Evaluation of Relationship Between SOD1 50-bp Deletion Gene Polymorphism, Cu, Zn Level, and Viscosity in Postmenopausal Osteoporosis Patients with Vertebral Fractures
Oxidative stress plays a role in the pathogenesis of bone loss, causing low bone mineral density (BMD) and associated osteoporotic fractures. In our study, we aimed to investigate the relationship of SOD1 50-bp insertion(Ins)/deletion(Del) polymorphism that is involved in oxidative stress metabolism, Cu and Zn element concentrations, and plasma viscosity level, with postmenopausal osteoporosis and related vertebral fractures. The study included 167 voluntary individuals. The 50-bp Ins/Del polymorphism of SOD1 was determined by allele-specific PCR. Plasma Cu and Zn levels were measured by atomic absorption spectrophotometry (AAS). The plasma viscosity was determined using the Harkness Capillary Viscometer device. In our study, the distribution of SOD1 promoter 50-bp Ins/Del polymorphism did not indicate a significant difference between the groups and in postmenopausal osteoporosis patients with and without fractures (p > 0.05). The Ins/Ins genotype was found to be common in individuals in both groups. The Cu and Zn levels of the study group were found to be between the normal reference values (p > 0.05). It was determined that plasma viscosity increased significantly in the group of osteoporotic patients and in patients with postmenopausal osteoporosis with fractures (p < 0.01). In addition, plasma viscosity was found to significantly increase in patients with Ins/Ins genotype and fractures (p < 0.01). Postmenopausal osteoporosis and associated vertebral fracture were found not to be directly related to SOD1 50-bp polymorphism and Cu and Zn element levels. Plasma viscosity levels were found to increase due to the increase in oxidative stress products. Further studies are needed to clarify the roles and relationships of SOD genes and trace elements in the development of postmenopausal osteoporosis and vertebral fracture
Carter-Thomason Operation On Patient With Hysterectomized Vaginal Cuff Prolapsus: A Case Report
Today, while human life expectancy is getting longer, the life expectancy of women is getting longer. Women continue their lives more
effectively. The possibility of vaginal cuff prolapse increases with age-related weakening of the pelvic tissue and after hysterectomy
operations with increasing numbers. Therefore, the need for additional surgery is also increasing. Carter-Thomason operation is a surgical
method that eliminates uterine prolapse in which round ligaments are elevated. Our 80-year-old female patient, who had undergone vaginal
hysterectomy about 5 years ago, underwent laparotomy Carter-Thomason operation due to chronic vaginal prolapse. The reason for our
application of this method was the observation of adhesions to the pelvis and sacrum due to the previous hysterectomy, and the opening of
these adhesions, so the round ligament remnants from the hysterectomy were suspended in the abdominal fascia. The reason for presenting
our case report is; although this method is used in patients with uterine prolapse, the Carter-Thomason operation technique is not used in
patients with vaginal cuff prolapse. Since this method is rarely used, we planned to discuss the Carter-Thomason operation in this case, in
the light of the latest literatüre
Kapsaisin Katkılı Tris Sulandırıcı Kullanılarak Koç Spermasının Dondurularak Saklanması
In this study, it was designed to reveal the effects of capsaicin on oxidative stress and freezability of ram semen. Ejaculates were taken from Sönmez rams and divided into five specimens and diluted with extender at different rates (4 mM, 2 mM, 1 mM, 500 μM) with and without capsaicin (control; C). Semen samples were thawed with a 37°C water bath for 30 seconds for post-thawed analysis. At the end of the study, sperm motility and kinetic parameters, plasma membrane acrosome integrity (PMAI), mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP), DNA damage, oxidant and antioxidant parameters were analyzed. A decrease was observed in the groups containing capsaicin compared to the C in terms of progressive, total motility and kinetic parameters (p<0.05). Besides, positive results were not obtained DNA integrity, PMAI and MMP (p<0.05). In conclusion; it was determined that capsaicin added to Tris extender did not have a positive effect on oxidative stress and freezing of ram semen.
