The aim of this study is to examine the ef- fects of core exercises on anthropometric features and some perfor- mance parameters in taekwondo athletes.Material and Methods: The participants of the study consisted of 30 male taekwondo athletes. Taek- wondo athletes in research group were divided into 3 groups, dynamic core exercises (DCE) (n=10), static core exercises (SCE) (n=10) and the control (n=10) group. Dynamic Core Exercise and Statik Core Egzer- siz groups were perfomed dynamic and static core exercises 3 days a week for 8 weeks in addition to taekwondo training programs respec- tively. In the study, the data obtained from the pre-test and post-tests of the Dynamic Core Exercise, Statik Core Egzersiz and control group were evaluated with the SPSS program. Results: According to the re- sults obtained from the study, no significant difference was found in the anthropometric features such as waist, hip and waist/hip ratios of the taekwondo athlets’ in the study (p>0.05). In addition, a signifi- cant difference was found in the performance characteristics of taek- wondo athletes’ in the leg raise, sit-up, plank and isometric back strength parameters (p0.05). Conclusion: While Dynamic Core Exercise and Statik Core Egzersiz performed after training in Taekwondo athletes did not have an effect on anthropometric features, it was found that Dynamic Core Exercise had an effect on some performance parameters. Therefore, It might be suggested that athletes in various sports branches perform core exercises in addition to branch-specific technical and tactical training

    Self-Assembled Short Peptide Nanostructures: ‘’Dipeptides’’

    Get PDF
Dipeptides are short peptide molecules formed by the peptide bond between two amino acids, and they play significant roles in various biological processes (such as protein synthesis, nutrient absorption, cellular signaling, immune response). Short peptides have a prominent place in the design of self-assembling materials. In particular, dipeptides have gained considerable attention in the field of biotechnology as a type of self-organizing nanostructure due to their low cost, simplicity of synthesis, biocompatibility, and tunability of functionality. However, there is limited knowledge about peptide and protein-based nanostructures in the literature. Therefore, more information is needed on dipeptide nanostructures, especially in terms of their potential applications for biomedical purposes. This review focuses on dipeptide nanostructures, particularly their potential uses in biomedical applications, and provides a broader perspective on the advantages, challenges, synthesis, interactions, and applications of these nanostructures

A new activated carbon-supported Pd–ZnO catalyst for Heck Cross-coupling reactions

    No full text
In this work, to develop catalysts for Heck-type coupling reactions, a hybrid ZnO-Pd nanocatalyst was fabricated on activated carbon sourced from polymer debris. Such techniques as transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) surface area analysis were applied for the identification of hybrid materials. The catalytic conversion capacity of the hybrid material was tested by Heck cross-coupling reactions through a series of aryl iodides and bromines with styrene. It was observed that cross-coupling reactions were catalyzed by designed hybrid material with a reaction yield of more than 90%. The recyclability of the hybrid was also tested by Heck reaction of 1-bromo-4-nitrobenzene with styrene, and the hybrid catalyst showed remarkable stability up to 5 cycles

Although brucellosis is very common in the world and Türkiye, there are no evidence-based guidelines to guide the diagnosis and treatment of the disease. This guide has been prepared by the Turkish Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases to provide evidence-based recommendations to physicians from different specialties interested in the diagnosis and treatment of brucellosis. The recommendations of the Clinical Practice Guide Development Guide of the Infectious Diseases Society of Amer- ica (IDSA) were taken as the basis for preparing this guide. The guideline preparation group determined 20 questions considered to be important in the diagnosis and treatment of brucellosis, and the publications that could answer these questions prepared in PICO (Population/Patient [P], Intervention [I], Comparison [C], Outcome [O]) format, were searched in ULAKBİM Tr Dizin, PubMed, Cochrane databases without date restrictions. The Grading of Recommen- dations, Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE) Working Group method was used to rank the evidence and determine the strength of the recommendations for each PICO question and for each individual outcome. Me- ta-analyses of comparative clinical studies were performed to answer the PICO questions. Individual participant data (IPD) meta-analyses with data obtained from case reports and case series were conducted in the absence of comparative clinical studies. It is planned to update the recommendations at regular intervals in line with the results of new studies

