Local Knowledge Based Ecosystem Management (Igya Ser Hanjop and Igya Hon Hanjop) In the Hatam Tribe in West Papua Indonesia
Get PDFLocal wisdom in protecting and managing the surrounding environment is an important component that must be prioritized when managing the environment and its resources. The Hatam tribe has lived for generations and managed the surrounding environmental resources well until now. This research aims to reveal environmental management strategies based on local knowledge of the Hatam tribe. The research was carried out in the Arfak Mountains area where the Hatam tribe lives. The research results show that the traditional knowledge-based management strategies that still exist are in the form of Igya ser hanjop and Igya hon hanjop, although in practice they are very rarely found. To overcome the loss of traditional knowledge practices which are increasingly rare, cooperation between the government, community, NGOs and universities as well as competent research institutions is needed so that local wisdom can be maintained and used as the basis for sustainable management in the Arfak Mountains
Gini Ratio Prediction by Estimating the Components Based on the Ybarra-Lohr Model Small Area Estimation with Estimated Sampling Variance
Get PDFGini ratio is one of the tools used to measure income inequality, so it is necessary to know the value of Gini ratio to a smaller regional level such as a subdistrict. According to Badan Pusat Statistik (BPS), the components of the Gini ratio are the average per capita expenditure and the relative frequency of households for each expenditure class in the subdistrict. Per capita expenditure data available through SUSENAS is designed to obtain national statistics down to the district level so that estimates are made for the level of subdistrict expenditure classes. Direct estimation for a small sample can cause significant standard errors therefore Small Area Estimation (SAE) with Logarithm Transformation is used to estimate the average per capita expenditure for each subdistrict expenditure class in Depok City 2020. The Ybarra-Lohr area-level model was used because of the availability of auxiliary data with measurement error. Previously, the sampling variance required for estimating the average per capita expenditure was estimated by comparing several estimation methods. As sampling variance estimation method, probability distribution produces an estimate of the average per capita expenditure with the smallest RRMSE, with a random effect variance and goodness of Ybarra-Lohr model are = 0.686 and = 0.929. The best result of the average per capita expenditure estimation for each expenditure class is used to obtain Gini ratio for each subdistrict in Depok City 2020
Evaluation of the Factors Affecting Classification Performance in Class Imbalance Problem
Get PDFIn binary classification, when the distribution of numbers in the class is imbalanced, we are aimed to increase the accuracy of classification in classification methods. In our study, simulated data sets and actual data sets are used. In the simulation, the "BinNor" package in the R project, which produces both numerical and categorical data, was utilized. When simulation work is planned, three different effects are considered which may affect the classification performance. These are: sample size, correlation structure and class imbalance rates. Scenarios were created by considering these effects. Each scenario was repeated 1000 times and 10-fold cross-validation was applied. CART, SVM and RF methods have been used in the classification of data sets obtained from both simulation and actual data sets. SMOTE, SMOTEBoost and RUSBoost were used to decrease or completely remove the imbalance of the data before the classification methods were applied. Specificity, sensitivity, balanced accuracy and F-measure were used as performance measures. The simulation results: the imbalance rate increases from 10 to 30, the effect of the 3 algorithms on the classification methods is similar accuracy. Because the class imbalance has become balanced

Cross-cultural Study of Traditional Georgian Cheese Tenili Among Georgian and French Populations
Get PDFTraditional cheeses made in small-scale farms has an important place in the cheese production all over the world. One of them is Tenili cheese originated from Southern Georgia, which has Geographical indication and an intangible cultural heritage status in Georgia. The present study evaluated cross-cultural differences among Georgian and French populations in the evaluation of Tenili cheese made with different technologies. A comparison of the sensory characteristics of cheese samples made by different technologies, ripening vessels and duration of ripening was carried out according to the RATA (Rate All That Apply) and hedonic tests. Familiarity and sensory characteristics of products have a huge impact on preferences. Liking of Tenili cheese is higher for Georgian population, where this type of cheese is not widely known, but its taste is similar to other Georgian cheeses, than for French population, where this type of cheese is not known at all. Both Georgian and French assessors prefer cheese made following to a non-traditional technology; a clear difference in liking among ripening materials between populations was not revealed; The five-month ripened cheese is a favorable by both the French and the Georgian populations
Connected Learning Initiative: A Novel Tool for Teacher Capacity Development in Nigeria
Get PDFAll three tiers of education in Nigeria (primary, secondary, tertiary) lay emphasis on STEM subjects. The methods and strategies employed by STEM teachers in most Nigerian schools have remained teacher-centred and textbook-oriented. This paper has brought together some elements of the innovation achieved in the Connected Learning Initiative (CLIx) to address the identified challenges in STEM education in Nigerian junior secondary schools through the CL4STEM project to build processes for long-term systemic dialogues and networking. CLIx was seeded by the Tata Trusts and led by TISS and MIT, USA, to strengthen secondary STEM learning, pedagogic content knowledge of teachers and their practice at scale in four states in India. The programme’s interactive STEM OERs, subject teacher CoPs on mobile devices, tech design for under-resourced context, participatory and localised ecosystem approach to adoption and scaling, are identified as innovative and scalable models. Data were collected in three phases, baseline, midline, and endline. The findings from interviews indicate that teachers\u27 understanding of CL4STEM innovation seem to improve from baseline to endline.At the baseline 2 teachers were still learning how to effectively navigate CL4STEM modules and Telegram group (CoPs) while none was at the endline. There is an increase in the number of teachers exploring ways of improving CL4STEM teaching strategies through further refinement of the modules and CoP participation and/or alternative ways of achieving better results from 1 at midline to 5 at endline. There is a decrease in the number of teachers that are exploring ways of collaboration with other teachers and educators to help impact student learning using CL4STEM teaching strategies from 11 at the midline to 3 at the endline. Other changes from baseline through midline to endline, generally positively, with respect to perception, voluntariness, relative advantage, compatibility, image, ease of use, research demonstrability, and visibility have been recorded here-in

The Use and Creation of the Spreadsheet for Teaching and Simulation of a Cooling Tower for Engineering
Get PDFDuring the Covid-19 Pandemic, many activities of engineering courses were paralyzed due to the impediment of using the physical facilities of universities, in particular the Federal University of Amazonas located in the heart of the forest. In order for the students to reduce their learning loss, the present work presents an iterative simulation in VBA of various equipment present in the manufacturing industry in the region, the choice to create their own simulations was due to the lack of budget for the purchase of a software. To validate the data found, these were compared with the literature, at the end of the discipline of manufacturing processes, the students also completed a satisfaction survey that showed that the use of low-cost virtual simulation tools was well accepted by the students
