Analyses of Students Choice of Public and Private Institution in Nigeria Using Game Theory BY
The factors influencing students\u27 decisions to attend private or public universities in Nigeria were examined using the minimax principle of two players playing zero sum games. In order to gather the necessary data, questionnaires were distributed to the target population of sampled public and private higher education institutions across the six geopolitical zones, taking into account the 23 factors that were identified as influencing people\u27s decisions between public and private schools. In a two-player zero-sum game, the acquired data were analyzed using the minimax theorem. The best approach and the game\u27s worth were identified. The approach\u27s results revealed that the game\u27s value was 127 (saddle point), indicating that it was favorable to public schools and indicating that the majority of pupils preferred public schools. The saddle point here implies that people like public schools because they are less expensive, but private schools owe their patronage to their conducive learning environment. This suggests that students\u27 decisions to enrol in university in Nigeria are significantly influenced by the cost of tuition and a positive learning environment. Additionally, the results of the Academic Staff Union of University\u27s (ASUU) industrial strike action are being used by prospective students to choose private universities over public universities
Determination of Stock Investment Risk Using the Multivariate Time Series Approach
Stock investment is putting money in stocks carried out in the long term with the hope of getting profits in the future. Investors make investments to get returns. Return is the result obtained from investment activities within a certain period. The higher the profits, the greater the risks faced by investors. To overcome the chance, it is possible to estimate the return in the future and calculate the risk that investors will likely obtain. The return includes time series data so that estimates can be made to determine its future value. One model that can be used to estimate stock returns is the transfer function. The transfer function combines ARIMA and regression analysis that can be applied to time series related to other variables. This study found that the daily stock return of PT. Cisadane Sawit Raya Tbk (CSRA) has a cross-correlation with Jakarta Composite Indeks (JKSE) during the daily stock return of PT. Salim Ivomas Pratama Tbk (SIMP) has a cross-correlation with JKSE and the exchange rate. The transfer function estimation results show that the RMSE value for CSRA is 0.24%. This value is greater than the RMSE value for SIMP, which is 0.01%. Meanwhile, from the results of risk testing on stock assets, it is found that the greater the level of trust used, the greater the risk of loss
Microfinance Institutions: Achievements and Challenges in the Second District of Albay
Achievements and challenges of microfinance institutions change the operation, products, and services to cater to the needs of low-income people. A nonviable microfinance institution will have problems with recruitment, repayment, and client retention. The client of the microfinance institution has no alleviation in their income, no change in their social status, and becomes poorer. This study determined the achievements and challenges of microfinance institutions in the Second District of Albay. The research design used in the study was quantitative, qualitative, pearson product moment correlation and t-test methods.
The study revealed that not all microfinance institutions in the Second District of Albay offered loans, savings, insurance, and other non-financial services to their clients. The financial sustainability of microfinance institutions in the second district of Albay is a problem when it comes to providing loan products and other services to clients. It affects the repayment performance and income alleviation of the clients. The analysis of the relationship between achievements and challenges in operation failed to show any statistically significant relationship for the total sample. Further analysis found no significant relationship between the variables in operation and products and services. Research on the market, institution, and client and having a strategic plan are important to microfinance institutions in diagnosing the problems that they faced and forecasting what will occur in the future
Ethnomathematics Exploration of the Toraja Tribe Tongkonan House\u27s Traditional Carving
