Fatalism and donation intention: who is more in control of their own life?
To date, consumer psychology literature has ignored the role of fatalistic beliefs in donation intention. Two subsequent quantitative survey studies (Ns = 289; 350) address this issue by investigating consumers’ fatalistic beliefs together with internal beliefs, empathy, and donation intention. In the first study, the new Fatalistic Story Scale is developed to measure how people evaluate others’ fate vs. self-fate through hypothetical life events. The second study analyzed people’s fatalistic beliefs’ relationship with donation intention and empathy. Findings of the first study suggested that people approach others’ lives more fatalistically than their own life. Considering this insight together with certain negative effects of fatalistic beliefs on beneficial and positive behaviors that have proven by studies from various disciplines, fatalism is expected to be negatively related to empathy and donation intention. Conversely, second study’s findings suggested that fatalism positively predicts empathy and donation intention. This contradiction and other findings are discussed together with implications

This study aims to investigate the inclusion of sustainable development goals determined by the United Nations Development Programme-UNDP in the illustrated children's books published for preschool children, and the document analysis method was used to describe the nature of illustrated children's books. The sample of the study consisted of 100 children's picture books published for preschool children. The "Sustainable Development Goals and Objectives Form" prepared by the researcher was used as a data collection tool. The books were analyzed according to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals determined by the United Nations and 169 targets under these goals. As a result of this analysis, the goals and targets were found to be available in 42 out of 100 books. Although these 42 books included just 11 out of the 17 goals of sustainable development, no data could be obtained for 6 of the goals. Among the 17 goals, most of the findings were related to "Life on Land" and "Sustainable Cities and Communities", and these findings were found in 15 out of these 100 books. There are 169 targets under the Sustainable Development Goals. In the analysis, findings were obtained for only 24 of these targets. Among the 169 targets, the item "Ensuring access to safe and inclusive green spaces and public spaces" was found to be the most relevant. This item was mentioned in 15 of the books. In order to teach sustainable development goals to children through books, publishing houses can work on publishing books that touch upon sustainable development goals. Parents and preschool teachers can learn sustainable development goals and prefer to purchase books that include these sustainable development goals
Urbanization-driven soil degradation; ecological risks and human health implications
Urban soils contaminated with heavy metals and pesticide residues are of great concern because of their adverse impact on human health. A total of 66 agricultural topsoil samples (15 cm) were collected to represent the study area and determine how anthropogenic activities adversely affect soil quality and human health. Sampling was conducted in the summer, when it was dry and hot, and in the winter, after atmospheric deposition. Seventeen potentially hazardous metals/metalloids (Ag, As, Al, B, Ba, Cd, Cr, Cu, Fe, Hg, Mn, Ni, Mo, Pb, Se, Zn, and V) were measured in the soils. The mean concentrations of metals ranged between 0.05 and 8080 mg/kg, and their distribution was site-specific, with high pollution at the sampling sites owing to proximity to human activities. In agricultural areas, the greatest arsenic concentration was recorded at 48 mg/kg. The potential ecological risk index (PERI) and health hazard index (HI) were calculated, as well as metal contamination indices including contamination factor (Cf), geo-accumulation index (Igeo), and pollution load index (PLI). The mean PLI was calculated to be 4.89, indicating that the area is highly polluted. The potential ecological risk index showed remarkably high risks for As, Cd, and Hg, and moderate risks for Ni and Pb. The arsenic hazard index (HI) was greater than one (2.41) in children, indicating a risk of exposure through ingestion. Pesticide residue analyses were performed in areas where the metal intensity was high. Banned or restricted organochlorine pesticide (OCPs) residues, including, dieldrin, endrin ketone, endosulfan I, II, heptachlor, heptachlor epoxide, lindane (γ-HCH), PP-DDD, and methoxychlor, were detected between 0.002 and 1.45 mg/kg in the soil samples
Child tracking system using smartphone
The number of missing children and kidnapping is on the rise in recent years. Every parent wills definitely going through an agonizing experience to have their children missing. Therefore, there are many safety measurements to prevent this incident from happening. The help of modern technologies is one of the ways to reduce children missing and kidnapping. A child can be tracked by using the global positioning system (GPS) and global system for mobile communication (GSM) technology. Advanced child monitoring systems are expensive. Not all families have the same living standards. For this purpose, a low-cost child tracking system is proposed in this study. The implementation of the proposed approach is reported in real-time
The Development of Islamic (Participation) Banking in Bangladesh and Its Contribution to the Economy
Reuse of vegetable wastes in animal feed: the influence of red beet powder supplementation on performance, egg quality, and antioxidant capacity of layer quails