Evaluation the Storage Stability of Crab Apple (Malus floribunda) Anthocyanins, a Natural Antioxidant Colorant, in Turkish Delights
In this study, the usability of crab apple (Malus floribunda), which can be consumed as food but has limited economic use, as a natural colorant in Turkish delight was investigated. Crab apple concentrate was added to Turkish delight at a rate of 1.83% during production. Produced Turkish delight were stored at 22, 28 and 35 oC for 6 months and analyzed some physicochemical and biochemical parameters. With the increase in storage temperature and time, there were no significant changes in the titratable acidity compared to the initial values. As the storage temperature and time increased, the L*, a*, C* values of all samples decreased, while the b* and h values increased. The increase in temperature and time during the 6-month storage period caused a significant decrease in total phenolic, total monomeric anthocyanin and antioxidant activity values. Degradation of crab apple anthocyanins during storage occurred according to first-order reaction kinetics. The degradation rate constants of anthocyanin in Turkish delight stored at 22, 28 and 35 °C were determined as -4.2x10-3 days-1, -8.7x10-3 days-1 and -14.2x10-3 days-1, respectively. According to the results obtained, the addition of crab apple juice concentrate gave both desired color and functional properties to Turkish delight
The effect of oxidative stress on the reproductive performance in Hair Goats
Small ruminants make better use of pastures with low grass yield and poor vegetation and therefore con-tribute significantly to the country’s economy. In order to achieve maximum yield from these animals, it is necessary to optimize nutrition and minimize stress factors. Oxidative stress affects the normal functioning of many physiological systems including fertility. This study was carried out to determine oxidative stress with regard to effect of antioxidants on fertility in hair goat in October and May. In this study, oxidative stress index (OSI), total oxidation level (TOS) and total antioxidant (TAS) levels were investigated in 20 male and 100 female hair goats during the breeding season (October) and out-of-season (May). Females between the ages of 2-6 years and male hair goats aged 2-4 years were used in the study. The correlation between TAS, TOS, and OSI and fertility was evaluated according to gender and season. TAS, TOS and OSI values in female hair goats were 1.28 µmol/L, 1.34 µmol/L; and 11.02 µmol/L in October and 7.13 µmol/L; 0.87 µmol/L and 0.53 µmol/L in May, respectively; as for male hair goats 1.32 µmol/L, 1.44 µmol/L and 4.24 µmol/L in October and 8.84 µmol/L; 0.32 µmol/L, and 0.63 µmol/L in May, respectively. Seasonal differences between genders and calving and infertile groups were found (P=0,001). As a result, while the increase in TOS level causes a decrease in offspring yield in hair goats, it has been concluded that the increase in TAS level positively affects the offspring’s productivity
Modeling of Electric Vehicles as A Load of the Distribution Grid
Electric vehicles (EVs) are expected to reduce carbon emissions from transportation. For this reason, many vehicle manufacturers, countries and international organizations develop their energy and transportation policies in this direction and also support them with practices. As a result of the policies implemented and developments in battery technologies, serious increases are expected in the sales of the EV sector. However, there should be sufficient charging stations for EV charging. The increase in charging stations is expected to cause some positive and negative effects on the grid. In order for electric vehicles to be more acceptable in terms of power systems, it is necessary to understand what kind of electrical character they show. In this article, EV electrical modeling is performed over a charging period by Monte Carlo Simulation using the actual charging data of some EV models charged in a single phase 7, 2 kW-240 V charger. The generated probabilistic model was validated by comparing it with real data. Thus, a reliable modeling has been presented for EV, which is a new load in power systems
Promoting Pro-Environmental Behavior in Policymaking: A Text-Mining Approach for Literature Review
