The Stance of Semi-Popular Articles about Language Learning
Get PDFThis study aims to analyze how the writers of semi-popular science articles express their stances when writing about language learning discipline. This research used corpus-based analysis approaches with the help of AntConc application to analyze the stance marker in the corpus. The analysis is conducted by adopting Hyland's framework of stance. The data source of this research is 81 articles about language learning from various university and institution web magazines. The result found that in expressing their stance, the writers of semi-popular science articles employ many hedges in form of the modal verb to mark their tentative and carefulness, booster in the form of reporting verb to increase the newsworthiness of the articles, attitude marker in the form of a positive adjective to express their positive attitude toward the study, and self-mention in the form of the singular pronoun when referring to researcher and plural pronoun when referring to the writer themselves
THE ALPHA GENERATION PERSPECTIVE ON THE USE OF TECHNOLOGY IN FILTERING ACTUAL INFORMATION THROUGH SOCIAL MEDIA
Get PDFThis study aims to analyze the Alpha Generation's perspective on the use of technology to filter actual information through social media. Generation Alpha refers to individuals born between 2010 and 2025, who grow up and live in an increasingly connected digital age. In an information-abundant environment, it is important to understand how these young people use technology to access and filter current information. This study uses narrative inquiry. This research was conducted with 3 participants, with an average age of 13-15 years. This research is expected to be able to examine the perspective of the alpha generation in exploring social media to filter actual information. This research aims to help academics, practitioners, and other stakeholders better understand and support young people to deal with the challenges of 'bird' information in today's rapidly developing digital era by providing a deeper understanding of the use of technology and social media in filtering information actual information. This study is grounded in the theory of digital literacy levels proposed by Lankshear and Knobel (2011: 167). The study found three 13-15-year-old children of the Alpha generation, who value accessibility and speed in obtaining information through social media. They value personalization and engage in online conversations, demonstrating critical skills in filtering information, verifying information, and contributing to social change
Imagery and Theme on the Two Poems (Hanging Fire and the Waking)
Get PDFThis research in entitled 'Imagery and Theme on the Two Poems (Hanging Fire and The Waking)'. The researcher has deeply interest to do study to two poems above to expose the imagery and theme in each poem. Because of this research we can more understand the poem and get the real meaning that the poet tries to picture. The poem entitled 'Hanging Fire and The Waking' is employed to illustrate problems. In this research, the researcher analyzes imagery and theme based on their context and intention of the speakers in using them. The researcher formulated two major problems in the study, those are; (1) what kinds of imagery can be found in the two poems, and (2) what are themes can be found in the two. The method that the researcher uses in this research is descriptive qualitative, As with the use of the theory, however the amount of literature varies by type of qualitative design. The researcher used a descriptive research method and the data in this study were described descriptively based on the factswhile the researcher uses the theory about narrative poetry, imagery and theme from Robert DiYanni, Waluyo, Pradopo,etc. After completing this researcher and put in written form, the researcher comes to conclusion that the two poems above have same major meaning that is about social and private life of human
Students' Perception of English Learning toward Their Current Professions

Globalization era demands employees who have a proficient English skill so that international business activity can run well. University as a place which provides a skillful employee is forced to create a practical English learning. However, it is not an easy task to bridge the demand and reality of teaching and learning in the classroom. Based on pre-observation, it was revealed that some of students were not able to implement the knowledge that they have learnt into their current work. Related to the issue, researchers conducted research to find out students' perception on what they learn related to English study and how it affects their current job or profession. The participant of this research were the seventh semester students of English Literature of Pamulang University. They were chosen as participants using purposive sampling. This research itself was conducted at English Letters Department of Pamulang University from December 2020 to January 2021. In conducting this research, qualitative research was chosen as research design. There was one type of data collecting techniques which is questionnaire. The data were analyzed simultaneously using Creswell's (2007) theory called data analysis spiral in order to get a strong and comprehensive conclusion toward the issue.

