Indigenous knowledge plays a pivotal role in the sustainable management of rangeland and the use of rangeland resources. The study was conducted with the main aim of identifying some indigenous rangeland and herd management strategies employed by agro-pastoralists in the area. Data were collected from 98 agro-pastoralists in 25 communities selected at random using structured questionnaires which contained a checklist of questions regarding indigenous rangeland and herd management practices. The study showed that the majority of the farmers (63%) practiced free grazing followed by rotational (31%) and zero-grazing (6%) systems. Majority of the farmers (77.6%) do not practice any form of herd management techniques. Whilst 12.2% practiced herd splitting, 10.2% confined their younger herds in enclosures during the rainy season where they are offered supplementary feeds. Among the factors responsible for rangeland degradation in the district were bush burning, deforestation, drought, and over-grazing. Traditional rangeland conservation practices adopted by farmers to conserve rangelands in the area were; early burning, no burning, and no felling of economic trees such as Adansonia digitata, Vitellaria paradoxa and Diospyros mespiliformis. Apart from the Fulani tribe who are pure pastoralists and do not necessarily have rights to own lands across the communities, all other farmers have unlimited access to other rangeland resources besides grazing their animals. These results suggest that a lot more effort and education are needed to enlighten farmers on the consequences of open grazing as majority of them are engaged in the practice.

In the school system in the countries, in addition to the teaching staff, experts (professional associates) are hired in the schools whose main task is to provide professional help and support to the participants in the work in the schools in order to be successful in the realization of the school education and the effects that have been achieved to be better. Their professional goal is aimed at fostering development and in identifying and understanding the difficulties students face and providing assistance in overcoming them, as well as preventing learning and behavioral difficulties. In this paper, we will try to explain and compare the function of the school pedagogue in schools in 12 European countries separately. This publication contains an overview of the professional work of school teachers in 12 countries: Austria, Serbia, Bulgaria, Denmark, Croatia, Ireland, Macedonia, Malta, Russia, America, Slovenia, Serbia and the United Kingdom. The author\u27s interest was primarily focused on questions and professional problems of pedagogues in European countries. Different names are used for the experts whose main function is to provide help and support to the students in the countries participating in the school work. In Croatia, Macedonia and Serbia they have the designation - professional associate in Bulgaria - pedagogical adviser, adviser in Slovenia, in the United States of America, United Kingdom, USA and Malta school adviser, in Austria, pupil or education adviser, in Ireland pedagogical adviser guidance, consultant in Denmark Counselor for Pedagogical - Psychological Service, and in Russia a pedagogue-psychologist in the school psychological service. Also, the names of the professional service in which these experts work in different. Let\u27s say, in Croatia there is a development-pedagogical service, in Denmark a pedagogical-psychological service, in Malta a counseling service, in Russia a psychological service, in Serbia a professional service. Due to its terminological diversity, in situations where the professional work of these experts is generally discussed, and in our paper, it was necessary to decide on a term that would apply to all countries, regardless of the specific name they have in each of them. An adequate solution may be the school term school pedagogue, as it is most often found in the professional literature at the international level, but it is also the closest name used in a larger number of selected countries, so we’ll use term – pedagogue. On the other hand, considering that in Serbia there is an appointment as a professional associate in a school, we decided to use it as a dominant collective term that applies to all countries.

    Get PDF
In science subjects students must master knowledge well so that they are able to think critically to be able to solve problems related to the material, therefore learning tools are needed that can accommodate student activities so that learning objectives can be achieved. The aims of this research are: (1). To get an overview of the constraints experienced by teachers in preparing learning tools with the MIKiR approach (2). To get an overview of the extent of the teacher\u27s constraints in recognizing and implementing active learning with the MIKiR approach in training students\u27 critical thinking skills (3). To obtain an overview of the application of the type of assessment carried out by the teacher in measuring student learning outcomes and critical thinking skills. The data collection technique used observation with a survey method in the form of a questionnaire distributed to 6 schools in Muara Badak with 10 science teachers as respondents. Researchers obtained data from the recapitulation of answers to all respondents\u27 questionnaires, namely 1) The teacher had difficulty compiling learning tools so that they had implications when using learning devices in teaching and learning activities. From the survey results, it was obtained that 80% of respondents had difficulty compiling learning tools and 50% had difficulty using them in learning. 2). The teacher only knows active learning with the MIKiR approach but does not implement it in learning because he does not know the implementation steps. Data obtained 100% of respondents already know the MIKiR approach, but only 30% of respondents implement the MIKiR approach and 67% experience problems in implementing it. 3) The teacher\u27s lack of ability to assess critical thinking skills is caused by a lack of knowledge of critical thinking indicators. It was found that 80% of respondents knew a small proportion of critical thinking indicators but only 30% implemented these indicators. From the observation results, it was also obtained data that 100% of respondents felt the need and 80% of respondents were willing to implement the MIKiR approach in their schools. The need for assistance in the preparation of tools and modeling the MIKiR approach in training students to think critically in the hope that an increase in science learning outcomes will be obtained

