Implementation of Disaster Risk Reduction Management of Public Elementary Schools
This study dealt with the level of implementation of disaster risk reduction and management program in public elementary schools during the S.Y. 2020-2021. This study employed a descriptive-correlational method of research with 45 respondents. Findings revealed that the level of implementation of DRRM program by the school DRRM coordinators obtained an overall weighted mean of 4.37 denoting a transmuted rating of “High”. Moreover, significant differences in the level of implementation of DRRM program by the school DRRM coordinators across profile variables sex and civil status was evident. Likewise, significant relationships between the level of implementation of DRRM program by the school DRRM coordinators and their age was evident. It can be concluded the school DRRM coordinators are performing well their roles in implementing the DRRM program in the schools. It is recommended that a well-planned development program on disaster risk reduction management program shall be crafted by the DepEd. This is essential to improve/sustain the level of implementation of DRRM program in their schools and communities
Quality of Physical Education in Teacher Education: Expectations of Physical Education Instructors and Undergraduate Students
There are many influencing factors in the quality of physical education. Physical education professionals continue to aim to develop quality programs for physical education. This study aimed to determine the quality of physical education in teacher education as experienced by the physical education instructors and students. This also aimed to find out the needs of the respondents and their recommendations to achieve high quality of physical education in teacher education. The study revealed that the level of quality of physical education as experienced by the students is high, while the instructors experience a very high level of quality of physical education. Thus, there is a significant difference in the levels of quality of physical education in teacher education as experienced by the students and the instructors. When grouped according to the program they are in, the students do not vary in their experience on the level of quality of physical education in teacher education. To improve the quality of physical education, the students and the instructors need more related materials and equipment in teaching and learning physical education. The respondents suggest and recommend improved teaching methods and strategies for better physical education quality in teacher education
Biochemical and Molecular Characterization of Gram-Negative Strain 37A Isolate from Spring Water Fountains
In this study, water samples from thirteen spring water fountains were collected in Burdur, Turkey. A gram-negative bacterial strain was isolated from cultures of water samples on Bunt and Rovira (BR) and 0.1 X Nutrient agar media. The isolated strain was characterized for cell wall structure, colony morphology, catalase expression, antibiotic sensitivity and 16S ribosomal RNA (rRNA) gene sequence. Results showed that the strain is gram-negative, catalase positive and rod shaped with pink colony morphology. The disc diffusion test for the strain revealed its sensitivity to cefoxitin, ofloxacin, tetracyclin, telithromycin, tobramycin, and sulfamethoxazole-trimethoprim antibiotics. Blast search for 16S rRNA gene sequence indicated that the strain is Erwinia persicina which is pathogenic strain for plants
The Concentration of Hydrogen Peroxide, Percentage of Motility, Viability, Plasma Membrane Integrity, and Abnormality of Frozen Semen of Horned and Polled Bali Bulls
The aim of the study was to determine the frozen semen quality of horned and hornless (polled) Bali bull including hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) concentration, motility, viability, plasma membrane integrity, and abnormalities. This study used frozen semen from 2 horned and 2 polled Bali bulls aged 5 to 7 years. The concentration of H2O2 was measured using 2-7-Dichlorodihydrofluorescein Diacetate (DCHF-DA) dye, motility was assessed subjectively under a microscope, viability was assessed by eosin-negrosin staining, plasma membrane integrity was calculated using the Hypoosmotic Swelling Test (HOS-Test), and abnormalities were evaluated with Sperm Stein Ready to USE stain.
