The relationship between obesity and oral health
Introduction: Obesity as a pervasive phenomenon in recent years has the risky consequences on public and oral health and endangers the teeth especially periodontal tissues. This aim of this study was to assess the relationship of oral health (teeth and periodontal tissue) with obesity and anthropometric measures such as waist circumference (WC) and body mass index (BMI).
Materials &Methods: This cross sectional study was conducted on 180 subjects in 3 groups of normal weight, over-weight and obese. Periodontal pocket depth (PPD), bleeding on probing (BOP) and Community Periodontal Index (CPI) were recorded. Multivariate logistic regression was also applied after adjusting for the confounding factors.
Results: Of 180 subjects, 54, 68 and 58 cases were normal, overweight and obese. 75 and 105 participants were male and female, respectively. Generally, a pocket depth was increased 1.394 times with one unit increase of BMI (OR: 1.394, 95% CI: 0.936-2.077). Dental caries index enhanced to 1.036 with one unit increase of waist circumference (WC) (OR: 1.036, 95% CI: 1.001-1.071). One centimeter rise of WC increased CPI up to 0.625 times (OR: 1.122, 95% CI: 0.053-0.078).
Conclusion: Obesity even in the absence of underlying systemic diseases can cause the potential risk in oral health

Tehran University Sports Management Research: Content analysis
Background and aim: The power of a university major to the body is distinct knowledge that is not provided by another major. Researches in the form of dissertations and theses make a large part of this body. The aim of this study was to investigate these templates in order to create new knowledge in the field of sports management.
Material and methods: This descriptive research was performed using content analysis. The statistical population of the research consisted of 167 dissertations and theses that have been published from 2011 to 2016. The measuring instrument was coding sheet of Ghassemi et al. and the coefficient of agreement (PSCAT) was 0.79 among the coders. Chi-square test with a significant level of 0.50 was used to compare the groups.
Findings: Totally, 52.8% of the research did not mention any sports. Among the rest of the studies, 14.8% were related to football or futsal, players, coaches or management organizations. Most titles were on other majors such as management and less topics were about physical education such as the quality of the sports camp (0.6%) leisure time (0.6%) sports event (1.7%). Although marketing, sports facilities and sports events were simultaneously opened at the faculty, mixed marketing was the first variable in 10.3% of documentation and there was less tendency to the other two. Wholly, 51.7% and 46.6% of the research started with the hypothesis and question. There was a significant difference between the research subjects and the fields of sports based on the guidance of supervisors.
Conclusion: In order to create the body of knowledge in sports management, in addition to common issues, the more specialized topics arising from the field of sports should be considered by the students, professors and planners of this field
Evaluation of soft tissue norms on lateral cephalograms in babol
Introduction: Soft tissue has a prominent role in diagnosis and treatment plan in orthodontics. Facial proportions are measurable on lateral cephalograms. The purpose of this study was to compare the means of the normal soft tissue proportions of babol people with the norms of Caucasians.
Materials & Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 100 cases with normal occlusion and proportional facial profile were participated from babol. After taking radiographs and tracing, the soft tissue variables were analyzed to find means and standard deviations. The data were compared with Caucasian's norms using T-test.
Results: The norms of following variables in babol people were significantly different from those of Caucasians: facial convexity, nasolabial angle, upper lip thickness, chin soft tissue thickness and protrusion of lower lip.
Conclusion: In babol, people have a more convex profile, more prominent nose and lower lip than caucasians
Location of mental foramen in a southeast iranian population: a digital panoramic assessment
Introduction: Mental foramen is an important landmark in mandible and knowledge regarding the actual location of mental foramen is important in dentistry.
Materials &Methods: A total of 1172 digital panoramic radiographs were evaluated for assessment of the location of the mental foramen. The location was classified into six groups in relation to the apices of the premolars and first molar.
Results: In 957 of panoramic radiographs, fulfilling the inclusion criteria, the most common location of the mental foramen was at the apex of the mandibular second premolar. In 837 cases (87.5%), the mental foramen was located symmetrically on both sides of the mandible. Therefore, the apex of the second premolar was the most common symmetric location in both genders.