Taxonomically Phalanger sp. or cuscus is a member of the Phalangeridae family, this animal has a distribution that is widely found in eastern Indonesia, has endemic status, its existence is legally protected because it is often hunted and consumed for food by the surrounding community. The study of molecular biology is one of the efforts in the management of cuscus conservation in Indonesia, namely by completing the database and molecular information in the Gene Bank so that later it is hoped that it can be used to trace kinship relationships. The aim of the study was to identify Phalanger sp. from Papua molecularly using COX1, ND4L, and 12S rRNA sequences. The methodology used is DNA isolated from blood samples of Phalanger sp. as template DNA in the amplification process by PCR. This study used 12S rRNA primers. The results showed that 12S rRNA could be used to identify Phalanger sp. while the COX1 and ND4L sequences have not been successfully used to identify Phalanger sp

    Herbarium – Biodiversity of UAE

    Get PDF
Plant biodiversity is a key component of a stable ecosystem that helps support life. The changing environmental conditions may have a huge effect on the plant ecosystem. Periodic studies of plant species and their adaptations may help conserve the biodiversity of UAE. Herbarium is a form of documentation of plant species living in a specific geographical area at a particular point in time. This study has attempted to document the flora of Dubai and its surroundings during the height of the pandemic in 2020 and obtain a record of its indigenous species surviving the harsh desert environment. The plants collected were recorded, classified and their statistics obtained. A total of 72 indigenous specious were documented and analyzed among which there were 7 species of trees, 28 species of shrubs, 27 species of herbs and 10 species of grasses. The indigenous species collected were studied individually in further detail and their utilization by the community was recorded. This herbarium is an exhaustive work featuring all possible indigenous species in UAE. It documents the ecology of UAE for future reference and to study and possibly prevent the damaging effects of global warming and rapid urbanization

Statistical Process Control Applied at Level Crossing Incidents

    Get PDF
Given the increased importance of accidents at level crossing (LC) and the enormous damage caused by these accidents, it will be useful to question the safety measures at LC. Different scenarios are studied to compare the performance of control charts (CC) for detecting upward shifts of the quotient between the magnitude X and the time between events (TBE) which corresponds to a process’s deterioration: TBE distribution is exponential and for X two situations were retained (normal and Gamma distribution). The database covering the period 2009-2018 is obtained from the Tunisian railway company and the objective is to specify the best CC to monitor the situation at LC’s. The T distribution CC alone as well as that relative to X distribution alone does not make it possible to detect overruns and therefore does not lead to effective control of the situation at the LC. Unlike some previous research, the CC corresponding to the quotient X & T also does not allow rapid detection of overshoots if T is considered exponential and X is assumed to be normal. The objective of setting up a CC that makes it possible to control the situation at the concerned LC is achieved in the case where T is exponential and X follows a gamma distribution. In this case, the CC corresponding to the quotient (Q) makes it possible to detect overshoots quickly

Social and Emotional Barriers in Online Graduate Counseling Programs: Recommendations for Effective Practice for Working with Hispanic Adult Learners

    Get PDF
Hispanic learners in higher education face unique challenges and barriers to success. An understanding of Adult Learning Theory through the lens of Hispanic culture is imperative, particularly in relation to both social and emotional barriers that are likely to disrupt the graduate learning process.  The responsibility to effectively lead and educate such learners falls into the hands of counselor educators in higher education. When considering ethnic diversity among adult learners, it is imperative to explore effective practice methodologies for students from specific cultures/ethnic origins. The purpose of this semi-systematic review was to explore the case of Jen, a Hispanic/Latina graduate student enrolled in an online masters in clinical mental health counseling program, and to synthesize implications for effective practice in educating and working with Hispanic students

    Get PDF
The study explores the impact of Treasury Single Account (TSA) on the performance of public sector in Sierra Leone. This study primarily examined the extent to which TSA has improved Government Collected Revenue (GCR) and Government Expenditure (GE) of the public sector. Secondary data that were sourced from the Ministry of Finance Sierra Leone were used for this research. The observations were recorded on yearly basis from 2015 to 2022. The data were divided into two periods: Pre TSA period (2015 to 2018) and Post TSA period (2019 to 2022). A pre-post analysis (difference in means test) was carried out using statistical package for social sciences version 25. The findings show that TSA implementation has a positive and significant effect on the revenue mobilization in Sierra Leone. However, further findings revealed that Government Expenditure (GE) significantly increased after the implementation of TSA. The study concludes that implementation of Treasury Single Account (TSA) has improved revenue generation in Sierra Leone. The study recommends that periodic appraisal of each revenue generating sector should be implemented so that some un-performing sectors are expose against the performing sectors

    Get PDF
This paper analyzes the transition from the traditional way of office work to work from home influenced by the pandemic. The analysis starts by laying out the general scene. It further shifts its focus on this phenomenon in the translation industry. Digital nomadism and work from home are a relatively new cultural phenomenon. They are a social variation that is upheld by the rapid development of telecommunication services and promoted by the rapid technological and social changes worldwide. Its promotion, however, has been boosted for more than two years now by the pandemic. It forced businesses to look for and find out new ways of work and performance in order to secure their survival amid a global crisis. Affected by the lockdowns across the globe, companies were concerned if they were going to make it through the crisis. Translation industry was also affected. Many analyses and polls dealing with the pandemic effect on businesses have been producing results from their research where workforce expresses their opinion in favour of the new way of work i.e. work from home, which makes it possible to balance work and private life. This paper may serve the purpose of furthering the analysis of the pandemic’s impact on other social elements
