Effects of 2,3-dihydrophthalazine-1,4-dion unit on therapeutic properties of organic fluorescent dyes
Cancer is a group of diseases that can spread to other parts of the body and affect almost all organs. Therefore, it is a very serious health problem and brings heavy social and economic burdens to societies all over the world. Moreover, the effectiveness of many of the current clinical methods, such as surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and immune therapy, are not at the desired level due to the specific disadvantages of each method. Consequently, enormous effort has been devoted to develop effective methods and drugs that can be used in cancer treatment worldwide. In particular, research has focused on the development of next-generation materials that can function as theranostics and are suitable for combinatorial therapies. In this thesis, rational design, synthesis and characterization of organic compounds that will enable cancer treatment are described. The design was rationalized by combination of two distinct units. The first unit is sensitive to reactive oxygen species whereas the second one consists of fluorescent organic dyes which are suitable for bioimaging, photodynamic therapy, and/or photothermal therapy with their superior properties. The structures of the synthesized fluorescent materials were elucidated by spectroscopic methods and their potential as photosensitizers was determined. The obtained data show that the designed structures can function as theranostic agents and can be used as new generation materials suitable for combinatorial therapies

A case of presumed bonsai-induced severe toxic optic neuropathy
Apart from the known factors that cause toxic optic neuropathy, there may be factors that have not yet been identified. We report a 32-year-old man who presented with a complaint of decreased vision. His optic discs were diffusely covered with a black pigment, and below were atrophic. The vessels appeared to have disappeared below the pigmentation. He reported smoking tobacco, drinking alcohol, and using cannabis. His vision in both eyes began decreasing gradually after he started using bonsai, a synthetic cannabinoid, 2 years previously. No case of toxic optic neuropathy with bilateral severe vision loss and intense pigmentation with the use of bonsai has been reported before, and our case will be reinforced if other such cases are reported in the future
Preservice elementary mathematics teachers' use of patterns and pattern problems when planning and implementing lessons
This study examines how preservice elementary mathematics teachers create patterns, write pattern problems, and prepare and apply lesson plans on this topic. In this context, five preservice elementary mathematics teachers who were in the final semester of their undergraduate education volunteered to participate in this research. The study was carried out within the scope of an elective course which lasted eleven weeks and in which patterns were discussed. Data were collected through interview, observation and document analysis. The results show that besides the complexity and originality criteria of written problems, preservice teachers have difficulty in writing quadratic growing pattern problems. In addition, some preservice teachers adopt a teacher-centered approach in planning and implementing their lesson plans. Most of the preservice teachers did not make connections between patterns and daily life and most of them did not use concrete materials in their lesson plans or lessons

This study has the potential to contribute to the gap in the literature, especially as a study of adapting the phased model of self-regulated learning to programming teaching. Instructors can use the self-regulating programming learning framework by adapting it to different disciplines
Foetal cardiac function in third trimester pregnancies with reduced fetal movements
*Gül, Murat ( Aksaray, Yazar )The objective of our study was to investigate the possible relationship between poor perinatal outcome and foetal cardiac functions in pregnant women with reduced foetal movements (RFM). This cross-sectional study included 126 pregnant women with normal foetal movements (Group 1, Controls) and 42 pregnant women over 32 weeks gestation with RFM (Group 2). Group 2 was further divided into two subgroups according to their perinatal outcome: normal perinatal outcome (Group 2a) and poor perinatal outcome (Group 2b). Cardiotocography, the E/A ratio in both atrioventricular valves, myocardial performance index (MPI) and foetal tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion (f-TAPSE) were evaluated. Foetuses with poor perinatal outcome had a higher MPI (p =.003), higher tricuspid and mitral E/A (p <.001), and lower f-TAPSE values (p <.001). In regression analysis, f-TAPSE was the only parameter (p =.04) independently associated with poor perinatal outcome. İn conclusion, examining f-TAPSE may predict adverse perinatal outcome in pregnancies with RFM.IMPACT STATEMENTWhat is already known on this subject? Reduced foetal movement (RFM) is associated with adverse pregnancy outcome. Cardiotocography, amniotic fluid assessment, estimated birthweight, foetal Doppler and formal foetal movement count (kick chart) are generally used in the clinical assessment of pregnancies with reduced foetal movements. These tests, we currently use to assess foetal wellbeing in women with reduced foetal movements, have limited sensitivity in predicting foetal compromise. What do the results of this study add? Foetal cardiac Doppler may potentially be used as an important adjunct to the conventional management of women with a perception of reduced foetal movements. What are the implications of these findings for clinical practice and/or further research? Foetal echocardiographic evaluation, such as f-TAPSE, may influence clinical practice by enabling improved risk stratification for poor perinatal outcome, thus allowing more timely definitive intervention. This could help to decrease the rate of stillbirth related to reduced foetal movements. The few established echocardiographically derived parameters, which can asses global right ventricle function, are not always easy to obtain, however, f-TAPSE is easily obtainable using ultrasound and it appears to be a clinically useful echocardiographic measurement of right ventricular function
Anxiety, social support and satisfaction of patients’ families in intensive care units: A descriptive-correlational study
This study was conducted with family members of patients’ in the intensive care unit (ICU) to identify their anxiety level, social support and satisfaction with the ICU. Background: Admission of critical patients to the ICU usually involves the participation of family members. Design: A descriptive-correlational design was used and reported according to the STROBE checklist. Methods: The sample consisted of 250 family members in ICUs in a city of Turkey. Data were collected by the Multidimensional Perceived Social Support Scale, the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory and the Family Satisfaction in the Intensive Care Unit scale. Results: A negative correlation was found between family satisfaction of the ICU and state anxiety (r = −0.349, p < 0.001), and a negative relationship between the satisfaction of the ICU and trait anxiety of the participants (r = −0.151, p < 0.05). There was a significant relationship between the state anxiety level (Adjusted R² = 0.080, F = 8.247, p < 0.001), trait anxiety level (Adjusted R² = 0.185, F = 19.821, p < 0.001), the perceived social support (Adjusted R² = 0.094, F = 9.640, p < 0.001) and satisfaction (Adjusted R² = 0.013, F = 4.161, p < 0.001) of family members and their sociodemographic characteristics. Conclusions: The study concluded that anxiety levels of relatives of the families were high, their social support and satisfaction with the intensive care unit were at a moderate level. There was a correlation between anxiety levels, satisfaction with the intensive care unit, and the perceived social support of families. Relevance to clinical practice: Holistic care for the psychosocial needs of families who have a member in the ICU should be planned to increase satisfaction. Nurses should observe families closely for anxiety, allow them to ask questions and include them in the care of their family member
