    In recent years, people have had more expectations from the developed technology in medicine, especially in the field of orthopedics and traumatology. Tissue engineers are interested in techniques that benefit from patients cells and biomaterials, instead of prostheses and implants. On the other hand, researchers have begun to use various medicinal plants for regeneration and anti-cancer studies. In the present study, we aimed to produce cartilage and bone inductive scaffolds for osteochondral tissue engineering applications with the addition of hawthorn or elderberry extracts. Firstly, wet electro-spun poly (3-hydroxybutyric acid-co-3-hydroxyvaleric acid) fibers were integrated with a loofah mat. Then, they were impregnated into chitosan solution with/without hawthorn or elderberry extract. Composite hydrogel scaffolds were obtained by cross-linking with 0.3% (w/v) genipin. Fabricated scaffolds had more than 90% porosity and showed swelling capacity in the range of 1500–2200%. Based on the in vitro biocompatibility analyses using mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), all the fabricated scaffolds were found to be biocompatible by WST-1, ALP activity, and GAG content analysis. Also, histological/immunohistochemical analyses showed that hawthorn and elderberry extract addition increased MSCs proliferation and collagen type I and II positivity. Consequently, all the scaffolds showed promising features for osteochondral tissue engineering applications.Open access funding provided by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Türkiye (TÜBİTAK)

    Objectives: This study aims to identify, visualize, and analyze articles on the relationship between climate change and diabetes, providing an overview of the literature to guide future researchers on this topic. Methods: Data for this study were retrieved from the "Web of Science Core Collection" database on January 11, 2024. A search using the keywords “climate change” and “diabetes” yielded a dataset of 387 articles. The data were analyzed using bibliometric analysis, performance analysis, and scientific mapping with "VOSviewer" and "R-based Bibliometrix" software. The analysis included publication trends by year, author productivity, country distribution, and keyword co-occurrence patterns. Results: The authors with the highest number of publications were identified as Liu Y (n = 5) and Seiffge-Krenke I (n=5). Most articles were categorized under Environmental Sciences (n=82) and published in English (n=379). The United States led in publication count (n=114). Central keywords in the literature included “climate change,” “health,” “risk,” “exposure,” “air pollution,” and “ambient temperature,” while health-related terms like “obesity,” “diabetes mellitus,” “insulin resistance,” “cardiovascular disease,” “blood pressure,” and “glycemic control” were closely associated with these themes. Conclusion: This study highlights a notable lack of nursing research on the intersection of climate change and diabetes, underscoring an urgent need for more nursing-focused studies on this subject. These findings can serve as a foundation for future nursing research, encouraging interdisciplinary contributions to address this critical public health challenge.Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı, iklim değişikliği ve diyabet arasındaki ilişkiye dair makaleleri tespit etmek, görselleştirmek, analiz etmek ve bu konuda gelecekteki araştırmacılara yol göstermek için literatüre genel bir bakış sağlamaktır. Yöntem: Bu çalışma için veriler 11 Ocak 2024 tarihinde “Web of Science Core Collection” veri tabanından alınmıştır. “İklim değişikliği” ve ‘diyabet’ anahtar kelimeleri kullanılarak yapılan aramada 387 makaleden oluşan bir veri kümesi elde edilmiştir.     Background: This study aimed to evaluate the effects of edoxaban, which is used in venous thrombosis, systemic embolism, and stroke, on an aortic aneurysm model and to demonstrate the pharmacokinetic and molecular effects of edoxaban through the induction of apoptosis. Methods: In this double-blind experimental study, 21 Wistar albino male rats (mean weight: 290 g; range, 280 to 300 g) were divided into three groups: the sham group (n=7), the abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) group (n=7), and the AAA-edoxaban group (n=7). Edoxaban 10 mg/kg was given to the AAA-edoxaban group by oral gavage daily for 30 days. At the end of 30 days, the aneurysmal aorta was surgically removed and histologically examined. The abdominal aorta was surgically exposed and wrapped with a calcium chloride (0.5 mol/L) sponge for 10 min. Results: Immunohistochemically, aortic sections were marked with caspase-3 and caspase-9 antibodies. It was observed that the pathways that trigger apoptosis (caspase-3 and caspase-9; p<0.004 and p<0.005, respectively) were significantly reduced in the AAA-edoxaban group compared to the AAA group. In the AAA-edoxaban group, it was observed that the expansion in aortic diameter and the deterioration in the elastic fibril structure in the aortic aneurysm were decreased as a result of edoxaban treatment. Edoxaban treatment was observed to reduce cell death in both the tunica intima and tunica media. Conclusion: This study provided strong evidence of the protective effect of edoxaban on aortic aneurysm-related vascular damage by reducing apoptosis and mitophagy.Amaç: Bu çalışmada venöz tromboz, sistemik embolizasyon ve inme tedavisinde kullanılan edoksabanın aort anevrizması modeli üzerindeki etkileri değerlendirildi ve edoksabanın apoptozu indükleme üzerinden farmakokinetik moleküler etkileri gösterildi. Ça­lış­ma pla­nı: Bu çift kör deneysel çalışmada, 21 Wistar albino erkek sıçan (ort. ağırlık: 290 g; dağılım, 280-300 g) üç gruba ayrıldı: sham grubu (n=7), abdominal aort anevrizması (AAA) grubu (n=7) ve AAA-edoksaban grubu (n=7). Deneyde AAA-edoksaban grubuna 30 gün boyunca oral gavaj yoluyla 10 mg/kg/gün edoksaban verildi. Otuz günün sonunda, anevrizmal aort cerrahi olarak çıkarıldı ve histolojik olarak incelendi. Abdominal aort cerrahi olarak açığa çıkarıldı ve 10 dk süreyle kalsiyum klorürlü (0.5 mol/L) spançla sarıldı. Bulgular: İmmünohistokimyasal olarak aort kesitleri kaspaz-3 ve kaspaz-9 antikorları ile işaretlendi. AAA-edoksaban grubunda AAA grubuna göre, apoptozu tetikleyen yolakların (kaspaz-3 ve kaspaz-9; sırasıyla p<0.004 ve p<0.005) anlamlı olarak azaldığı görüldü. Edoksaban tedavisi sonucunda AAA-endoksaban grubunda aortanevrizmasında gözlenen aort çapındaki genişlemenin ve elastik fibril yapısındaki bozulmanın azaldığı gözlendi. Edoksaban tedavisinin hem tunica intima hem de tunica mediada hücre ölümünü azalttığı görüldü. So­nuç: Bu çalışma, edoksabanın apoptoz ve mitofajiyi azaltarak aort anevrizmasına bağlı damar hasarı üzerinde koruyucu etkisi olduğuna yönelik güçlü kanıtlar sağladı

