Fresh and Frozen Semen Quality of Horned and Polled Bali Bulls
Semen quality is an important factor in the success of artificial insemination (AI). This study aims to determine the quality of fresh and frozen semen from horned and polled Bali bulls. This research was conducted at the Regional Artificial Insemination Center (RAIC) of South Sulawesi and the In Vitro Embryo Production Laboratory, Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Hasanuddin University. The research materials were the semen of two horned Bali bulls and two polled Bali bulls, each 5-6 years old. Parameters observed in fresh semen include volume, pH, color, concentration, motility, viability, abnormality, and an intact plasma membrane. While the parameters in frozen semen include motility, viability, abnormality, an intact plasma membrane, acrosome integrity, and DNA integrity. Viability and abnormality were tested using eosin-nigrosin, intact plasma membrane was tested using hypoosmotic swelling (HOS), acrosome integrity was tested using formal saline, and DNA integrity was tested using acridine orange (AO). The data obtained were tested with a T-test (Independent sample test). The results showed that there was no significant difference (P > 0.05) between fresh and frozen semen of polled Bali bulls and horned Bali bulls on all semen quality parameters. The conclusion is that fresh and frozen semen from polled and horned Bali bulls have the same quality
Discrimination, Racism, Social Inequality, and Injustice Experienced Among Native Hawaiians through the Lens of Historical Trauma
The purpose of this study was to explore the lived experiences of colonization and historical trauma and links to alcohol among Native Hawaiians living in rural Hawaii. Native American groups including, American Indians, and Alaska Natives have experienced historically traumatic events over the past 500 years, after contact with Europeans. Some Indigenous scholars have posited that historical trauma is a primary cause of the current social pathology and health disparities in Native Hawaiians. A phenomenological design was selected for this study using Indigenous storytelling methodology. Two themes emerged including: a) the participants described experiences of negative stereotyping that leads to perceived discrimination and racism which is a trigger for increased thoughts of historical losses including the loss of identity: b) the participants described experiences of social inequality and injustices which has increased the use of alcohol and methamphetamine as a way to cope by self-medicating There remains the need for investigators to examine whether the type of experiences of discrimination, racism, social inequality, and injustice differ for people of various racial-ethnic backgrounds, especially Indigenous people. It is necessary for researchers to examine the impact of these experiences to clarify the prevalence and effects on health and health behaviors
Diagnosing Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia Type1 in a Resource Limited Setting: A Case Report of Pancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumor Causing Gastric Outlet Obstruction
Gastric outlet obstruction (GOO) is a narrowing of the pyloric outlet of the stomach due to benign or malignant disease processes. Pancreatic neuro endocrine tumor (NET) as a cause of GOO is a rare etiology. Pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors are underdiagnosed pre-operatively in resource limited settings. The following case report is about unusual presentation of GOO which was clinically and radiologically diagnosed to be a pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor, more specifically a Gastrinoma. Further evaluation of the patient revealed the presence of Primary Hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) too. The constellation of the two clinical diagnoses, led to the consideration of Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia type 1(MEN1) syndrome which has not been previously reported in Ethiopia. High index of clinical suspicion is important to diagnose the MEN1 related endocrine tumors
Reconsidering Canadian Multiculturalism Through Post-Colonial Exilic Narratives
The reason behind Canada’s choice of a multicultural policy as a significant identification of its national identity remains a mysterious enigma. The focus of this paper will be on how Canadian ethno-racial minorities, especially Asian-Canadians, would question the Canadian multiculturalism in their literary narratives like the novelists, Joy Kogawa, Hiromi Goto and Gurjinder Basran. As a matter of fact, the characters of Kogawa’s Obasan, Goto’s Chorus of Mushrooms and Basran’s Everything Was Good-Bye, go beyond the fact of being a part of literary imagination to encouraging the reader to revisit the efficiency of the Canadian multicultural system in the real world. They are unable to tell if this multiculturalism really guarantees them the right to be culturally different and at the same time to be regarded as Canadian citizens. On the one hand, this system encourages the cultural diversity of the ethnic Other and this is viewed by minorities as an act of segregation sending them back to their ethnic Otherness. On the other hand, it tends to assimilate them within the mainstream culture, which is taken by racial groups as an attempt to erase their racial origins. Thus, the reader of Asian-Canadian literature finds him/herself as confused as the Asian diaspora studied

