    Optimum Support Policy Component for the Development of Agricultural Production: Potato Producer

    The present study aimed to determine the optimum policy component in an example of potato cultivation development based on the principle of the efficient use of scarce resources and maximizing the benefit of the producer. Agricultural support policies are commonly implemented by adopting a top-down approach. Regarding benefit maximization at the target group level, policies for agricultural products should be determined with a bottom-up approach. In this manner, in the present study, potato producers were determined to be the target group. Therefore, this study investigated the policy component that provides the highest benefit in line with the demands, expectations, and tendencies of the target group. The micro-data obtained from the potato-growing enterprises operating in provinces where potato cultivation was intensively carried out within the scope of Turkey constituted the research data. A face-to-face survey technique was used as the method for collecting the producer data. Simple descriptive statistics and one of the multivariate analysis techniques, conjoint analysis, were applied in the analysis and evaluation of the data. The optimum policy component setup was determined to be “Price and Payment Support: Above Market Price and 2 months term, Support Area and Amount: to production, 25.47 USD/da (23.04 EUR/da), time of announcement for the supports: pre-planting, and producer’s declaration: I do (I declare)” for the potato product. Accordingly, the necessity of a bottom-up approach in the planning and implementation of an agricultural support policy in Turkey is explained based on the results obtained.     Evaluation of Oxidative Stress Levels and Dynamic Thiol-disulfide Balance in Patients with Retinopathy of Prematurity

    The aim of this study is to evaluate both dynamic thiol-disulfide homeostasis and oxidative stress (OS) levels in patients with retinopathy of prematurity (ROP). Methods: A total of 129 infants of .05). Low birth weight (p =.001), gestational age (p =.001) and 5-min Apgar score were significantly lower in the ROP group. Conclusion: This study revealed that dynamic thiol-disulfide homeostasis was changed in patients with ROP. Increased TOS and decreased TAS levels may be associated with functional reduction of the antioxidant system due to increased OS. This indicate that ROP patients are highly sensitive to OS. The dynamic thiol-disulfide homeostasis may conduce to the pathophysiological mechanism and disease follow-up in patients with ROP. The results of this study show that ROP patients are highly sensitive to oxidative stress

    The Relationships Between Memorable Tourism Experience, Revisit Intention and Recommendation Tendency in Balloon Tourism: The Case of Cappadocia

    Bu çalışma, balon turizmine odaklanarak unutulmaz turizm deneyimi, tekrar ziyaret etme niyeti ve tavsiye eğilimi arasındaki ilişkileri araştırmayı amaçlamaktadır. Veriler, Kapadokya’da sıcak hava balonu turlarına katılan yabancı turistlerden toplanmıştır (N=234). İlişkiler, yapısal eşitlik modeli kullanılarak incelenmiştir. Bulgular, unutulmaz turizm deneyiminin tekrar ziyaret etme niyetini ve tavsiye etme eğilimini etkilediğini, tekrar ziyaret etme niyetinin tavsiye etme eğilimini anlamlı bir şekilde etkilemediğini göstermektedir. Bu çalışma turizm literatüründe, Kapadokya’da balon turizmine odaklanarak unutulmaz turizm deneyiminin gelecekteki davranış eğilimlerini inceleyen ilk çalışmalardan biri olarak değerlendirilebilir. Ayrıca bu çalışma tekrar ziyaret etme niyetinin tavsiye etme eğilimi üzerinde bir etkisinin bulunmadığını ortaya koyarak turizm literatürüne katkıda bulunmaktadır.This study aims to investigate the relationships between memorable tourism experience, revisit intention, and recommendation propensity by focusing on balloon tourism. Data were collected from foreign tourists participating in hot air balloon tours in Cappadocia (N=234). The relationships were examined using the structural equation model.The findings show that the memorable tourism experience affects the revisit intention and the propensity to recommend, while the revisit intention does not significantly affect the propensity to recommend. This study can be considered as one of the first studies in the tourism literature to examine the future behavioral trends of the memorable tourism experience by focusing on balloon tourism in Cappadocia. In addition, this study contributes to the tourism literature by revealing that the intention to revisit has no effect on the propensity to recommend

    Relationship Between Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease and Severity of Diabetic Retinopathy

    The negative effects of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) on diabetes mellitus (DM) patients are known. For these reasons, we aimed to investigate the effect of COPD on the severity of diabetic retinopathy (DRP) in patients with DM. Materials and Methods: This prospective cross-sectional study included one-hundred and fifty-six eyes of 156 patients with COPD and DM. Multinomial logistic regression models were applied to evaluate the independent relationships between DRP and COPD, including adjusting for patients’ characteristics. Results: After adjustment for potential confounders, patients with low-level COPD were found to have less PDR and severe PDR. (RRR 0.01 95% CI 0.01-0.03, RRR 0.01 95% CI 0.01-0.08, respectively). Conclusion: The findings suggest an increased risk of DRP severity in patients with severe COPD. Ophthalmologists following these patients should consider the relationship between COPD and DRP