    Bu çalışmada, belediyelerin kamu yönetimindeki iletişim çabaları incelenmiştir. Belediye çalışanlarının kamuyla temas noktalarında sahip oldukları iletişim becerileri ve yaşadıkları iletişim çatışmalarını nasıl yönettikleri, kamusal iletişim yaklaşımı bağlamında ele alınmıştır. Çalışanların iletişim engelleri ve çatışma yönetimi tarzları analiz edilerek belediyelerin kamusal iletişim becerileri ölçümlenmiştir. Analizler, belediye çalışanlarının iletişim engellerinin düşük olduğunu göstermiştir. Çalışanlar, kamuyla kurdukları iletişimde algısal, psikolojik, duyuşsal, kişisel ve dilsel-davranışsal engeller açısından sınırlı engellilik düzeyine sahiptirler. Çatışma yönetim tarzları incelendiğinde, çalışanların en fazla uzlaştırma ve tümleştirme tarzlarını kullandıkları belirlenmiştir; bunları kaçınma, hükmetme ve ödün verme tarzları takip etmektedir. Bulgular, çatışma yönetim stratejilerinin iletişim engellerinin etkisi altında belirlendiğini göstermiştir. Hükmetme tarzının duyuşsal ve kişisel engellere, ödün verme tarzının dilsel-davranışsal ve kişisel engellere, tümleştirme tarzının kişisel, algısal, dilsel-davranışsal ve duyuşsal engellere, uzlaştırma tarzının kişisel ve algısal engellere, kaçınma tarzının ise algısal ve dilsel-davranışsal engellere sahip olan çalışanlar tarafından benimsendiği söylenebilmektedir.This study examines the communication efforts of municipalities within public administration. The communication skills of municipal employees at their points of contact with the public, and how they manage communication conflicts in public communication processes, are addressed within the context of public communication. The communication barriers and conflict management styles of the employees were analyzed to measure the public communication skills of municipalities. The analyses revealed that municipal employees have low levels of communication barriers. In their interactions with the public, employees exhibit limited levels of perceptual, psychological, affective, personal, and linguistic-behavioral communication barriers. When examining conflict management styles, it was found that employees predominantly use reconciliation and integration styles; these are followed by avoidance, domination, and compromise styles. The findings indicate that the strategies used to manage conflicts in public communication are influenced by the existing communication barriers. It can be stated that employees with affective and personal barriers tend to adopt a domination style, those with linguistic-behavioral and personal barriers favor a compromise style, those with personal, perceptual, linguistic-behavioral, and affective barriers prefer an integration style, those with personal and perceptual barriers lean towards a reconciliation style, and those with perceptual and linguistic-behavioral barriers are inclined to use an avoidance style