Using Diary in Improving Students' Grammar Ability
Get PDFGrammar is the teaching and learning of grammar. Grammar helps us in several phenomena. For example, if we want to translate a sentence into English or vice versa, we need grammar so that the meaning of the sentence is clear and easy to understand. Grammar is also one aspect of language that is difficult to teach. Therefore, the teacher must have a solution so that learning grammar becomes more interesting and easy to understand. The teacher must have some good grammar teaching techniques, especially the past tense. A study to determine the effectiveness of teaching English Past Tense through the diary writing technique was conducted in the third grade of an elementary school in Bogor. Data collection was carried out through observation, interview, teaching and learning process, pre-test and post-test. The implementation of the technique is that students must write down their activities that they have done. Then the results of their writing will be analyzed together. Using this technique makes it easier for the students to understand and use the past tense correctly. Students can also do a post-test which is a means to evaluate teaching and learning techniques and processes properly and to be more active in the teaching and learning process. The post-test results show that teaching English past tense through diary writing technique is a good solution to improve students' understanding of past tense.
 
The Realization of Speech Act of Requesting: An Analysis of Movie Freedom Writers
Get PDFLanguage learners are required to be able to use the language they learn in an appropriate context. By mastering pragmatic competence, it is expected that language learners comprehend how to use the language and how to interpret the meaning of the language in a particular setting. This study attempts to explore the realization of the speech act of requesting in a movie entitled Freedom Writers. To be specific, this study aims to figure out strategy types and modification devices of requesting used by the characters in the movie as well as its pedagogical implication for English language learning. By employing a case study design, this study analyzed the script of the movie and classified the request under the framework of A Cross-Cultural Study of Speech Act Realization Patterns (CCSARP). The findings reveal that mood derivable and scope stating are the most frequent strategies used and regarding the modification devices, the characters tend to use internal modifiers such as syntactic downgraders and upgraders. The results of the study suggest teacher to provide some authentic materials to introduce students to the real use of language. Further studies about speech acts focusing on the pedagogical implication are encouraged to be conducted.

PARTISIPASI POLITIK PEREMPUAN DALAM PEMILU KADA 2024 DI PROVINSI LAMPUNG: Women's Political Participation in the 2024 Elections (Regional Head Elections) in Lampung Province
No full textThis study aims to analyze women's political participation and representation in the 2024 elections in Lampung Province. A qualitative descriptive methodology was used, focusing on literature from official sources, such as government agencies, NGOs, and research institutions. The theory of women's political participation highlights the importance of active involvement in politics to achieve gender equality and ensure that women's interests are represented in public policy. Conversely, representative theory by Hanna Pitkin emphasizes the need for alignment between societal demographics and political representation. The findings indicate that women's representation in Lampung is stagnating, significantly below the national quota target, reflecting a stagnant participation trend that may decline if existing challenges are not addressed. Women's involvement in politics is also hindered by male dominance within party structures. Inhibiting factors include socio-cultural norms, limited access to education and political information, and a lack of opportunities and resources. This research aims to enhance understanding of women's rights and roles in local politics and encourage their political engagement.

Metodologi deskriptif kualitatif digunakan, dengan fokus pada literatur dari sumber resmi, seperti lembaga pemerintah, LSM, dan lembaga penelitian. Teori partisipasi politik perempuan menyoroti pentingnya keterlibatan aktif dalam politik untuk mencapai kesetaraan gender dan memastikan bahwa kepentingan perempuan terwakili dalam kebijakan publik. Sebaliknya, teori representatif oleh Hanna Pitkin menekankan perlunya keselarasan antara demografi masyarakat dan representasi politik. Temuan menunjukkan bahwa keterwakilan perempuan di Lampung stagnan, secara signifikan di bawah target kuota nasional, mencerminkan tren partisipasi yang stagnan yang dapat menurun jika tantangan yang ada tidak ditangani. Keterlibatan perempuan dalam politik juga terhambat oleh dominasi laki-laki dalam struktur partai. Faktor-faktor penghambat termasuk norma sosial-budaya, terbatasnya akses ke pendidikan dan informasi politik, serta kurangnya peluang dan sumber daya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pemahaman tentang hak-hak dan peran perempuan dalam politik lokal dan mendorong keterlibatan politik mereka.

