    The Effects of Preexisting Health Conditions and Vaccination on the COVID-19 Complications

    In recent years, the coronavirus pandemic disease has been more fatal in the world. The presence of several comorbidities, particularly asthma, cardiovascular problems, diabetes, and kidney disease, has been linked to a worse prognosis of COVID-19 infection. This paper examined the progression of the disease, significant health risks, effects of vaccination and COVID-19 complications rates among people with comorbidities. A cross-sectional study has been conducted with direct interviews of 1002 patients in different parts of Bangladesh following a well-organized questionnaire. This study clearly shows that pre-existing health problems are extremely high-risk factors for long-term major health complications such as shortness of breath, hypertension, loss of taste and appetite, mental depression, dementia, uncontrolled blood pressure, and sugar levels during and after recovery from COVID-19 infection. Among them, almost 70% of asthma and cardiovascular disease patients were suffering from severe health complications, including shortness of breath, hypertension, and mental health problems, after getting the COVID-19 infection. Moreover, it also revealed that vaccination can significantly reduce the severity of COVID complications up to 50% compared to unvaccinated people. The overall finding of this study can be useful for the prediction of possible ways to avoid the life-threatening risk of COVID-19 infection for people who are already suffering from various preexisting health problems

    Analysis of Factors Affecting District/City GRDP in Kalimantan Island

    The Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) is the added value of production obtained from various sectors. The value of GRDP is one of the indicators to see and measure the economic growth of a region. When compared to other islands, Kalimantan Island has a GRDP value that is quite low. Therefore, regression analysis is needed to see what factors affect the value of GRDP. However, the problem that is often found is that the local conditions of each place are different. There are many things behind it, one of which is in terms of geography. This is often referred to as spatial heterogeneity. One of the spatial modeling techniques that overcomes spatial heterogeneity is Geographically Weighted Regression. Because the weighting is based on the location of the observation or the area, it is possible that modeling on more than one explanatory variable has multicolinearity. There are several methods that are able to overcome multicolinearity in the GWR model, including Ridge regression and Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator (LASSO). In this study, the best model is the Geographically Weighted Regression model with a coefficient of determination (R2) of 97.63% and an RMSE value of 258711464. The dominant factors affecting the value of GRDP at each location are the Human Development Index (IPM), the number of workers, and the percentage of households using electricity

    The Educational Aspirations of Students from Romania at the Transition from Secondary to High School. A Longitudinal Study

    This paper aims to investigate how the educational aspirations of secondary school students, upon graduation from this and the next cycle of schooling, are influenced by personal characteristics (gender), students\u27 expectations and their parents\u27 level of education. Educational aspirations are students\u27 desires to achieve higher levels of schooling or changing orientations that are influenced by a combination of structural background characteristics and an assessment of capabilities, opportunities, resources, and barriers during adolescence. The study used data collected in autumn 2011 and spring 2013 by means of a school and career orientation questionnaire applied to all 8th and later 9th grade students in Bihor County, Romania (same sample in two different stages); and data from the National Assessment.  The hypotheses of the study where: with success in the national assessment, at an educational establishment and the transition to a new school cycle, educational aspirations will change upwards, the educational aspirations of pupils whose parents have a high level of education will increase and the educational aspirations of pupils whose parents have a low level of education will decrease and that female students will experience an increase in educational aspirations. In the end, the first two hypotheses of the study were confirmed, while the third hypothesis, concerning the relationship between parental educational attainment and students\u27 educational aspirations, was refuted

    Determinants of Undernutrition among Children under Age 5 in the Puntland State of Somalia

    The purpose of this study was to investigate the determinants of nutritional status among children under age 5 (0-59 months) in Puntland. Undernutrition is a global challenge, it does not only adversely affect short? and long?term health and economic well?being of children but it is also a leading contributor to death and disability globally. Undernutrition short-term effects include mortality and morbidity where long-term effects are that the children do not reach their full developmental potential and would have poor cognitive performance, which in turn has consequences on the country’s economic productivity. Nutritional status of the Somali children in Puntland is relatively poor due to many reasons such as low economic conditions of Somali households, lack of food security and severe drought that has affected the country in recent years and among other factors. This study used data from the Puntland Health and Demographic Survey 2020 which was conducted by the Department of Statistics at Puntland Ministry of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation with technical support from UNFPA Somalia. The analysis used stunting, wasting, and underweight as dependent variables, while the independent variables were children, maternal, and household characteristics. Bivariate and multivariate Logistic regression models were performed to analyze the determinants of nutritional status among the children. The study showed a significant association between children’s nutritional status and most of the explanatory variables under study. Place of residence, gender of household head, wealth index, source of drinking water, source of energy for cooking, toilet facility, mother’s age, marital status, education, breastfeeding, ANC visits, BMI, work status, child’s sex, child’s age, birth order and size at birth have significant associations with children’s nutrition status. The study found that most variables in child, maternal, and household characteristics were significantly associated with stunting and wasting among children under age five.  Based on these findings, the research recommends that a multi-sectoral approach is needed to address undernutrition in Puntland state. Combined nutrition programmes from different sectors in line with National Development Plans (NDP) need to be designed to address the underlying causes of acute and chronic malnutrition