Iranians as real estate purchasers and international students: Transformation of Turkish-Iranian migration corridor

    No full text
In case of migration of Iranian nationals, while Mediterranean countries are hesitant to accept Iranian undergraduate students and do not admit applications from Iranian citizens due to sanctions, Turkey has increasingly been preferred by Iranian students and individuals who purchase real estate in Turkey in return of residency permit in the last decade. By revealing the South-South migration in context of capital intensified migration in Turkey, the article argues that the introduction of citizenship-by-investment category in 2016 regulating the exceptional acquisition of Turkish citizenship and increasing quotas for international students have motivated more Iranian students to apply undergraduate programs in Turkey and Iranian nationals to buy real estate in Turkey. This transformation in Turkish migration domain isin line with the neoliberal logic and demands of market by commodifying both citizenship and education. In unfolding motivations of Iranians, the research utilizes qualitative data collection technique in which I conduct twenty-five semi-structured interviews with Iranian undergraduate students and real estate purchasers. Interviews suggest that the mobility of Iranian students and investors offers a unique example in the Mediterranean region as Turkey has become a plausible option for Iranian nationals who can obtain an alternative way to exit from Iran

    Get PDF
Green technology innovation and effective use of green financing tools are very important in order to ensure sustainable economic and environmental development without environmental degradation, and to decarbonize all sectors. Evaluating the green investment process together with the inputs, outputs and the factors involved in the process will make important contributions in terms of determining the current situation, developing new and effective policies and raising awareness on green finance. For all these reasons, it is aimed to reveal the interaction mechanisms between GFI, CO2 emissions and GDP in this study. GFI, CO2 emissions, and GDP variables covering 26 countries between 2018-2021 were analyzed using panel data analysis with a fixed effects model. Firstly, it is found that CO2 emission had a negative effect on GFI, but GDP had a positive effect on GFI, and the effect of CO2 was greater than GDP. Secondly, GFI was found to have negative effects on CO2 emissions whereas GDP had positive effects, with GFI benefiting slightly more than GDP from these effects. Thirdly, GDP was shown to be positively affected by both GFI and CO2, and the analyses revealed that the effect of CO2 was much greater than that of GFI. The findings are considered important in terms of making predictions in terms of understanding and developing green finance and its effects

Beneficial effects of Chrysin on Cadmium-induced nephrotoxicity in rats: Modulating the levels of Nrf2/HO-1, RAGE/NLRP3, and Caspase-3/Bax/Bcl-2 signaling pathways

    No full text
Cadmium (Cd) is a toxic heavy metal that targets the kidney directly in the body. Chrysin (CHR) is a natural flavonoid with many properties such as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-apoptotic. The current study discloses new evidence as regards of the curative effects of CHR on Cd-induced nephrotoxicity by regulating oxidative stress, apoptosis, autophagy, and inflammation. Cd was administered orally at a dose of 25 mg/kg body weight alone or in combination with orally administered CHR (25 and 50 mg/kg body weight) for 7 days. Biochemical, molecular, and histological methods were used to investigate inflammation, apoptosis, autophagy, and oxidant pathways in renal tissue. Renal function tests were also evaluated. Cd caused an increase in serum toxicity markers, lipid peroxidation and a decrease in the activities of antioxidant enzymes. Nrf-2 triggered inflammatory responses by suppressing HO-1 and NQO1 mRNA transcripts and increasing NF-κB, TNF-α, IL-1β and iNOS mRNA transcripts. Cd caused inflammasome by increasing RAGE and NLRP3 mRNA transcripts. In addition, Cd application caused apoptosis by increasing Bax, Apaf-1 and Caspase-3 mRNA transcripts and decreasing Bcl-2 mRNA transcript level. It caused autophagy by increasing the activity of Beclin-1 level. CHR treatment had the opposite effect on all these values and reduced the damage caused by all these signal pathways. Overall, the data of this study indicate that renal damage associated with Cd toxicity could be ameliorated by CHR administration