The survey was carried out to establish the impact of red beet powder (RBP) on performance parameters and egg quality in laying quails. One twenty hundred (120) female laying quails aged 22 weeks were randomly assigned into five groups of 4 females each, and six replicates. Treatments diets were formed by adding 0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, and 0.8% RBP to the basal diet. The dietary inclusion of RBP did not affect performance parameters and egg production (P > 0.05) except feed conversion ratio, which was quadratically affected (P 0.05). However, the yolk index showed the highest value (P < 0.05) in quails fed 0.2% RBP. Free radical scavenging capacity (DPPH) of the yolk decreased (P < 0.05) when RBP levels increased above 0.6%. In contrast, the 0.6% RBP group had the highest level of thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS). Data from the present study provide valuable information to include RBP as an ingredient without affecting performance and egg production. It is an interesting option within the framework of the circular economy and of reusing vegetable products to use this ingredient in animal feed

Exploring the link between social work, entrepreneurial leadership, social embeddedness, social entrepreneurship and firm performance: a case of SMES owned by Chinese ethnic community in Turkey
Both social work activities and social initiatives, innovative solutions today it has to support the development and change of the society by producing. The purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of social entrepreneurship on firm performance of Turkey small and medium enterprises (SMEs) located in the Chinese ethnic community. In addition, the authors also examined the moderator role of social embeddedness in the relationship between social entrepreneurship and the Chinese ethnic community of Turkey SMEs on firm performance. Design/methodology/approach: Because it is seen that the decomposition validity is achieved between the dimensions for HTMT values, the current study, using the survey-based methodology, used structural equation modeling to achieve the research objectives. Ques-tionnaires were issued among 628 participants in selected international companies in Turkey and China. To mitigate any uncertainty and errors, the questionnaires were distributed face-to-face by hand (in Turkey), online (in China). A total of 274 questionnaires were used for the analysis which makes up to the 53.6% of the response rate. The findings of this study show that social entrepreneurial behavior influences organizational performance with a significant mediation between family ties and social networks and a strong moderation in entrepreneurial leadership. The findings of the present study largely agreed with the results of the hypothesis. The results of this study will give an idea about how social entrepreneurial behavior and entrepreneurial leadership can affect organizational performance and how social embeddedness affects this relationship. Findings: Outcomes will be important to SME leaders as they seek to link results, practices and results. SME leaders will better understand the role of social entrepreneurial behaviour and entrepreneurial leadership in corporate performance. This will apply in business practice and leadership in striving to improve the level of performance. Research limitations/implications: In this study, Turkey and China are limited to 274 participants in international companies. Because the findings of this study are limited to the sample it represents, there is no generalization of these results for all countries. However, given that the number of studies on this subject is very inadequate, this research is important in terms of shedding light on the work to be carried out next. Practical implications: This empirical research confirms the impact of social entrepreneurial behavior on organizational performance. Social entrepreneurial behavior integrates organizational performance, family ties, social networking and entrepreneurial leadership and empirically tests the relationship between them. Trade relations will ensure the interlocking of the countries involved in the research, and thus, improve the relations of the countries. Originality/value: The main aim of this study is to investigate the impact of social entrepreneurship on firm performance of Turkey SMEs located in the Chinese ethnic community. Trade relations will ensure the interlocking of the countries involved in the research and thus improve the relations of the countries. The authors believe that social entrepreneurial behaviour will close the gap in important mediation and entrepreneurial leadership between family ties and social networks and positively impact organisational performance. At the same time, as social capital is required for social work and social service is currently dealing with social capital at micro (bonding), mezzo (bridging) and macro (binding) levels, the authors recommend that studies be carried out that will contribute to the theoretical, research or application literature for the variables involved in the study
Production and characterisation of waste tire pyrolytic oil – Investigating physical and rheological behaviour of pyrolytic oil modified asphalt binder
The effort of basic restrict the use of petroleum-based products, the use of recycling and alternative resources have tremendous gained interest in the last decades. In this experimental study, waste tire granules were pyrolyzed under a vacuum atmosphere. Pyrolysis experiments occurred in a fixed bed reactor at 450 °C. The chemical characterisation of the pyrolytic oil was exanimated by various analytical methods, such as Infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), ultimate and gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry (GC-MS). It was determined that mainly contains aliphatic and aromatic compounds. In addition, pyrolytic oil was used as a partial replacement for conventional asphalt (petroleum-based) to limit the use of conventional asphalt in the applications of road engineering. The effect of the pyrolytic oil additive on the fundamental physical behaviours of the asphalt was evaluated, and also rheological behaviour of the asphalt binder was investigated by the viscosity (RV) and bending-beam-rheometer (BBR) tests. The addition of pyrolytic oil affected some physical properties of asphalt binders more or less. It was found that conventional and pyrolytic oil-modified asphalt samples met the technical requirement based on BS EN 14771 standard. Finally, it can be concluded that asphalt modified with pyrolytic oil can be used in road engineering applications under low-temperature conditions