The results showed that there was no significant difference (P>0.05) between horned and polled based on the H2O2 concentration (2.37 ± 0.64 vs 2.65 ± 0.94), motility was (47.25 ± 5.04 vs 44.25 ± 8.12), plasma membrane integrity (50.62 ± 6.27 vs 52.75 ± 5.76), and abnormalities (15.90 ± 5.70 vs. 19.18 ± 6.39) but there was a significant difference (P<0.05) in the viability value (53.71 ± 8.56 vs. 64.09 ± 9.48). It can be concluded that the quality of frozen semen of horned and hornless (polled) Bali cattle based on H2O2 concentration, motility, plasma membrane integrity and abnormalities had the same conditions. The viability of spermatozoa from frozen semen of polled was better than that of horned Bali cattle
Determinants of Covid-19 Vaccine Resistance in Korhogo, Côte d\u27Ivoire
The Covid-19 pandemic was first reported in Wuhan, China. Faced with the dangers (multiple contaminations, restriction of social and economic life and numerous deaths) linked to the disease that affect all countries on different continents, measures have been taken, including vaccination to protect the population. However, there is a resistance of the populations, especially that of Korhogo, north of Côte d\u27Ivoire, to receive the vaccine against Covid-19. This mixed-methods study analyzes the determinants of resistance to vaccination against Covid-19. Data collection was based on interviews and a questionnaire administered to students, members of a cooperative and motorcycle taxi drivers. The results showed that the reluctance of the population to be vaccinated against Covid-19 can be explained by a set of determinants linked to the neglect of the actual existence of the disease, a lack of confidence in the strategies developed by the authorities in the management of the pandemic, the influence of social networks and the insecurity of the vaccine due to the side effects manifested by some subjects after receiving the first dose. These populations rely instead on preventive therapeutic prescriptions from community leaders based on local cultural practices. More extensive and diversified communication activities must be carried out for the benefit of the population, taking into account the level of education and the cultural context.
Determination of Suitable Fabric in Sportswear by Integrated SWARA-MABAC Approach
The concept of sports is one of the most important areas that contribute to the economic and social development of countries by enabling them to be healthy individuals by affecting the mental, physical and spiritual structures of people positively. In line with the technological developments, as a result of the increase in the living standards of people, the expectations from the clothes and other equipment they use while doing sports have gone beyond just being suitable for the strength, design and fashion elements, and the importance given to the performance and the comfort of the clothing has increased. Sportswear is expected to offer comfortable mobility to the body, not to hold sweat and water, and to have comfort features such as breathability. These functions, which are expected from the fabrics, make a visible contribution to the performances of sports people. In this study performance characteristic of fabrics used in activewear was measured by using SWARA and MABAC methods. The criteria are weighted by SWARA method and suitable fabric for active wear are determined according to the criteria were calculated by MABAC method
Design a Smart Mini Robot for Indoor Plant Watering System
Nowadays, people tend to forget to fulfill the watering needs and give adequate care for the plants due to their busy routine life, resulting in shorter lifespan of the plants. Here, we present the design and development of fully autonomous, cost effective and efficient system for watering indoor plants that are placed on a surface at even distance. The system comprised of a smart mini robot which is comprised of an Arduino microcontroller, wheels, motors, motor drive, water tank, water pump, a wireless communication radio. Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) module has the main functions such as navigation; carry water for watering the plants and uses wireless communication to communicate with the plant subsystem. The other main part of the system is potted plants, which is comprised of Arduino microcontroller, soil moisture sensor and wireless communication module which are responsible for functions such as sense the amount of moisture present in the soil and send signals to the smart mini robot when in need of water. As per the amount of soil moisture present in the soil, which is sensed by sensing module, the watering needs of the plants will be fulfilled by the smart mini robot. This smart mini robot is fully capable of receiving the signal from the potted plants, navigate towards plants, locating the plants and pumping the water to the plants without any human intervention. To Autonomously maneuver near the mobile robot, a predefined path is used and for identifying each plant in the system, an RFID tag is attached to each plant. Apart from the architecture this paper also describes the comprehensive implementation of the system. This paper concludes with the system performance evaluation and future project extensions where this system can be reviewed and enhanced