Conclusion: The results showed that the most common location of the mental foramen in population of southeast Iran was at the apex of the second premolar
The effects of traffic noise on memory and auditory-verbal learning in Persian language children
Background: Acoustic noise is one of the universal pollutants of modern society. Although the high level of noise adverse effects on human hearing has been known for many years, non-auditory effects of noise such as effects on cognition, learning, memory and reading, especially on children, have been less considered. Factors which have negative impact on these features can also have a negative effect on learning and education development. In the present study, the effects of traffic noise were studied as pollutant on memory and auditory verbal learning of elementary school children.
Methods: The present cross-sectional study was conducted on 166 normal children aged 9-11 years. Eighty children were selected from noisy areas (Leq> 50 dBA) and compared with 86 children from low noise areas (Leq <50 dBA). Using Persian version of the Rey Auditory-Verbal Learning Test, various aspects of memory were studied in low noise and noisy environments.
Results: A significant difference was observed between two groups in all steps of the Rey test (p=0.00). There was a significant difference between two genders in various steps of Rey test (p=0.00). The average score of recognition was higher in the low noise group than the noisy one (p=0.00).\ud
Conclusions: Traffic noise had an adverse effect on the auditory verbal learning and memory of the studied students. Its effect is more on boys than girls. Since learning is very important in the development of students’ education and social skills, therefore, it is necessary to reduce the noise exposure of students in schools
Evaluation the helicobacter pylori infection in asthmatic children compared to control group
Background: Asthma is a highly prevalent chronic respiratory disease in children. Moreover, the underlying causes of asthma exacerbation are important because they are effective in controlling and preventing asthma. The aim of this study was to evaluate the helicobacter pylori infection in controlled and uncontrolled asthmatic children compared to healthy children.
Methods: This case- control study was done on 120 children aged 6-14 years with moderate to severe asthma. Diagnosis of asthma was performed according to GINA criteria with respect to the history and clinical examination. In addition, 120 healthy children without asthma were considered as the control group. Helicobacter pylori stool antigen test was evaluated for all patients. In addition to the above information, age, sex, duration of asthma and gastrointestinal symptoms were also recorded for each patient. Data were analyzed using SPSS15, Chi-square and Fisher's exact test and T-test.
Results: The mean age of children in the asthmatic and healthy children was 8.3±2 and 8.5±2.3, respectively (p=0.479). Totally, 57.5% and 58.3% of children were boys in the control group, and in asthmatic group, respectively. Thirty percent of children in the control group and 8.3% of children with asthma were H. pylori positive (p=0.000). Mean duration of asthma in children with H. pylori positive (3.3±1.55) and H. pylori negative (3.33±1.56) stool antigen showed no significant difference (p=0.944).
Conclusions: The results of this study indicated that there was an inverse relation between helicobacter pylori infection and asthma
A case report of variant scimitar syndrome
Background: Scimitar syndrome (SS) or congenital pulmonary venolobar syndrome is a rare anomaly, most commonly including partial pulmonary venous drainage into the inferior vena cava, right lung hypoplasia, dextroposition of the heart, and anomalous systemic arterial supply from aorta or one of its branches to the right lung.
Case report: A 10-day-old female infant was referred to our hospital with systolic murmur and tachypnea. Initial chest x-ray suggested cardiomegaly and displacement of cardiac structures into the right hemithorax, and initial echocardiogram indicated patent ductus arteriosus, coarctation of aorta, atrial septal defect, ventricular septal defect in this infant who was diagnosed as having SS.
Conclusions: We can consider Scimitar syndrome for infants with tachypnea, cyanosis, intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) and right lobe opacity in chest x-ray
Lymphoma infectious mononucleosis by Epstein-Barr virus: A case report
Background: Epstein-Bar virus (EBV) causes infectious mononucleosis in more than 90% of children. Rarely, mononucleosis may lead to malignancy. The aim the current study was to introduce a child with mononucleosis and persistent adenopathy.
Case report: A 4-year-old male patient presented with complaints of fever, shortness of breath and sore throat. He was treated with antibiotics and prednisolone. Normal flora was grown by pharynx and blood cultures. Due to the high clinical suspicion (persistent large lymph nodes), open biopsy of cervical lymph nodes was done after 3 weeks and Non-Hodgkin lymphoma disease was diagnosed in the biopsy.
Conclusions: Atypical presentation should be considered for every child and biopsy is inevitable in larger and persistent lymphadenopathy after 2 weeks. Because of poor prognosis and high mortality rate, early detection of lymphoma is very important
