10 dB for both transverse magnetic (TM) and transverse electric (TE) polarizations are obtained. Then materials were brought together to verify the simulation results with the waveguide measurement kit. The produced multilayer radar absorber (MRA) promises hope for defense and health applications with its lightweight and effective performance

    Invasive prolactinomas

    No full text
Prolactinomas can be classified into several categories. Pituitary adenomas are categorized as invasive or noninvasive depending on their ability to cross the delineations established on the medial and lateral borders of the internal carotid arteries in coronal imaging. Lactotrophic invasive adenomas are managed in a manner analogous to benign adenomas. Initially, medical treatment is recommended, except in cases where emergency surgery is necessary or dopamine agonists are contraindicated. Prolactinomas can be classified under various categories, despite the higher prevalence of aggression. A prevalent classification distinguishes adenomas based on their invasiveness. Invasion is a predictor of the rate of remission attainment following surgical intervention. The Knosp classification is the most widely utilized system for assessing invasion. Pituitary adenomas are categorized as invasive or noninvasive based on their ability to cross the delineations on the medial and lateral borders of the internal carotid arteries observed in coronal imaging. Knosp developed this classification by correlating surgical findings of invasions with magnetic resonance imaging results. The management of lactotrophic invasive adenomas parallels that of noninvasive adenomas. Medical treatment is preferred initially, except in cases necessitating emergency surgery or where dopamine agonists are contraindicated. While aggressiveness is prevalent in invasive lactotroph adenomas, most cases exhibit a favorable response to dopamine agonist treatment, resulting in a swift reduction in adenoma size. In cases of dopamine agonist resistance, alternative treatment options warrant evaluation. It is important to note that rhinorrhea may occur following the commencement of medical treatment for adenomas invading the sphenoid sinus