Breaking the Stigma of Breadwinners: Exploring the Struggles and Challenges of Single Filipinos Overseas in Qatar, A Phenomenology
Background: Qatar is a melting pot of cultures. Qatar’s welcoming approach has led more and more expatriates over the years—including single Filipinos who seek better opportunities and stability for themselves and their families. This research study endeavors to understand Single Overseas Filipino workers’ lived experiences, analyzing their struggles and challenges in Qatar. Methods: This qualitative research utilized a phenomenological research design exploring and acknowledging single Filipino breadwinners’ experiences in Qatar. It corresponds to the central question: “How does the reality of being a single overseas Filipino worker in Qatar, providing for their families back home in the Philippines, affect their current state?” The data set was gathered in the form of an interview and was analyzed through a dendrogram. Findings: Based on the responses of the purposely-chosen participants, four themes were created. These are (1) Personal Circumstances which includes Managing Emotions, Conquering Homesickness, and Finding Self-Direction; (2) Familial Facets, which encompasses Undertaking Responsibilities, Facing Expectations, and Understanding Situations; (3) Social Influences which incorporates Adapting Socially, Strengthening Relationships, and Diverging Connections; (4) Financial Foes which involves Generating Income, Managing Remittances, and Stabilizing Finances. Conclusion: The inspiring stories of the single Overseas Filipino Workers who served as the family’s breadwinners serve as an eye-opener to the struggles, opportunities, and strategies they employ to make sense of the journey they are taking. These will also serve as footnotes to aspiring Filipino expatriates who put families at the center of their lives. Recommendations: Future researchers may focus on various aspects and factors beyond this research, such as those with families, married, or widows. Furthermore, jobs are part of different collar jobs with different genders or social statuses
Approaching Biophilia in Designing Children´s Educational Environment
In recent decades, several studies started to focus on enhancing connectivity with nature and nurture children´s biophilia to improve their mental health and wellbeing especially in their early formative years. However, in design practice, architects involved in designing children educational environment need to have better understanding on how to enhance this tendency for biophilia. this paper begins to explore this growing body of research and emerging biophilic design dimensions, and attributes in architectural terms, which could help in drawing connections between fields of study, highlight potential avenues for future research, evolve understanding of biophilic design patterns, and capture the cognitive benefits afforded by biophilia in designing educational spaces for childhood. A research methodology consisting of a literature review, analysis of worldwide case studies and a one-to-one interview was conducted with a sample of children (3-7 years old) attending a nature-based nursery in Egypt, was designed to accomplish intended objectives. Findings of this study indicated that early childhood have a positive attraction for all-natural environment and features. Results showed that children enjoy being in, which provides a glimpse into the potentials of integrating nature within architectural context, including offering beauty, freedom, efficient learning, relaxation, and a critical life support system
Convolutional Neural Network Based Image Classification
This paper presents the study of Convolutional Neural Network based Image Classification. In this study, different convolutional neural network model is implemented for image classification. There are two application which is performed in this namely, emotion detection from facial emotion recognition system and covid-19 detection from lung CT-scan. In this research work, AlexNet and ResNet-50 convolutional neural network models are used for comparison and evaluation is done based on its training accuracy and testing accuracy, confusion matrix and Area under the curve (AUC) of ROC graph. All the experiments are performed on MATLAB software. In the First application of CNN model is implemented to detect emotions from facial expressions and SVM classifier is used for classification of each emotion among eight facial expressions namely, surprise, contempt, happiness, sadness, fear, anger, disgust, and neutral. The following proposed work is carried out on CK+ datasets to determine the recognition. After performing on both CNN models accuracy of both the models are compared. The result shows that ResNet-50 model achieved the best accuracy of 97.32% which is better than 90.55% which got on AlexNet model. In Second application of CNN model is to detect covid-19 from lung CT-scans. The highest performing model, the ResNet-50 on a SARS-CoV-2 CT-scan dataset achieved an accuracy of 95.72% which is maximum than 85.50% which achieved on AlexNet Model. Gradient-Weighted Class Activation Mapping (Grad-CAM) is also used to display infected area in the lungs. After performing this experiment, the final results shows that the ResNet-50 model, performs much better as compared to AlexNet model