    Does glenoid bone loss accompany posterior shoulder instability with only labral tear? A magnetic resonance imaging–based study

    The primary aim of this study was to investigate bone loss in the glenoid with magnetic resonance imaging in posterior shoulder instability with only a labral tear. Methods: A total of 76 patients operated on because of posterior and anteroposterior shoulder instability only with a labral tear between 2006 and 2019 (n = 40 and n = 36, respectively) were included in this study. The instability type, a presence of an additional superior labrum anteroposterior (SLAP) lesion, the number of dislocations, and the magnetic resonance imaging–based measurements (the glenoid diameter and the bone defect size in the glenoid, the Hill-Sachs lesion [HSL] and the reverse HSL [rHSL] length, the angle and the arc length of HSL and rHSL, and the humerus head diameter and its area) were analyzed. Results: The size of the anterior glenoid defect, the rHSL measurements (length, angle, and arc length), and the ratio of the anterior glenoid defect size to the glenoid diameter were significantly higher for anteroposterior instability (P < .01) cases. There was no significant difference (P = .49, .64, and .82, respectively) for the presence of an additional SLAP pathology, the glenoid diameter, the posterior glenoid defect, and the ratio of the posterior glenoid defect size to the glenoid diameter in posterior and anteroposterior instability groups. The increased number of dislocations was associated with increased rHSL length and total arc length (P = .04 and .03, respectively). An additional SLAP lesion in posterior shoulder instabilities was not associated with the bone defect size (P = .29). Conclusion: Although the posterior shoulder instability with only a labral tear is likely to cause a bone defect, we have shown that the instability is not expected to be caused by the bone defect. Therefore, this study points out that only soft tissue repair without considering the bone defect could be promising in this patient group

    Benchmarking countries' technical efficiency using AHP-based weighted slack-based measurement (W-SBM): A cross-national perspective

    The objective of the research is to assess the technical efficiency of national health systems in OECD member countries and to provide ideas to improve the efficiency of health systems in countries that have been identified as having a lower degree of efficiency as a result of the findings. Methods: The technical efficiency scores were calculated using one of the data envelopment analyses (DEA), the Weighted Slack-Based Measure (W-SBM). The Analytic Hierarchy Process was used to establish the aforementioned weights (AHP). Weights are calculated separately for both input and output variables. Results: The technical efficiency of the relevant countries' health systems is around 0.79, according to the data, and just 13 (36.1%) of the 36 countries have a fairly efficient health system. Conclusions: The outcomes of the study were supposed to aid health policymakers and management in improving system efficiency. In addition, since the number of studies examining the health systems of OECD countries with the W-SBM method is limited, it is thought that this study will make an important contribution to the literature

    Evaluation of Porous Film – Peptide Nanoparticle Hybrid Structures as Drug-Releasing Wound Dressing Material