The Community Service Program (KKK) in Mauk Barat Village aims to improve the community's economy through the empowerment of the micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) sector. One of the main programs implemented is training on making pempek innovated with milkfish as the main ingredient, which is a local natural resource. This program is designed to utilize the potential of milkfish as a raw material for high-nutrition and high-market-value products, while also enhancing the community's skills in fish processing. The steps taken by the team involve three stages: Socialization, Practice & Packaging, and Marketing Education. Socialization involves raising awareness of the importance of entrepreneurship to improve the economy. Practice & Packaging includes training on making pempek from milkfish and packaging it into a highly marketable product. Marketing education teaches how to sell both online and offline. The training is conducted using a participatory method, actively involving the community in every stage, from planning to implementation. As a result of the training, participants successfully applied the skills they acquired in independently producing milkfish pempek, guided by experienced instructors, and the community began to develop home-based businesses, which led to increased economic income. This program contributes to improving the village economy through the development of MSMEs based on local potential."

PEMBINAAN DAN PENGAWASAN JASA USAHA PARIWISATA : MELAKSANAKAN STANDARISASI RESIKO DI KOTA TANGERANG
No full textPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi dan menganalisis standar usaha restoran dalam konteks pariwisata, termasuk kualifikasi dan klasifikasi usaha berdasarkan aspek produk, pelayanan, dan pengelolaan usaha. Metode penelitian yang digunakan meliputi kajian literatur dan analisis regulasi terkait, serta wawancara dengan pelaku usaha restoran dan pihak berwenang dalam bidang pariwisata. Penelitian ini juga meninjau implementasi Sertifikasi Standar Usaha Restoran Berbasis Risiko yang mencakup usaha dengan risiko rendah hingga tinggi, berdasarkan kriteria keselamatan dan kesehatan kerja (K3), kesehatan masyarakat, dan lingkungan (K3L). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sertifikasi dan standar usaha restoran yang diterapkan melalui Lembaga Online Single Submission (OSS) dan Lembaga Sertifikasi Usaha Bidang Pariwisata (LSU Bidang Pariwisata) efektif dalam memastikan pemenuhan standar keselamatan, kesehatan, dan kualitas pelayanan di industri restoran. Namun, terdapat tantangan dalam sosialisasi dan penerapan standar ini di kalangan pelaku usaha kecil dan menengah. Kesimpulannya, standar dan sertifikasi usaha restoran berperan penting dalam meningkatkan kualitas dan daya saing industri restoran dalam sektor pariwisata, tetapi perlu ada upaya lebih lanjut dalam meningkatkan pemahaman dan kepatuhan pelaku usaha terhadap standar tersebu
EDUKASI PENGEMBANGAN UMKM GUNA MENINGKATKAN PROFITABILITAS MASYARAKAT DESA MARGALUYU
No full textPengembangan Usaha Mikro, Kecil, dan Menengah (UMKM) telah diakui sebagai salah satu motor utama pertumbuhan ekonomi lokal di banyak negara, termasuk di tingkat desa. Dalam konteks desa, UMKM seringkali menjadi tulang punggung ekonomi, menciptakan lapangan kerja, meningkatkan pendapatan, dan memperkuat jaringan sosial serta budaya. Namun, untuk memaksimalkan potensi UMKM dalam meningkatkan profitabilitas desa, diperlukan upaya nyata dalam edukasi dan pengembangan keterampilan bagi para pemilik usaha di tingkat lokal. Pertumbuhan Usaha Mikro, Kecil, dan Menengah (UMKM) memiliki peran penting dalam pengembangan ekonomi lokal, terutama di wilayah pedesaan. Desa-desa seringkali menjadi tempat bersemayamnya beragam potensi ekonomi lokal yang dapat dimanfaatkan untuk meningkatkan kesejahteraan masyarakat. Namun, UMKM di tingkat desa sering menghadapi berbagai tantangan, seperti keterbatasan akses terhadap modal, keterampilan manajerial yang terbatas, serta kurangnya pengetahuan tentang pasar dan teknologi. Edukasi dan pengembangan keterampilan menjadi kunci untuk mengatasi tantangan tersebut dan meningkatkan profitabilitas UMKM di desa. Dengan meningkatkan kapasitas pemilik usaha dan pelaku ekonomi lokal, diharapkan UMKM dapat lebih kompetitif, berdaya saing, dan mampu memberikan kontribusi yang lebih besar terhadap pertumbuhan ekonomi desa
