Towards an Analytical Methodology for Vocalists' Live Movements in Extreme Metal
In studies of extreme metal, vocalist gestures represent a way to re-examine musical meaning within the style, methodologically bridging music analysis and ethnography. Our article studies vocalist movements on stage as a multipurpose interaction with music, closely examining audiovisual texts from live DVDs, YouTube still shots, and open-ended Google Image searches that uncover patterns. We first establish a key relationship between physical movements and vowel formants. Subtle changes in body position anticipate processes of intensification and cognitive thresholds around difficulty, and vowel phonetics restrict gestural imitations of lyrics. Lastly, we analyze genre-specific mannerisms that reflect ideals of authenticity. The results show kinesthetic evidence of musical structure and expression and provide a launching point for distinguishing which gestures are generalizable across genres and performers and which are particular to individual style
Model Checking Using Large Language Models—Evaluation and Future Directions
Large language models (LLMs) such as ChatGPT have risen in prominence recently, leading to the need to analyze their strengths and limitations for various tasks. The objective of this work was to evaluate the performance of large language models for model checking, which is used extensively in various critical tasks such as software and hardware verification. A set of problems were proposed as a benchmark in this work and three LLMs (GPT-4, Claude, and Gemini) were evaluated with respect to their ability to solve these problems. The evaluation was conducted by comparing the responses of the three LLMs with the gold standard provided by model checking tools. The results illustrate the limitations of LLMs in these tasks, identifying directions for future research. Specifically, the best overall performance (ratio of problems solved correctly) was 60%, indicating a high probability of reasoning errors by the LLMs, especially when dealing with more complex scenarios requiring many reasoning steps, and the LLMs typically performed better when generating scripts for solving the problems rather than solving them directly.</p

Pets and private renting:a rapid evidence review of the barriers, benefits, and challenges
Pet ownership or animal companionship is increasingly found to be beneficial to mental and physical well-being. Despite this, housing situations and tenure, such as living in a private rental, can impact the ability to realise these benefits. Pet ownership is seldom the primary focus of discussion in housing research to date. This paper brings this issue to the forefront of housing research, recognising it as a crucial component of the overall experience within the private rented sector (PRS). We present findings from a rapid evidence assessment of the existing international evidence to provide a broad understanding of pet ownership in the PRS and, based on this review, set out a novel typology of the economic costs and benefits of renting to pet-owners. The review involved scrutiny of 51 sources published after 2000, representing the most comprehensive evidence review of the subject to date. We identified the benefits, costs, and management practices associated with allowing pets in rentals across three key stages of the tenancy. This paper highlights the need for a combination of policy measures to facilitate the acceptance of pets in rental properties and sets out a future research agenda to better understand the experience of renting with pets

Climate Change Adaptation in the Built Environment:Transdisciplinary and Innovative Learning
Global climate change is one of the greatest environmental threats facing humanity and it is affecting every country on every continent. Recent evidence confirms a close liaison between climate change induced hazards and the built environment, as the built environment demonstrates a high fragility and vulnerability to hazardous situations. The impact of climate change is particularly pertinent to the built environment given the life expectancy of buildings and the fact that it is essential to adapt the existing built environment to deal with a climate that may be significantly different from that in which it evolved. Coastal regions are highly vulnerable to climate change because, in addition to changes in temperature, precipitation, and more frequent flooding, they will be affected by rising sea levels, wave heights, and accelerated coastal erosion. The built environment exerts considerable influence over coastal communities' local climate and environment. Coastal areas also tend to be highly populated, with many vulnerable urban centres located near the coastal belt. In addressing such challenges, it is important to better understand the impacts of climate change on the built environment and to develop tangible climate adaptation measures for the built environment.<br/
A unified conceptual model of immersive experience in extended reality
The term “immersion” is frequently used to describe and evaluate technologies within the field of extended reality (XR), which encompasses virtual, augmented, and mixed reality. Over the past few decades, extensive research has been conducted on immersion. However, there remains a lack of consistency in how the term is defined and applied in the literature. Additionally, there is no clear and consistent conceptual hierarchy of related terms across different measurement models. To address these issues, this paper explores the multidimensionality of immersion, as well as associated concepts such as presence and involvement. From this, a unified conceptual model of immersive experience is proposed for future studies in XR. The model defines physical presence, social presence, self presence and involvement as the core dimensions of an immersive experience, which arise from sensorimotor, task/motor and narrative engagement. Plausibility, interactivity, and interestingness are identified as key properties of immersive systems and content that fascilitate engagement, each of which is influenced by subjective factors: internal reference, skills/knowledge and personal preference, respectively. This model provides a comprensive framework for researchers to measure immersive experiences more consistently and build a coherent body of research in XR.</p