    Nefes figürü (Breath Figure) ile polimerik yüzeylerde desen ve gözenek oluşturma yöntemi oldukça yeni olup, bir polimer litografi tekniği olarak literatürde yerini almıştır. Teknolojik maliyetinin düşük olması, çevre dostu olması ve toksik kimyasallar kullanılmaması gibi avantajları sayesinde biyomalzeme üretiminde özellikle gözenekli membran, yara örtüleri ve doku iskelelerinin üretiminde tercih edilmektedir. Biyouyumlu ve biyobozunur poliüretanlar biyomalzeme üretiminde kullanılan polimerlerin başında gelmektedir. Çalışmada, nefes figürü tekniği ile üretilen poliüretan filmlerin gözenekleri içine kurkumin yüklü difenilalaninamid peptit nanopartiküller entegre edilerek bir hibrit yara örtü malzemesi dizayn edilmiştir. Biyouyumluluğu, kimyasal olarak modifiye edilebilirliği, kolay ve ucuz sentezlenebilirliği, olağanüstü̈ dayanıklılığı, termal ve kimyasal stabiliteleri sayesinde peptit nanopartiküller biyomedikal uygulamalarda özellikle ilaç salım uygulamalarında sıklıkla kullanılmaktadır. Kurkumin düşük molekül ağırlıklı bir fenolik bitki bileşenidir. Antioksidan, antienflamatuar, antibakteriyel ve antiviral gibi farmakolojik özelliklerinden dolayı yara tedavilerinde etken madde olarak kullanılmaktadır. Deneysel çalışmalar kapsamında, farklı BF parametreleri ile üretilen poliüretan filmler ışık mikroskobu ve taramalı elektron mikroskobu (SEM) kullanılarak karakterize edilmiş ve morfolojik özellikleri bakımından yara örtü malzemesi olmaya en uygun aday seçilmiştir. Hazırlanan kurkumin yüklü peptit (FFA/Ccm) nanopartiküller zayıflatılmış toplam yansıma – Fourier dönüşümlü kızılötesi (ATR-FTIR) spektroskopisi ve elektron mikroskopisi ile karakterize edilmiştir. FFA/Ccm nanopartiküllerin kurkumin yükleme kinetikleri UV-görünür bölge spektrofotometrisi ile değerlendirilmiştir. Poliüretan filmin gözenekleri içine FFA/Ccm nanopartiküllerin gömülmesi ile elde edilen hibrit yara örtüsünün morfolojik analizleri SEM ile ve kurkumin salım kinetikleri UV-görünür bölge spektrofotometrisi ile incelenmiştir. Son olarak, hibrit yara örtüsünün sitotoksisite testleri L929 fare fibroblast hücre hattında MTT yöntemiyle değerlendirilmiştir. Geliştirilen hibrit yara örtü malzemesinin biyomedikal uygulamalarda kullanımı gelecek vadetmektedir.Breath Figure (BF), which is used to create patterns and pores on polymeric surfaces, is a polymer lithography technique. It is preferred in the production of biomaterials, especially porous membranes, wound dressings and tissue scaffolds, thanks to its advantages such as low technological cost, environmental friendliness and non-toxic chemicals. Biodegradable and biocompatible polyurethanes (PU) are the leading polymers used in biomaterial fabrication. In this study, porous PU films are fabricated with the BF method. Curcumin-loaded diphenylalanine (FFA/Ccm) peptide nanoparticles are integrated into the pores of films. Peptide nanoparticles are frequently used in biomedical applications, especially in drug release, thanks to their biocompatibility, chemical modifiability, inexpensive synthesis, and thermal and chemical stability. Curcumin is a natural phenolic compound. It is used as an active agent in wound treatments due to its pharmacological activities such as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antiviral. Within the scope of experimental studies, PU films produced with different BF parameters were characterized using light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The most suitable candidate for wound dressing material was evaluated in terms of their morphological features. Characterization of FFA/Ccm NPs was performed by attenuated total reflectance – Fourier transfrom infrared (ATR-FTIR) spectroscopy and SEM. Curcumin loading kinetics of nanoparticles were evaluated by UV-visible spectrophotometry. Morphological analyzes of the hybrid wound dressing obtained by embedding NPs in the pores of the PU film were investigated by SEM. Curcumin release kinetics of hybrid wound dressing was investigated by UV-visible spectrophotometry. Finally, the cytotoxicity of the hybrid wound dressing was evaluated by the MTT method. The use of the developed hybrid material as a wound dressing in biomedical applications is promising

    Poly(vinyl chloride) Derived Food Packaging Applications with Antioxidative and Anticancer Properties

    Novel poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) polymer derivatives based on the natural antioxidants vanillic acid, cinnamic acid, coumaric acid, caffeic acid, and naringin were prepared and characterized for their chemical structures, molecular weights, thermal and mechanical properties, and antioxidant characteristics toward linseed oil. Oxidation delay times (induction periods) were prolonged from 1 to 6 days beyond the pristine PVC, with the naringin-based derivative being the most effective. Biological activities of the PVC derivatives were determined and showed the substituted PVC polymers effectively inhibited the formation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the MCF-7 cell line according to the following sequence: cinnamic acid ≥ caffeic acid ≥ vanillic acid = naringin ≥ coumaric acid, with only a minimal effect on healthy L929 cells. These results indicate that the derivatives produced in this study have potential applications as active packaging materials for food and as antibacterial/anticancer biomaterials in areas such as tissue engineering

    Design and Experimental Validation of an Adaptive Landing Gear for Safe Landing on Uneven Grounds of VTOL UAVs in the Context of Lightweight and Fast Adaptations

    One of the most fundamental problems of rotary-wing aircraft that can take off and land vertically is that they cannot land safely when the ground on which they will land is too sloped. In case they have to make their landing, they inevitably face the risk of rolling over. The main source of this problem is that these vehicles have fixed landing gear. In this study, an important solution proposal is presented by performing an adaptive passive landing gear design and control for a four-rotor UAV with low takeoff weight, within the framework of the principle of fast adaptation to the ground, low cost, and weight. The experimental studies’ results indicated the usefulness of the proposed landing gear. This adaptive landing gear, produced within the scope of this study, has a total mass of 170 g, and it got the UAV to safely land on both sloped surfaces with 15 degrees and randomly uneven surfaces