    Shares are one of the long-term financial instruments traded in the capital market and are one of the popular investment alternatives for investors in Indonesia. One of the goals of investors investing in a company is to get a profit (return). The higher the stock\u27s selling price is above the purchase price, the higher the return that investors will get. Stock data is time-series data. Therefore, time-series data modeling is needed to determine when investors will get returns shared. One of the models used for time-series data is the ARIMA model. This model assumes that the data\u27s volatility (rate of fluctuation) is constant. In financial data, there are many cases of data with non-constant volatility. This non-constant volatility will cause heteroscedastic problems in the data. Therefore we need a model that can accommodate heteroscedastic problems in the data. One model used is the Generalized Autoregressive Conditional Heteroscedasticity (GARCH) model. This study also examines the effect of independent variables ( input series ), namely world crude oil prices, the positive number of Covid-19, the dollar exchange rate against the rupiah, and the Shanghai composite index on stock return time-series data ( output series ) in the agribusiness and trade sectors. One of the models used to analyze the effect of input series variables on time series data is the transfer function model. The data used is from March 2, 2020, to June 30, 2021. These two models are compared to find out which time series forecast is better. The results showed that the transfer function method is a better method used for forecasting the next seven days on the stock return data of PT. Sawit Sumber Mas Sarana Tbk and PT.     Drying Methods of Commercially Valued Sea Cucumbers: Holothuria scabra and Holothuria nobilis

    The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of drying methods (sun-drying and microwave drying) on the shrinkage ratio of commercially valued sea cucumber - Holothuria scabra and Holothuria nobilis. The shrinkage ratio was derived from the utilization of thirty-six sea cucumber samples obtained from Brgy. Cahayagan, Laoang, Northern Samar with varying sizes to ensure representativeness. Sun-drying was carried out for 24 hours, while microwave drying was performed for 10 minutes at 40°C. Results revealed that as the weight of the samples increases, the shrinkage ratio decreases. Microwave drying also obtained the highest shrinkage ratio at 95%; however, the study also revealed no significant difference in the shrinkage ratio between the sun-dried and microwave-dried sea cucumbers, suggesting that these methods can be used alternately in drying sea cucumber species. &nbsp

    Background: Covid-19 has triggered conditions that are detrimental to the worldwide community\u27s health. The very easy manner of transmission through the respiratory tract is influencing the rising amount of Covid-19 infections. Another factor is that it is spread by direct contact, such as touching a corona virus-infected surface. The necessity to add a means to break the chain of transmission of Covid-19 in the community is a crucial thing to do in addition to needing to implement health protocols in every location. The Covid-19 vaccination is a must-have tool for reducing or even eliminating Covid-19 transmission in the community. Vaccines are quite useful in eliciting an antibody response in everyone, especially in at-risk groups. Objectives: The purpose of this study is to acquire information relating to the challenge of applying the Covid-19 vaccine in the community in Jayapura City. Methods: This study takes a qualitative approach (exploratory study) with a phenomenological design. The participants in this study were adults between the ages of 20 and 60 who declined the Covid-19 vaccination, as well as elderly people (over 60 years old) as many as 12 participants. This study was conducted in Jayapura City from April to June 2021. Result: The Covid-19 vaccine still faces challenges in its adoption, as indicated by the poor public acceptance of vaccination in Jayapura City

    Improvement of Gas Turbine Performance Using Multi-Stage Inlet Air Cooling System

    Gas turbines play a significant role as an energy source if it has been designed according to the ISO operating conditions taking into consideration the operating conditions varied with the variation of the ambient conditions. This work aims to determine the effect of many parameters like the temperature at the compressor inlet, relative humidity, pressure ratios, and polytropic efficiency on each component of gas turbine performance (compressor, combustion chamber, and turbine). In this work, the Engineering Equation Solver (EES) software is used to calculate exergy destruction, net power, and all efficiencies (1st law and 2nd efficiency). After that, the validation of the code generated through EES software is performed using the actual performance data from the Heliopolis gas turbine power plant 25 MW. model, (GE GT-TM) made by GE. The results show the performance of the overall gas turbine behaves with and without a multi-stage cooling system.  In addition, the effect of using the new inlet air cooling system on the gas turbine performance improvement under different conditions is determined. It is worth mentioning that the maximum power output increase is about 14.3% at the maximum ambient temperature (313oK). While the change of the 1st low efficiency and the 2nd low efficiency are so small it could be neglected. Also, the results illustrate that first and second law efficiencies provide quantitative and qualitative compressor performance assessments. The present multi-stage cooling system reduces the back-period cost if it uses a chiller system. Adding a chilling system before the fogging cooling system reflects the downsizing of the chilling system. This means low initial capital investment costs and low total annual costs. Ovarian reserve plays a key role in evaluating these patients and their prognosis. The best tool that we have for appreciating ovarian reserve is AMH (antimullerian hormone). On the other hand, maintaining thyroid function in normal parameters is essential for reproduction. We review in our paper the liaison between these two factors: AMH and thyroid autoimmunity.     The Relationship Between the Body Mass Index and the Controlled Ovarian Stimulation Outcomes

    When assessing the impact of body mass index (BMI) values on controlled ovarian outcomes, high BMI tips the balance regarding negative impact. Although not all studies agree, it seems that both intermediary and definite endpoints are offset, and the effect is progressively more significant with increasing BMI. In addition, evidence suggests that oocyte quality and endometrial receptivity are lower in overweight and obese patients. Perfecting how increased weight is quantified and unifying definitions of parameters assessed emerge as ways in which a more concise view of the impact of BMI on in vitro fertilization (IVF) procedures could be achieved. The unifying viewpoint is that weight interventions could improve natural and assisted conception results and assure a safer pregnancy for both mother and child. Still, how weight loss could be achieved, especially in these women to whom time pressure is added, remain to be refined
