    Get PDF
Functional food consumption is increasing due to its proclaimed health benefits. Yogurt is consumed worldwide as a fermented milk product, whereas the market for functional yogurts is growing with the development of new products. Functional yogurts are formulated by the addition of functional ingredients, making them beneficial for the host beyond normal nutrition. Prebiotic, probiotic, and synbiotic yogurts are important groups in functional yogurts. Prebiotic yogurts are formulated by the addition of food components that are nondigestive yet beneficial. Probiotic yogurts are formulated using probiotic starter cultures, which are so-called good bacteria for the human gastrointestinal tract. Synbiotic yogurts are formulated using pro- and prebiotics. Consumer acceptance is the main challenge for their development due to the effects on the rheology of the product and sensory characteristics of the functional yogurts

Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) remain a significant public health problem in the United States, especially among college students. The sexually transmitted disease is used to refer to an infection spread from one individual to another through sexual contact. Sexually transmitted diseases may be most often, but not exclusively spread by sexual intercourse. It can also be spread by birth (mother to child) or with the use of needles. Western Illinois University (WIU) is a public university. It has two campuses: Moline, IL (Quad cities) and Macomb, Illinois, United States. It was founded in 1899 and is located at 1 University Circle, Macomb, IL 61455 (WIU, 2019).  Western Illinois University\u27s main campus is in the rural community of Macomb, Illinois, and offers a college program experience for almost 8,000 students. This research study makes use of both primary and secondary data to generate data. The primary data involves the use of a survey while secondary data will be generated from the Center for disease control, Western Illinois University Beau Health center, and World Health Organization. These sources are reliable because the method of data collection is consistent. Furthermore, these centers are trusted to give an accurate representation of statistics among students that present for the screening and the infected population. Get PDF
The importance of communication for the successful development of new projects has been well documented. One of the hypotheses being tested in the commercialization of Sericulture Technologies and Innovations is that the success depends on effective communication.  While it is an expensive process, we have observed that improving communication maximizes success and minimizes risks and has been useful in acquiring more land for expansion, more resources allocated to the project and more partners getting on board. Different subject matter specialists have come up with excellent agriculture programs/projects, but these interventions cannot succeed if they have not been properly communicated to the end user (the farmer) and all other key stakeholders. A survey in 26 different sericulture research stations was conducted for all stakeholders in Uganda with 170 questionnaires distributed but only 151 questionnaires satisfactorily completed and returned. Data analysis was done using the Statistical Product and Service Solutions (SPSS)19.0. The chi-square test showed that there was a high significant relationship between sex, geographical location of respondents to different communication methods used with p-value (0.0) below 0.05 while age of respondents had no significant relationship with communication method used with p-value (0.5) above 0.05. Effective communication was hindered by poor infrastructure (30.5%) in form of poor transport system, poor power supply, and shortage of knowledge and information centers and lack of communication materials (25.8%)

The Combined DNA Index System (CODIS) core loci was expanded from the existing 13 to 20 STRs, meaning a new kit will needed for many laboratories. A validation study was performed in accordance with SGWDAM guidelines Scientific Working Group on DNA. This main objective of this study was to measure the sensitivity and the heterozygous allele balance of Globalfiler IQCTM kit and Verifiler PlusTM kit in order to ensure that the kits would produce reliable profile. DNA samples ranging from 4 ng to 0.016 ng were amplified in 25 ul reaction volume to define the sensitivity and heterozygous balance of two systems. The data suggested that the Verifiler PlusTM kit is more sensitive than the Globalfiler IQCTM kit. However, the data of heterozygous balance also show that the Globalfiler IQCTM kit appeared to be more balanced peak heights than the Verifiler PlusTM kit. This performance demonstrated that both amplification kit can produce robust and reliable results in forensic DNA identification. &nbsp

This is an attempt to throw light on climate change as a problem not only felt in Europe, America, and Asia, but Africa as well, with a special emphasis on Sierra Leone. The poverty level in Africa has made climate change and global warming a great concern. Many people have asked many questions in the past, certain critical questions such as these: What is climate change? What are the causes? What could be the impacts? Is it only affecting humans? If it affects other spheres that aid human existence, how does it occur? Answering these questions, I adopted descriptive analysis. I reviewed textbooks, previous studies, journals and other related materials on the internet, university papers, and interviewed people in order to carry out the study. In order to achieve the aims and objectives of this project, the necessary information collected were mainly divided into the following: Introduction, content and recommendations. The content contained the effects or impacts of climate change on life supporting elements, including the ocean/water, air and air quality, land, food security, the economy of a state, and the implications on human health. In light of these findings, I forwarded some recommendations for personnel working for a reversal of the aforementioned implications. Among the recommendations was a reduction of the use of fossil fuel at homes, putting a hold on deforestation, fighting disinformation etc

Nowadays, people using social media from around the world to share their daily affairs. Arabic twitter for example is a platform where users read, reply, post which known ‘tweets’. Users trading their opinions on different trends that are not equal in important and differed based on their power and interest. Tweets can provide rich information to make decision. The main objective of this paper is to present a framework for making a valuable decision through analyzing social users\u27 insights based on their proximity to a particular trend with highlights their power in this trend. Tweets are exceedingly unstructured that makes it difficult to analyze. Nevertheless, our proposed model differs from previous research in this field it gathered the use of supervised and unsupervised machine learning algorithms. The process of performing this work as follows: classifying users based on the degree of their closeness/interest utilizing Mendelow’s power/interest matrix, rough set theory to eliminate the features that may be found in user profiles to find minimal sets of data. The proposed model applied two attribute reduction algorithms on our dataset to determine the optimal number of reducts for improving decision making from the user replies. In addition to, unsupervised machine learning to group their replies into subcategories such as positive, negative, or neutral. The experimental evaluation shows that Johnson algorithm has reduced the user attributes by 71% than genetic algorithm that utilized in a classification model

Background: Fever is a rise in body temperature over and above the accepted normal temperature range. Fever is almost always a symptom or sign of an underlying health problem. Traditionally, different societies have devised various ways of treating fever or febrile illnesses. In Africa and most developing countries, people who develop fever usually apply first aid or home remedies before resorting to the formal health care system. This study was therefore aimed at assessing the knowledge and use of traditional medicines for the home management of febrile illness by adults in Bende LGA of Abia State. Method: A cross sectional questionnaire-based descriptive survey design was adopted for the study using a semi-structured self-administered questionnaire. A sample of 388 respondents were recruited using a multi stage sampling technique. Data generated were analyzed using statistical package for social sciences (SPSS version 20). Literature were reviewed based on the various variables of the study. Results: The findings of the study revealed that over 91% of respondents have good knowledge on febrile illness. The study also revealed a high proportion of use of traditional medicine with 154 (53.7%) using traditional medicine for the treatment of they consider as malaria. The study also showed that culture, religion, level of education, perceived effectiveness of herbal medicines, and personal interest were the major factors responsible for the utilization of traditional medicine. Majority 229(58.9%) of the respondents however affirmed that personal interest was the dominant reason for their use of traditional herbs in the home management of febrile illness. Conclusions /Recommendations:  The findings of the study revealed the respondents in the study area exhibited a high prevalence of the use of herbal medicines in management of febrile illness at homes and that culture, religion, level of education, and personal interest were the key determinant factors responsible for the utilization of traditional medicine.  While the herbal plants enumerated by the respondents were found to be largely beneficial in managing the acute febrile episodes, unregulated use of these home remedies could equally be dangerous to human health. It is therefore pertinent that appropriate measures be put in place to enlighten community members about the possible side effect of the long term unregulated use of the herbal plants
