Nudging Loan of Children's Books – Quasi-Experimental Evidence from a Library Book Giveaway Program

    No full text
Libraries play a crucial role in providing children with access to reading materials, which is essential for developing reading skills. This paper examines whether a library book giveaway program was effective in increasing parents reading investments in the form of loan of children’s books. The intervention involved “nudging” families sending out invitations to visit their local library, where their child would receive a free book and families would get introduced to library services. Using Danish individual level registry data on loan of books from public libraries, I assess the program’s impact through a difference-in-differences approach based on staggered rollout across three municipalities. Results show no increase in loan of children’s books – neither in advantaged nor disadvantaged families. Given that more intensive book giveaway programs have been successful, these results might reflect that the intervention was too mild or failed to address key barriers to participation

Payroll is an administration system used to process data related to employee payroll in a company, one of which is PT XYZ. PT XYZ is a company engaged in financial technology that has a main service based on electronic payments. Currently, the payroll system at PT XYZ is still done manually using Microsoft Excel. This is inefficient because the time and energy required are greater. Therefore, a new payroll system is needed that can help HRD staff in recapitulating employee attendance for payroll needs. This research was conducted using a qualitative method, namely direct observation of one of the HRD staff who handles employee payroll. The payroll system will later be created using Spreadsheet. Based on the system that has been created, the results obtained are that the new payroll system can help HRD staff in recapitulating employee attendance optimally because the system works automatically. The use of Spreadsheets in the new payroll system can work efficiently because of its ease in saving automatically and can be worked on simultaneously

Price perception is one of the crucial things that influence purchasing decisions, but the price of Citilink tickets at Adisujipto Airport is more expensive than Yogyakarta International Airport with the same route and airline, the purpose of this study is to determine the effect of price perception on purchasing decisions where in this study using quantitative methods by distributing questionnaires to 97 samples whose data will be processed using a simple linear regression test to determine the level of influence between variables, a t test to measure significant relationships between variables, and a determination coefficient test to measure how much influence is caused. The results showed that the simple linear regression equation obtained was Y = 6.390 + 0.808X, with a correlation coefficient value of 0.808. The t test produced a t count value of 12.098> 1.984, with a significance level of 0.000 <0.05, so H1 was accepted. The results of the determination coefficient calculation show that price perception has an influence of 60.6% on purchasing decisions, while the remainder, namely 39.4%, is influenced by other variables not discussed in this study

The global energy crisis necessitates the development of sustainable alternative fuels, one of which is biomass-based biopelets. Rice husks, an abundant agricultural waste, have significant potential for conversion into biopelets; however, their high moisture content can hinder combustion efficiency and storage. This study aims to evaluate the effects of torrefaction at 300°C and the addition of natural zeolite as an adsorbent on the quality of the resulting biopelets. The experimental method involves variations in rice husk particle size (60 mesh and 80 mesh) and zeolite concentrations of 0 g, 2.5 g, 5 g, and 7.5 g. The key parameters analyzed include moisture content and calorific value, measured using the gravimetric method and bomb calorimeter, respectively. The results show that torrefaction effectively reduces biopelet moisture content, with samples containing higher zeolite levels exhibiting lower moisture content. Meanwhile, calorific value decreases as zeolite concentration increases, likely due to changes in porosity and energy density. These findings highlight the need to balance moisture content and calorific value in biopelet formulation to optimize combustion performance and storage, offering promising potential for the development of renewable fuel from agricultural waste. The global energy crisis necessitates the development of sustainable alternative fuels, one of which is biomass-based biopelets. In the development of healthcare infrastructure projects, hospitals play a critical role and frequently encounter challenges in managing time and cost, including risks of delays and cost overruns. This study aims to analyze the performance of the Critical Center and Support Services Building construction project at Dr. Moewardi General Hospital Surakarta using the Earned Value Analysis (EVA) method, as well as to optimize time and cost through the Time Cost Trade Off (TCTO) method.  The results of the EVA show that the project experienced schedule deviations from the initial plan. In the 16th week, the CV was Rp0,00 and CPI was 1,00, indicating that the budget aligned with the initial plan. However, the SV was (-)Rp4.474.490.995,78 and SPI was 0,84, indicating a delay in project implementation. The estimated cost to complete the project from week 16 was Rp67.574.741.112,50. A calculation in the 19th week also showed that the budget remained on track, although the project continued to experience delays. Subsequently, TCTO optimization was carried out using several alternative scenarios on critical path activities, including adding 1 hour, 2 hours, and 3 hours of overtime. Using Primavera P6 software, crash duration and crash cost were calculated for each scenario. The optimization results showed that the scenario of adding one hour of overtime was the most efficient, as it accelerated the project with an additional cost of Rp12.043.259,31 a cost efficiency of -0,013%, and a reduction in project duration by 6,05 days with a time efficiency of 3,071%. This research demonstrates that the combined application of EVA and TCTO methods can effectively support project completion on time and within a reasonable budget. Time Cost Trade Off (TCTO).