This study investigates the mathematical ideas that are carved on the traditional tongkonan house of the Toraja tribe in Indonesia. This research is ethnographic and uses an ethnomathematical research model. Observational methods and in-depth interviews were employed throughout the data collection process, while ethnographic, domain, and taxonomic approaches were utilized during the data analysis process. The findings of this research indicate that the carving patterns found in this traditional house contain mathematical objects and concepts that are appropriate for use as a medium for learning mathematics in educational settings such as schools. The following mathematical ideas can be found embedded within these motifs: parallel lines, perpendicular lines, curved lines, rhombuses, conceptual congruence, symmetry, horizontal translation, arcs, areas of segments, squares, rectangles, and triangles. Measurement, estimation, and approximation have been identified as mathematical practices that were utilized in the process of making these engravings. Estimation and approximation are performed through the use of guesses that are still approximative and do not make use of standard mathematical principles, whereas measurement activities are carried out with standardized measuring equipment such as a ruler
Detection and Diagnosis of Breast Cancer Using an Ensemble Statistical Learning Method
Breast cancer is a malignant tumor that originates in the cells of the breast. It is the second leading cause of women’s death, after lung cancer. Moreover, the availability of medical data facilitates the development of related Artificial Intelligence Systems (AIS). The diagnosis (or classification) of breast cancer is a delicate task, which requires efficient and robust classifiers. However, classical classification methods (in which a single basic classifier ( estimator )) are generally confronted with the “bias-variance” dilemma. This, very often, affects seriously their efficiency and robustness. In this article, to mitigate this problem, we propose a new learning model called Triple-Stacking. This technique is composed of three (3) methods of statistical learning (Logistic Regression, Voting and Stacking) and a meta-learner (Decision Stump). The proposed model outperformed the existing ones on two different databases: Breast Cancer Wisconsin Original Data Set and Breast Cancer Wisconsin Diagnostic Data Set, with accuracies of 99.57% and 99.64%, respectively
Social Interaction of Visitor Communities the Existence of Several Types of Tourism Park in Bogor City West Java Province
The tourism industry has quite profitable prospects, depending on the direction of management. If the management is centralized or is in the interest of individuals or groups, it is impossible to achieve the ideals of ecotourism which is a civil industry that can increase regional income and employ hundreds of workers. The research objective is to explain community social interaction in tourist parks; Analyzing social, cultural and social ecology; Analyze. the role and contribution of tourism to local revenue. The research uses a phenomenological paradigm. Therefore, the approach used is the office approach, personal approach, statute approach and conceptual approach. Data were analyzed through content analysis and informant perceptions. Research shows that the social interaction that occurs in the Bogor tourist park is communication which is an important thing, namely the existence of mutual expression of good behavior in speaking, attitudes and even gestures to convey messages. By developing tourism, it can provide an opportunity for the community to open informal sector businesses such as food needs, clothing, souvenirs and others. Ecological studies study the relationship between organisms and their environment, such as existing deer wildlife. The tourism sector contributes significantly to the Realization of Hotel, Restaurant, Entertainment and Regional Original Income Tax Revenu
Natural Radioactivity Levels and Radiogenic Heat Production in River Sediments from Gulu and Amuru Districts, Northern Uganda
The activity concentrations (AC) of 238U, 232Th and 40K in sediments from Gulu and Amuru districts, Uganda were determined using NaI(Tl) detector at Physics Department, Makerere University, Kampala to obtain; radioelement concentrations (RC), radiogenic heat production (RHP) and associated heat flow (Hf). The AC varied from (36.1 ± 2.3 - 261.2 ± 15.3) for 238U, (97.4 ± 13.5 - 334.2 ± 36.6) for 232Th, and (47.5 ± 3.9 - 1442.3 ± 58.9) Bq kg-1 for 40K, with averages of 89.6 ± 6.3, 168.6 ± 17.9, and 275.4 ± 14.0 Bq kg-1, respectively, above the world limits of 35, 30, and 400 Bq kg-1, for 238U, 232Th and 40K. The RC varied from (2.9 ± 0.2 - 20.8 ± 1.2) ppm for 238U, (23.9 ± 3.3 - 82.0 ± 9.2) ppm for 232Th, and (0.2 ± 0.01 - 3.2 ± 0.1) % for 40K, with averages of 7.1 ± 0.5 ppm, 41.3 ± 4.3 ppm, and 1.1 ± 0.05%, respectively. The 238U and 232Th averages were above the Earth’s crust values of 3 ppm and 12 ppm, respectively. The 40K average is below the Earth’s crust value of 2.33%. The RHP varied from (2.5 ± 0.6 - 10.2 ± 2.6) µW m-3 with an average of 4.5 ± 1.1 µW m-3, above the world average of 4µW m-3. High and moderate RHP, each account for 50% of the samples. The overall RHP mainly depended on 232Th amounts, with 60% contribution. However, an increase in the AC of 238U, 232Th and 40K reflected the integrated effect of RHP. The Hf varied from (19.6 ± 1.0 - 80.0 ± 4.0) mW m-2 with an average of 35.3 ± 1.8 mW m-2. The high RHP and Hf values indicates feasibility for geothermal exploration. This calls for further studies to validate these findings
