Chatter-Free Distributed Control for Multi-agent Nonholonomic Wheeled Mobile Robot
This paper proposes to design a chatter-free distributed control for multiagent nonholonomic wheeled mobile robot systems employing terminal exponential functions with graph theory. The terminal tracking criteria are estimated using the Lyapunov approach. The development of distributed control for nonholonomic multiagent wheeled robot systems is defined in the paper along with consensus tracking for undirected fixed/switched topologies. Numerical simulations have been done in order to assess the efficacy and efficiency of the proposed distributed control method in multiple scenarios
The Digital Ecosystem as a Business Model
Digital ecosystems are modular type structures composed of loosely connected components that can be combined in different ways. They allow the development of a new business model, which is based on a network of business partners and organizes economic activities in a new way. The digital ecosystem brings together actors from different sectors, with different perspectives and opportunities, who share resources, experiences and ideas, and create value for the end user. The technological basis of digital ecosystems is formed by shared platforms and a set of standards, leading among which is the application programming inter- face (API). Based on theoretical and methodological publications, the article examines the concept of the digital ecosystem as a business model of partnerships, as well as the technologies on which it is developed
Phytochemical, Pharmacological and Toxicological Aspects of Capparis erythrocarpos Isert.: A Review
Capparis erythrocarpos is a shrub plant with a large natural distribution used in traditional medicines to cure various illnesses. The study sought to review and compile all data available on this medicinally important plant, which will help inform scientists and researchers the gap needed to be filled in studying the plant. The present review summarizes information concerning the ethnopharmacology, morphology, phytochemistry, toxicology and biological activities of C. erythrocarpos. Scientific databases such as NCBI/PubMed, Google scholar, Sci finder, Science direct were searched for published article on the plant. The active phytochemicals; flavonoids, alkaloids, terpenoids, phytosterols, glycosides, tannins, coumarins and saponins have been identified from various parts of the plant. Pharmacological and biological studies on the plant have revealed its antimicrobial, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antipyretic, anti-diabetic and anti-dyslipidemia activities, with no reported toxic effect.
It is recommended that future studies should focus on identification, separation, purification and quantification of the most bioactive constituents of C. erythrocarpos due to the paucity of information in this area
Sorption of Phosphate onto Surfactant-Modified Zeolite Particles
Slow-release phosphorous (P) fertilizer is basically considered as an approach to increase the efficiency of P fertilization on agricultural lands. This study aimed to examine the effect of pH solutions (3.5, 7, 9 and 11), contact times (10, 15, 30, 60, 90, 120 and 150 minutes), and solid-solution ratios (1:500 , 1:1000, and 1:1500) on the capability of zeolite as a material for the development of slow-release fertilizers for absorbing phosphate ions. The surface of natural zeolite was chemically modified through surfactant addition (hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide - C9H42BrN or HDTMABr), and the capability of surfactant-modified zeolite (SMZ) to adsorb phosphate ions was studied through batch experiments. Results of the study showed that pH solution affected the sorption of phosphate ions onto SMZ, in which pH solution of 5.0 showed high P adsorption and was below the pHpzc of SMZ. The amount of adsorbed P onto SMZ does not vary based on changes in contact time. Result of the study also revealed that the maximum sorption capacity (Qmax) of phosphate ions onto SMZ increases with increasing solid-solution ratios. Results of this study show that SMZ may potentially be used as an material for the development of slow-release P fertilizers, in which the pH solution and solid-solution ratio control the amount of sorbed P onto SMZ
The Development of the Mindfulness for Mental Fitness Program (Mind-Fit): An Online Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Group Therapy Program for Anxiety and Depression among Filipino College Students
Primarily, the study was conducted to test the efficacy of a newly developed Online Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Group Therapy Program for Anxiety and Depression among Filipino College Students known as Mind-Fit Program. Using One Group Pretest-Posttest Design, participants underwent 5-sessions (5 weeks with 45 minutes-2 hours duration per week). Measures such as Hopkin’s Symptom Checklist (HSCL), Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9), Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) and Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale 10 were used as pre and post-test measures. Both quantitative and qualitative approaches were used to analyze the data. Results revealed on the quantitative part using paired sample t-test and Cohen’s d that there is a significant difference on the pre and post-test results on Hopkins Anxiety scale (t(5) = 17.419, p = .000) and Beck Anxiety measure (t(5) = 5.466, p = .005) with Cohen\u27s d of 4.60 and 3.42 respectively. Same pattern was found on the difference of pre and post test on depression measures. Statistically significant findings on both Hopkins Depression subscale (t(5) = 7.359, p = .002) and PHQ-9 measure (t(5) = 5.466, p = .005) with Cohen’s d of 4.28 and 2.13 respectively
Kidnapping: A Threat to the Survival and Stability of the Church in Nigeria