Road Performance Relationship Analysis Using PCI and IRI Method on Tukum East Ring Road
The road performance management system in pavement maintenance is based on the existing condition of the road, both functionally and structurally. Various road performance indices were developed to determine the quality of asphalt pavement and road maintenance strategies, such as the Pavement Condition Index (PCI) and International Roughness Index (IRI) methods which provide an assessment of road performance conditions in terms of damage and roughness. The main objective of this study is to analyze the relationship between road performance using the Pavement Condition Index (PCI) and the International Roughness Index (IRI). Based on the results of the two methods, the researcher processed the data by developing linear and non-linear regression models to obtain the best relationship model for the East Ring Line of Lumajang Regency. The data shows that on the Lumajang Regency East Ring Road, the average PCI value is 26.76 with the poor category, the IRI value is 7.92 with the poor category. One of the sections on the East Ring Road section, namely the JLT Tukum section with a segment length of 5.000 m, has a PCI value of 49 which is included in the poor category and the IRI value for the JLT Tukum section is 5.6 which is included in the fair category. Based on the analysis results, the best model for the Tukum East Ring Road is a non-linear exponential regression model with the equation IRI = 200 (1 – 0.02)PCI and a value of R2 = 0.94
Lapin Challenge Model for Laboratory Development of an Oral Carbohydrate Based Vi Vaccine for Typhoid
A vaccine seed strainVSS of Salmonella enterica serovar typhoid was elected from local isolates of human enteric fever.A cell free culture fitrate antigen was prepared from VSS for in-vitro use.Vi antigen was separated, characterized from propagation of VSS in a suitable growth media.Incomplete Freund adjuvant IFA was as immune preconditionar and as immunostimlant. In three groups of rabbits each of five.First, saline control, second IFA preconditioned and the third was the Vi-IFA combination in which, the vaccine specific immune priming protocol was IFA through SC route to one week only.Followed by and oral 3mg/5ml dosages in a week a part for five weeks. Two to three days post to the sixth week dose, live S.typhi challenge dose of1.5/10 to five was applied per Os for the three groups.Saline control group got clinical infection, IFA group has shown 80% immune efficacy and the Vi-IFA group has shown 100% immune efficacy.Vi-IFA prototype experimental vaccine formulation proved to be;pure, safe, immunogenic,non-allergenic and immune effective against experimental live challenge. It induces humoral agglutinins , hem agglutinin and inhibits migration of leukocyte in capillary test.Confirmation of these findings in other nonhuman primate model is suggestive
Analysis of Project Performance and Completion Time Using Evm and Cpm-Pert Methods (Case Study of Road Reconstruction Project)
The implementation of physical work requires good project control because various conditions can affect the construction implementation process. The calculation of performance analysis is carried out with Earned Value Management (EVM) and the determination of project completion time is carried out by the CPM-PERT method. In this research, it was found that in the 26th week, the schedule performance index value was 0.75758 with an estimated project completion time using the EVM method of 242 days. The critical path shown by the CPM method is M - G - H - N - F - D - E - P - O - K - B – A with a total project completion time of 274 days. Based on the PERT method, the probability of completion time for the project is 71.90%. Acceleration is carried out using the CPM critical path with an optimistic duration of PERT. This acceleration can be done by optimizing the project completion time to 256 days
Assessment for the Environmental Impacts of Chemical Constituents’ Percentage Variation for Ceramic Manufacturing
Ceramic tile manufacturing process is energy intensive since within several stages the product is subject to thermal treatment. The source of thermal energy used is by combustion of natural gas. Unfortunately, the oxidation of this fossil fuel produces greenhouse gases. The impact severity on environment and humans is influenced by the chemical composition of ceramic. Hence the objective of this research is to study the effect of changing the percentage of seven samples with the most effective composition of ceramic used in many countries. The selected impact categories for the study were global warming, Climate change, acidification, eutrophication, and human toxicity. The constituents’ percentages of ceramic manufacturing have been evaluated using GABI vs OpenLCA. It was found that lowering the percentage of Silicon dioxide in the mixture from 51.01% to 87.8 leads to an overall emission reduction of 28% and the differences between the results were close for both software