    Kütüphaneleri insanlık tarihi açısından değerli kılan en temel husus sahip oldukları dermenin kıymeti ve bu dermeyi kullandırabilme becerileridir. Tarihe mâl olmuş kütüphanelere bakıldığında söz konusu becerileriyle ön plana çıktıkları görülmektedir. Türkiye’de bu yanıyla Cumhuriyet öncesine de tanıklık eden, günümüzde ulusal kütüphane iklimimizin en önemli aktörlerinden birisi olan İzmir Milli Kütüphane sahip olduğu dermenin özgünlüğüyle geniş kitlelere hizmet sunmaktadır.The most fundamental aspect that makes libraries valuable in the history of humanity is the value of the collection they possess and the skills to use this collection. When we look at historical libraries, it is seen that they stand out with these skills. In Turkey, Izmir National Library, which has witnessed this aspect before the Republic and is one of the most important actors of our national library climate today, serves a wide audience with the originality of its collection.     Investigation of nurses' early identification of delirium in geriatric patients

    Amaç: Bu araştırma, yoğun bakım ünitesinde çalışan hemşirelerin CAM-ICU ölçeğini kullanarak geriatri hastalarında deliryumu erken dönemde tanımlayabilme durumunu değerlendirmek amacıyla planlanmıştır. Yöntem: Araştırma, tanımlayıcı bir çalışmadır. Çalışmanın örneklemini bir üniversite hastanesinin yoğun bakım ünitelerinde çalışan 88 hemşire oluşturmuştur. Veriler, ‘Hasta Tanıtım Formu’, ‘Hemşire Tanıtım Formu’ ve ‘Yoğun Bakım Ünitesinde Konfüzyon Değerlendirme Ölçeği (CAM-ICU)’ kullanılarak elde edilmiştir. İstatistiksel analizde Pearson Ki Kare, Fisher’s Exact Testi ve Çoklu Ki Kare testleri kullanılmıştır. Bulgular: Araştırmaya katılan hemşirelerin %84’ü kadın ve %72’si lisans mezunu, %72’si on bir yıl ve üzerinde meslekte çalıştığını bildirmiştir. Hemşirelerin bakım verdiği hastaların yaş ortalamasının 70 olduğu, hastaların %62,5’nin cerrahi yoğun bakım ünitesinde tedavi gördüğü ve %37,5’inin koroner arter bypass greft cerrahisi geçirdiği belirlenmiştir. Çalışmamızda; hemşirenin çalıştığı bölüm ile deliryum belirleme durumu arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir ilişki bulunmuştur (p<0,05). Lisans mezunu olan hemşirelerin çalıştıkları bölümler ile deliryum belirleme durumu arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir ilişki bulunmuştur (p<0,05). Meslekte çalışma süresi on bir yıl ve üzerinde olan hemşirelerin çalıştıkları bölümler ile deliryum belirleme durumu arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir ilişki bulunmuştur. (p<0,05). Sonuç: Çalışmamızda; lisans mezunu olan, çalışma süresi on bir yıl ve üzerinde olan, cerrahi yoğun bakım ünitesinde çalışan hemşirelerin deliryumu CAM-ICU ölçeğini kullanarak hekim tanısı koymadan tanımlayabildiği saptanmıştır. Bu veriler doğrultusunda; yoğun bakımda çalışan hemşirelerin deliryumu erken dönemde saptayabilmek için deliryum değerlendirme ölçeklerini rutin olarak kullanması ve deliryum konusunda hizmet içi eğitim planlamalarının yapılması gerektiği sonucuna varılmıştır.Objective: This study was planned to evaluate the ability of nurses working in the intensive care unit to detect delirium in geriatric patients at an early stage using the CAM-ICU scale. Method: The study was a descriptive study. The sample of the study consisted of 88 nurses working in the intensive care units of a university hospital. Data were obtained using the 'Patient Identification Form', 'Nurse Identification Form' and 'Confusion Assessment Scale in Intensive Care Unit (CAM-ICU)'. Pearson Chi-Square, Fisher's Exact Test and Multiple Chi-Square tests were used in statistical analysis. Results: Of the nurses who participated in the study, 84% were female, 72% were undergraduate graduates, and 72% had been working in the profession for eleven years or more. The mean age of the patients cared for by the nurses was 70 years, 62.5% of the patients were treated in the surgical intensive care unit and 37.5% underwent coronary artery bypass graft surgery. In our study, a statistically significant relationship was found between the department in which the nurse worked and the determination of delirium (p<0.05). A statistically significant relationship was found between the departments in which nurses with bachelor's degree worked and the determination of delirium (p<0.05). A statistically significant relationship was found between the departments in which the nurses working eleven years or more in the profession worked and the determination of delirium (p<0.05). Conclusion: In our study, it was found that nurses working in a surgical intensive care unit, with a bachelor's degree and eleven years or more in the profession could detect delirium without a physician diagnosis using the CAM-ICU scale. In line with these data, it was concluded that nurses working in intensive care units should routinely use delirium assessment scales to detect delirium at an early stage and in-service planning on delirium should be made

