On-machine laser polishing of diamond turned metal surfaces

    No full text
An on-machine laser polishing system is developed to suppress the periodic turning marks on diamond turned metal surface. By integrating laser polishing on an ultra-precision machine tool, this method enables high-efficiency non-contact polishing without taking off workpiece from the lathe. Molecular dynamics simulation and experimental validation prove the process’ capability to reduce surface roughness through atomic level material flow from peak to valley. Surface quality has been improved through effective suppression of the diffraction and rainbow effects after laser polishing, demonstrating a high-efficiency, low-cost and clean solution for high-end optical component manufacturing

Multi-stage decision support system for evaluating visual energy performance certificate platforms

    No full text
The energy performance certificate (EPC) has emerged as a pivotal instrument in the United Kingdom's drive for housing energy efficiency. This research presents a comprehensive evaluation of existing EPC platforms using a multi-stage decision support system. In response to the need for effective decision support systems, we propose a novel approach, namely the intuitionistic fuzzy criteria importance assessment (CIMAS)-alternative ranking order method accounting for two-step normalization (AROMAN) method. Through comparative analysis, the study assesses the effectiveness and functionality of various platforms in facilitating energy performance analysis for residential buildings. Among the evaluated platforms, the energy performance certificate visualization platform (EPCDescriptor) emerges as a standout performer, demonstrating superior capabilities in attribute-level analysis, real-time data insights, and strategic pathway visualization of EPC data. EPCDescriptor's unique strengths lie in its ability to provide granular insights into factors influencing EPC ratings, offer real-time data updates for informed decision-making, and visualize strategic pathways for enhancing energy efficiency. The platform stands out among alternatives by offering enhanced capabilities for discrepancy analysis, neighbourhood exploration, and the interpretation of EPC ratings in residential buildings. Furthermore, we present a comparative analysis, managerial implications, and theoretical limitations of the proposed intuitionistic fuzzy CIMAS-AROMAN method, offering valuable insights for stakeholders in the construction and energy sectors. The findings of this research contribute to the advancement of energy performance analysis tools.</p

Maximum correntropy state estimation for complex networks with uncertain inner coupling and amplify-and-forward relays

    No full text
In this paper, the remote state estimation problem is addressed for a class of discrete time-varying nonlinear complex networks subject to non-Gaussian noises, uncertain inner coupling, and amplify-and-forward (AF) relays. The coupling strengths are unknown but belong to predefined intervals, and the measurement signals are transmitted to the remote estimator via AF relays with stochastic channel gains. To effectively deal with the non-Gaussian noises, a novel correntropy-based estimator design index is proposed considering the uncertain inner coupling and the AF relays, and the parameters of the estimator are obtained via recursively maximizing the index through a fixed-point iterative update rule. Furthermore, sufficient conditions are established to guarantee the convergence of the fixed-point approach. Finally, a simulation example is used to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed estimation scheme

An all-dielectric achromatic metalens with high performance in the long-wavelength infrared regime

    No full text
Over recent decades, metasurfaces have achieved significant advancements in the development of integrated and miniaturized optical devices. A notable area of research within this field is the development of metalenses. In this study, we propose a broadband achromatic metalens that operates across a wide wavelength range from 9.6 μm to 11.6 μm. For the initial metalens, based on the geometric phase principle, micro adjustments are made to the dimensions of individual nanopillars to compensate for phase deviations. To efficiently optimize this metalens, we employ a hierarchical iteration strategy that divides the optimization space into overlapping groups, significantly reducing the loss rate and computational effort. Within each group, an improved reptile search algorithm (IRSA) is proposed to find the optimal solution. This algorithm incorporates a quantum mutation strategy to address the issues of premature convergence and imbalance during its search process. The results indicate that the proposed metalens attains an average focusing efficiency of 39.7% and the correction of chromatic aberration is achieved with a coefficient of variation of only 2.7%. This achievement represents a significant advancement in the field of achromatic metalenses.</p