The Church whose prophetic vocation is the extension and implementation of the mission of God in the world (Nigeria) is currently being challenged by incessant kidnappings which cut across all institutions and all classes of people including students some of which are tortured, killed or left with serious traumatic experiences. The primary purpose of this paper is to address the menace of kidnapping as a prevailing security challenge and how the church can continue to be relevant in this kind of environment. This paper adopted the use of primary sources which highlighted available relevant literature including current media report through which Nigeria’s horrific situation is laid bare. Engaging the functionalist perspective of deviant approach and the Marxist view on crime, this paper argues that unequal opportunities for the citizenry to realize their potentials brings about what Merton calls innovation which sums up the reason for resorting to other means (kidnapping). This paper further argues that, the fact that critical institutions including the church are languishing under the very watch of the Government whose primary responsibility is to protect lives and properties of the citizens clearly demonstrates that the nation (Nigeria) is at war with itself. Many have written on insecurity (kidnapping) bedeviling our Nation but have however, paid little attention on how the church is somewhat affected. The research reveals among others that kidnapping affects the church in the aspect of reaching out (evangelism), and because some of the leaders and members of the church are held hostage or killed, the Christian populace are like sheep without a shepherd/shepherd without the sheep. This paper therefore recommends among others that the church should remain true/faithful to its calling, unite and not be divided against itself and Government should employ and equip more security personnel to be stationed permanently in churches and schools
Evaluation of the Implementation of the "Lanny Jaya Sehat" Program in Lanny Jaya Regency in 2021
Background: Through the “Lanny Jaya Sehat” Program, the Lanny Jaya Regency Government is determined to make all of its people healthy. The community can receive all treatments until they are fully recovered or recovered without having to worry about finances. The “Lanny Jaya Sehat” Program has been in place for nearly three years, and while many people have benefited from it, there are still some challenges in its implementation and planning. Objectives: The purpose of this study is to explore the inputs, processes and outputs of the “Lanny Jaya Sehat” program in Lanny Jaya Regency in 2021. Methods: This study uses a qualitative design with a case study design, where researchers want to dig deeper into the implementation of the “Lanny Jaya Sehat” program. Result: This study discovered that the input in the “Lanny Jaya Sehat” program was very good, that complaints about human resources in 2020 were corrected by a change in management in 2021, that the number of budget sources in 2020 is special allocation fund (DAK) and community contribution fund, but that in 2021 only uses one budget source, namely community contributions fund, that the process was carried out in accordance with existing mechanisms, and that the output found is an increase in patient visits from 2020 to 4 times in 2021. Conclusion: The evaluation of input, process, and output has been going well, and an evaluation is performed every year to correct any deficiencies that arise
Usable Privacy Mechanisms in Home Security Camera Systems
IoT is the interconnection of People and things. When our home is connected to IoT devices it is referred to as smart home. The idea behind smart home is to make life easier such that there is little human intervention. The IoT devices in our smart home exchange data for storage and processing. This exchange of data leads to users concerns on data security and privacy. In this work, we implemented home security camera systems in such a way that the data is encrypted first before being sent to the cloud in a very simplified and almost automatic encryption process. This implementation was done putting in mind usability. A questionnaire was used to gather results on users’ perception about the system. The user study conducted yielded positive result
Sociolinguistic Analysis of Loanwords Use by Gurene Speakers
This paper examines the phenomenon in which Gurene speakers use loanwords which has the native vocabulary equivalence. Though the use of loanwords is beneficial and ubiquitous to all languages which have insufficient vocabulary, substituting a language’s original vocabulary with loanwords in speech as in the case of Gurene speakers is detrimental to language development. This may constitute vocabulary reduction in a language rather than vocabulary expansion which is the pivot of borrowing words from foreign languages. The Labovian’s approach is applied in data collection where three age groups which comprised the children, the young adults and the adults were interviewed orally based on how they use loanwords either consciously or unconsciously as against the native equivalence of the loanwords. The main theory adapted for this study is the Sociolinguistic Theory. The paper showed that all the age groups use loanwords unconsciously than the native vocabulary equivalence, and those loanwords are often pronounced differently from the source language pronunciation. It also revealed that different age groups have varied knowledge in consciously using the native equivalence of the loanwords. The children’s group is the least while the adults being the highest. Generally, the native speakers prefer replacing loanwords to the native words in speech. This phenomenon has adverse effects to children learning some essential vocabulary of their native language. Also, it makes both the young adults and the adults lose some essential vocabulary of their native language. It is clear that this problem will eventually not only result to vocabulary reduction but also a mix-language, hence the paper recommends that only loanwords that lack the native words equivalence should be used because it is inappropriate for one to loan words to replace words that already exist in the native language
Periodic Assessment of Trend and Climatic Variability in the LCB
Periodic assessment of trend and climatic variability is important for better planning and water resource management in the LCB catchment. This study assessed the impact of climatic variables on the LCB (LCB) using rainfall data derived from TAMSAT, run off and evapotranspiration data derived from climate engine over a period of twenty years (2001-2020). Non-parametric Mann Kendall (MK) and Spearman rho tests were applied to detect the presence of rainfall trends and trend magnitude was calculated using Sen’s Slope Estimator (SSE). With an average annual rainfall of 523.62mm, trend analysis showed an annual positive trend for precipitation at 5% significance level. Analysis of seasonal rainfall using both tests revealed an increasing trend during the dry season. However, the late dry season experienced a slight increasing trend and for wet seasons. There was 2.7% runoff and 4.6% evapotranspiration which are the lowest for the time series