The impact of pro-environmental behavior on policymaking has been an exciting area of research. While the relationship between pro-environmental behavior and policymaking has been explored in numerous studies, there needs to be more synthesis on this topic. This is the first text-mining study of pro-environmental effects in which policymaking is a significant factor. In response, this study, for the first time, takes a novel approach by using text mining in R programming to analyze 30 publications from the Scopus database on pro-environmental behavior in policymaking, highlighting major research themes and prospective research areas for future investigation. Results from text mining yielded 10 topic models, which are presented with a synopsis of the published research and a list of the primary authors, as well as a posterior probability via latent Dirichlet allocation (LDA). Additionally, the study conducts a trend analysis of the top 10 journals with the highest impact factor, considering the influence of each journal’s mean citation. The study offers an overview of the impacts of pro-environmental behavior in policymaking, showing the most relevant and frequently discussed themes, introduces the scientific visualization of papers published in the Scopus database, and proposes future study directions. These findings can help researchers and environmental specialists better understand how pro-environmental behavior can be fostered more effectively through policymaking
Determination of acute toxicity of sodium pyrithione and its exposure effects on antioxidant enzymes activity, immune status, and histopathological changes in common carp
This study determined the LC50-24 h value of sodium pyrithione (NaPT) on Cyprinus carpio at 102.7643 µg/L. Then, 60 healthy fish were randomly allocated into 6 exposure groups, each receiving varying levels of NaPT for different durations (control goup = 0% µg/L NaPT for 24 and 96 h; NaPT-10 = 10% of the LC50-24 h dose of NaPT for 24 and 96 h; NaPT-20 = 20% of the LC50-24 h dose of NaPT for 24 and 96 h). As a result, the increase in malondialdehyde (MDA) levels and the decrease in catalase (CAT), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activities in the gill and liver tissue in both duration and dose groups were found to be statistically significant. In addition, NaPT increased serum tumour necrosis factor (TNF-α), interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β), interleukin-6 (IL-6) levels in both dose groups for both durations. The results revealed that NaPT exposure caused shortening of gill tissue lamellae and vacuolisation (separation) of the secondary lamellar epithelium. Likewise, NaPT exposure was responsible for vacuolisation and hepatocellular degeneration in liver tissue in hepatocytes. In conclusion, the toxicity study, antioxidant enzyme activities, cytokine immune response, and histopathological results indicate that NaPT has a toxic effect on the carp
On the Frobenius norm of commutator of Cauchy-Toeplitz matrix and exchange matrix
Matrix commutator and anticommutator play an important role in mathematics, mathematical physic, and quantum physic. The commutator and anticommutator of two n × n complex matrices A and B are defined by [A,B] = AB − BA and (A,B) = AB + BA, respectively. Cauchy-Toeplitz matrix and exchange matrix are two of the special matrices and they have excellent properties. In this study, we mainly focus on Frobenius norm of the commutator of Cauchy-Toeplitz matrix and exchange matrix. Moreover, we give upper and lower bounds for the Frobenius norm of the commutator of Cauchy-Toeplitz matrix and exchange matrix
A look at the definition of the concept of Sufi and characteristics of the Sufi in the context of Cemal Khalwatı’s Risalah as-sufıyya
Jamal Khalwati is among the most productive sūfīs. In his works, he generally included topic such as the ishāri exegesis and interpretation of sūrahs and verses, the reservation and explanation of some hadiths as in the tradition of forty hadiths, dhikr and its forms of practice; kalimah al-tawhid, athwār al-sab’a, and the etiquette and manners of the tariqah. In addition to the aforementioned scholarly and practical issues within the framework of tariqah activities, Jamal Khalwati also touched upon sūfīs, who are the practitioners and human elements of tariqahs, in his work titled Risalah al-Sūfīyyah, he dealt in detail with the definition of the concept of sūfī and the qualities a sūfī should possess. In the aforementioned work, Jamal Khalwati defined the definition of a sūfī in verse. According to him, the basic condition of being a sūfī is to be a person of zuhd, faqr, faithfulness and love. In addition, the sūfī should pay attention to the purity of the inner and outer worlds and observe the rules of the shari’ah to the utmost. Therefore, these concepts form the basis of his definition. It can be said that Jamal Khalwati’s definition of a sūfī is essentially a model of a person with good morals in general, rather than a model of a person who is only a follower of the tariqah
