The problems of detoriated soil, poor and shortage of water conditions affecting the grape production on own rooted vines. There are a large number of rootstocks available in grape cultivation according to different production constraints. Rootstock not only helps in withstanding vineyard in adverse climatic conditions but also help in improving yield and quality of grapes. The rootstock Dogridge became popular among the grape growers due to its capabilities of overcoming abiotic stresses and better stionic combination. The rootstock suitable for one variety in a given location may not be suitable for the same variety on other location. Hence, choice of rootstock is varied among different cultivars. Not AvailableBalanced Bipartite Block (BBPB) designs resistant against the trend are used when the interest of the experimenter is in making comparisons between two sets of treatments that are disjoint, and there is the presence of systematic trend within a block. This paper deals with the bipartite block model incorporating trend component. The general methodology has been described related to BBPB designs incorporating trend effect. The conditions for a BBPB design to be trend resistant are also obtained. Further, methods of constructing trend resistant BBPB designs are discussed. Chaetomium globosum KPC3: An antagonistic fungus against the potato cyst nematode, Globodera rostochiensis
Not AvailableThe potato cyst nematode (Globodera rostochiensis) is one of the most economically important pests of potato (Solanum tuberosum L.), causing significant economic losses worldwide. The identification of biocontrol agents for the sustainable management of G. rostochiensis is crucial. In this study, a potential biocontrol agent, Chaetomium globosum KPC3, was identified based on sequence analysis of the DNA internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region, the translation elongation factor 1-alpha (TEF1-?) gene, and the second largest subunit of the RNA polymerase II (RPB2) gene. The pathogenicity test of C. globosum KPC3 against cysts and second-stage juveniles (J2s) revealed that fungus mycelium fully parasitized the cyst after 72 h of incubation. The fungus was also capable of parasitizing the eggs inside the cysts. The culture filtrate of C. globosum KPC3 caused 98.75% mortality in J2s of G. rostochiensis after 72 h of incubation. The pot experiments showed that the combined application of C. globosum KPC3 as a tuber treatment at a rate of 1 lit kg-1 of tubers and a soil application at a rate of 500 ml kg-1 of farm yard manure (FYM) resulted in significantly lesser reproduction of G. rostochiensis compared to the rest of the treatments. Altogether, C. globosum KPC3 has the potential to be used as a biocontrol agent against G. rostochiensis and can be successfully implemented in integrated pest management programs
Comparative efficacy of seed treatment and foliar application of insecticides against shoot fly (Atherigonna soccata Rond.) infesting wheat

Not AvailableVegetable growers need information on improved cul-
tivars and production practices, and usually tend to
receive this information from informal sources due to
certain constraints. This study describes the information
networks of hill farmers across genders for accessing
data about vegetable cultivation. Through simple random
sampling, two hill districts in Uttarakhand, India, were
chosen and 320 vegetable growers were selected. The
results showed that in comparison to female farmers,
the social networks of male farmers frequently included
formal information sources. The main factors deter-
mining the pattern of information network usage among
women farmers were education, farming experience,
hours dedicated to farming, group membership and
contact with extension agencies, whereas income, land-
holding, access to mobile phones, contact with extension
agencies and frequency of contact affected the infor-
mation network usage among male farmers. The study
gives suggestions for policymakers and programme
planners to bridge the gender divide by devising effective
information dissemination in the hill regions.ICSS
Molecular mechanisms leading to grain Zn accumulation in rice
Not AvailableDeciphering molecular mechanisms vital for identifying key genes associated with high grain Zn in rice. Rice adapted complex strategies for the acquisition of Zn from the rhizosphere, its uptake by roots, its transport from root to shoot, and its movement in shoots, nodes, and leaves to the meristematic tissues and grain. Zn metabolic processes are regulated temporally and spatially by several genes. A few major gene families, viz., zinc-iron regulated proteins, heavy metal ATPases phytosiderophores like nicotinamide, and Yellow Stripe-Like transporters, natural resistance-associated macrophage proteins, and metal tolerance proteins associated with Zn uptake in rice have been characterized. Here, we review recent developments in understanding the molecular mechanism of Zn metabolism in rice and its implications in the development of Zn-biofortified rice varieties.Not Availabl
