    No full text
Background: The global nursing shortage is complex and multifaceted. Despite the policy of increasing the number of nurses, concerns about the sustainability of the nursing workforce in Turkey continue. Aim: To evaluate the relationship between unemployment anxiety, job satisfaction, and migration attitudes among Turkish nursing candidates. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted with 1100 nursing candidates between April and June 2022. The data gathered from the "Personal Form, Job Satisfaction, and Brain Drain Attitudes Scale" were analyzed using logistic regression and decision tree analysis. Results: Of the participants, 67.1% were female, and the mean age was 22.6 ± 1.7 years. Being male (OR = 1.317, 95% Cl 0.994-1.743) having a low income (OR = 1.754, 95% Cl 1.334-2.306), feeling insecure about the future (OR = 2.340, 95% Cl 1.312-4.175), expecting a lower wage than desired (OR = 2.015, 95% Cl 1.132-3.586), and employment precariousness (OR = 1.786, 95% Cl 1.355-2.353) increase the possibility of experiencing high unemployment anxiety. On the other hand, family support for living abroad (OR = 0.579, 95% CI 0.408-0.821) and job satisfaction (OR = 0.799, 95% CI 0.692-0.921) decrease unemployment anxiety (p < 0.05). According to the results of the decision tree analysis, the host country's pull factors are the best predictors of the nursing candidates' intention to work abroad as nurses (p < 0.05). Conclusion: The increasing prevalence of unemployment anxiety and migration tendencies among nursing candidates requires the evaluation of policies aimed at increasing the number of nursing graduates in Turkey

Independent or chain-affiliated hotel? The dilemma of hotel employees

    Get PDF
Purpose – This study examines the relationships between hospitality work experience factors and employees’ preference to work in a chain or independent hotel. Methodology/Design/Approach – Quantitative data were collected from hotel employees in Bulgaria who worked in independent and chain hotels. A total of 150 valid responses were used to conduct factor and regression analyses. Findings – The results illustrate that chain hotels provide a better set of operational standards and guidelines, more and better training than independent ones. They also give more opportunities to their employees for career development, better job security and work experience, but competition among employees in chain hotels is higher than in independent properties, and their employees’ salaries are not always more competitive. The factor analysis showed the existence of five factors. Additionally, ‘Communication and decision-making’ and ‘Resources and planning’ were more important than ‘Remuneration and working conditions’ and ‘Training and development’ in shaping employees’ preferences. However, ‘Workload and stress’ was not an important driver of respondents’ choice. Finally, demographic variables had no role in shaping respondents’ preferences. Originality of the research – This paper is one of the first to examine the factors that influence hotel employees’ preferences for working in chains or independent hotels

    No full text
Purpose: This research aims to test the measurement invariance of the consumer-based brand equity scale on Turkish and Syrian university students who live together but are from different cultural groups. Research design, data, and methodology: The consumer-based brand equity scale developed by Buil et al. (2008) is applied to the participants. In testing the consumer-based brand equity scale, the Netflix brand, which is considered well-known by both cultural groups, is preferred. It is thought that choosing an internationally recognized brand would facilitate the conduct of this research. Structural invariance and measurement invariance are tested using structural equation modeling. Results: The consumer-based brand equity scale has measurement invariance on Turkish and Syrian university students. Therefore, it has been revealed that the responses of participants from both cultures regarding the Netflix brand are comparable. Conclusion: The findings of the study provide clues for practitioners to review their distribution strategies. As a matter of fact, cultural studies conducted in different countries are common. Still, the originality of this study is ensured by the profile of participants who live in the same country but come from different countrie

    No full text
It is very important to determine the crops in the agricultural field in a short time and accurately. Thanks to the satellite images obtained from remote sensing sensors, information can be obtained on many subjects such as the detection and development of agricultural products and annual product forecasting. In this study, it is aimed to automatically detect agricultural crops (corn and cotton) by using Sentinel-1 and Landsat-8 satellite image indexes via a new deep learning approach (Deep Transformer Encoder). This work was carried out in several stages, respectively. In the first stage, a pilot area was determined to obtain Sentinel-1 and Landsat-8 satellite images of agricultural crops used in this study. In the second stage, the coordinates of 100 sample points from this pilot area were taken with the help of GPS and these coordinates were then transferred to Sentinel-1 and Landsat-8 satellite images. In the next step, reflection and backscattering values were obtained from the pixels of the satellite images corresponding to the sample points of these agricultural crops. While creating the data sets of satellite images, the months of June, July, August and September for the years 2016–2021, when the development and harvesting times of agricultural products are close to each other, were preferred. The image data set used in the study consists of a total of 434 images for Sentinel-1 satellite and a total of 693 images for Landsat-8. At the last stage, the datasets obtained from different satellite images were evaluated in three different categories for crop identification with the aid of Deep Transformer Encoder approach. These are: (1-) Crop identification with only Sentinel-1 dataset, (2-) Crop identification only with Landsat-8 dataset, (3-) Crop identification with both Sentinel-1 and Landsat-8 datasets. The results showed that 85%, 95% and 87.5% accuracy values were obtained from the band parameters of Sentinel-1 dataset, Landsat-8 dataset and Sentinel-1&Landsat-8 datasets, respectivel

Early puberty signs lead to an increase in anxiety levels of parents and children. The aim of this study was to investigate the quality of life and anxiety levels of girls and their mothers who were admitted to a pediatric endocrinology clinic with concerns about early puberty. Girls and their mothers who were admitted to endocrinology outpatient clinic with concerns about early puberty were compared to healthy control group. Screen for Child Anxiety Related Emotional Disorders (SCARED) parent form, Quality of Life for Children Scale (PedsQL) parent form, and Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) were administered to the mothers. Children were evaluated with the Schedule for Afective Disorders and Schizophrenia for School-Age Children (Kiddie-SADS Lifetime Version) (K-SADS-PL). The study sample consisted of 92 girls and 62 of them were administered to clinic with concerns about early puberty. There were 30 girls in early puberty group (group 1), 32 girls were in the normal development group (group 2), and 30 were in the healthy control group (group 3). The anxiety level of group 1 and group 2 was signifcantly higher, and their quality of life was signifcantly lower when compared to group 3 (p<0.001). Mother’s anxiety level was found signifcantly higher in group 2 (p<0.001). It has shown that anxiety level and quality of life of children were associated with anxiety level of mothers and the current Tanner stage (r=0.302, p<0.005). Conclusion: Mothers and children who have concerns about early puberty are negatively afected when early puberty is a possibility. For this reason, educating parents will prevent negative impacts of this situation on children. At the same time, it will decrease health burden