    An investigation of PLLA hybrid stent design to overcome thick strut problems

    Biodegradable polymer-based stents simultaneously provide scaffolding, drug release, and biodegradation to eliminate chronic inflammation. The most important factors hindering the wide use of these stents are thick struts, low radial strength, and large footprints formed on the inner wall of the artery as a result of stent expansion. Negative Poisson’s Ratio (NPR), also known as the Auxetic design, has shown great potential to provide radial strength with less strut thickness. However, a detailed mechanical evaluation proving improvement in stent performance parameters is not available in the literature. In this study, the performance parameters of two stent designs based on the Auxetic geometry with PLLA were analyzed under in-vivo conditions using an in-silico model consisting of the artery, crimper, and expander FE model. For this purpose, one design utilizes Auxetic unit cell, which is already available in the literature, while the other uses a newly proposed Hybrid design combining Auxetic and Chevron type geometries. Additionally, a specially heated coaxial balloon-catheter system was considered as a deployment tool between glass transition and body temperature, and carried out for thin-strut stent simulations. The Hybrid design is shown to resolve the foreshortening problem of Auxetic design and collapse pressure of commercial PLLA stents.     Comparison of yolov5 and yolov6 models for plant leaf disease detection

    Deep learning is a concept of artificial neural networks and a subset of machine learning. It deals with algorithms that train and process datasets to make inferences for future samples, imitating the human process of learning from experiences. In this study, the YOLOv5 and YOLOv6 object detection models were compared on a plant dataset in terms of accuracy and time metrics. Each model was trained to obtain specific results in terms of mean Average Precision (mAP) and training time. There was no considerable difference in mAP between both models, as their results were close. YOLOv5, having 63.5% mAP, slightly outperformed YOLOv6, while YOLOv6, having 49.6% mAP50-95, was better in detection than YOLOv5. Furthermore, YOLOv5 trained data in a shorter time than YOLOv6, since it has fewer parameters

    Can social media be a transformative tool for building a better society? The Case of youtube videos on consumer sustainability perception

    The study aims to evaluate consumers' perceptions of social marketing designed to enhance environmental awareness through social media platforms. The approach employed in this study is exploratory and interpretive. The data gathered from YouTube videos on the “Doğa İçin Çal” platform filmed during the 2019-2023 period were semiotically analyzed in terms of their content characteristics. Afterwards, the user comments were evaluated as well. During the analysis process, the consumer perception framework was used by utilizing the content analysis method through the Maxqda software program. The findings indicate that the videos effectively captured the target audience's attention and fostered social cohesion by promoting unity. However, the perception elements utilized in the videos indicate that the viewers pay greater attention to the aspects associated with musical performance, while the matter of environmental awareness remains in the background

    Protein-added kefir: biochemical changes inin vitro digestion stages

    BACKGROUND: While yogurt is the leading fermented milk product, kefir is at the top of the beverage scale. Milk proteins, onthe other hand, show specific functions that positively affect healthy nutrition due to the bioactive components, that they pro-vide the necessary amino acids for growth and development.RESULTS: In our study, kefir, a functional product enriched with whey proteins, casein and skimmed milk powder, which are thenatural components of milk, was produced. Added-protein kefir samples were applied the in vitro digestion protocol, staticmethod. In order to observe different protein behaviors, samples were taken pre-digestion, at 120th minute and at 240thminute of digestion protocol. ACE and Antioxidant capacity determination analyzes were carried out. While ACE inhibitionvalues were in the range of 78.63–90.30% pre-digestion, they changed in the range of 86.97–96.38% after gastrointestinaldigestion. It was determined that the ACE inhibition values of the control sample remained at the lowest level at all stagesof digestion and that the difference between all of samples was significant (P < 0.05). Antioxidant activity value ranging from0.3615–0.5512 meq Ascorbic acid/∼g before digestion was determined as 1.3796–1.9313 meq Ascorbic acid/∼g after gastroin-testinal digestion (P < 0.05).CONCLUSION: Kefir samples containing whey protein stand out with their high potential in terms of both antioxidant activity capac-ity and ACE inhibition activity at all stages of digestion. Considering their therapeutic effects in fermented products, it is thought thatwhey proteins among milk proteins will be important alternative sources to enrich the protein content in kefir production.© 2024 Society of Chemical Industry