Spatial Regression of the Gross County Product of Kenya on Induced Latent Variables
Because of a very shallow study carried out to measure regional economic progress in Kenya, we were prompted to investigate on the role of geographical analysis in economic development. The induction of the Gross County Product (GCP) in 2013 had brought about a new viewpoint of assessing the economic growth pattern of Kenya from a single value of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) to a disaggregate measure that was inclusive of the contributive efforts from each county. Investigating the spatial dependence of this GCP on latent variables solved the error of model misspecification and proved the spill-over effect of the Kenyan economy at the county levels. The Local Indicator of Spatial Association (LISA) (Moran I test) revealed spatial clustering and the Lagrange Multiplier (LM) Test together with the spatial Hausman test suggested an error model fit. Meanwhile, the likelihood ratio test considered a restricted spatial model more suitable than the nested model. Not only was the economic pattern monitored but also a correct version of the 6 economic blocs of Kenya was developed by use of thematic maps where the counties were geographically classified according to the spatial implication
A 16-Year Retrospective Study Examining Socio-Demographic Factors among Suicide Decedents in Bolu Province, Northwestern Turkey
This study aimed to examine the socio-demographic features of completed suicides in Bolu province, northwestern Turkey, between 2003 and 2019, using corpse examinations and autopsy reports to provide epidemiological data with a view to helping prevent suicidal behavior. Of the 108 suicides examined, males accounted for 84.3%, and females accounted for 15.7%. The suicide rate was the highest in the 25–34 age groups and among those of an unknown marital status. Suicide in an unknown location in the group aged 24 years and below was significantly higher than among age groups, while the workplace was significantly higher in those aged 35–64 years. In both genders, the home and its surroundings comprised the leading location of the suicide event, with an unknown location found to be significantly higher in males. The most common suicide method was identified as hanging, with no statistically significant difference between demographic groups with respect to method, and the highest suicide rate was observed in 2016–2019. With regard to time of year, winter was found to be significantly higher among those aged 24–34 years, whereas those aged 65 years and above were likelier to die in spring or summer (p=0.014). Several risk factors were identified, most of which could be detected and resolved before the suicidal act. Studies such as this are extremely valuable for their contribution to preventing suicide by identifying such risk factors
Characterization of Farming System and Determinants of Adoption of Horticultural Enterprises in Achham, Nepal
Nepal\u27s rural agriculture is characterized by its diverse and interconnected system of farming. The Ghaghara/Karnali river system in the northwest of Nepal represents the typical rural farming system. A study was conducted in 2019 in the Mid-hill district of Achham, Nepal in the same river system with the aim of studying the farming system, its features, and different factors that influence the horticultural enterprise adoption by the farmers. A total of 130 respondents were selected from the Panchadewal Binayak Municipality of Achham district of Nepal using the multi-stage purposive random sampling approach. Beside the characteristics of Farming system; various factors that determine the horticultural enterprise adoption were examined using the binary logit regression model. The integrated or multi-enterprise farming system was found to be dominated by three primary enterprises: horticulture, livestock, and agronomy. The pattern of household participation in each enterprise under study was substantially the same, with almost three fourth of the household choosing main grain crops, and horticultural crops especially vegetables; around 85% adopting livestock in an integration system, and only about 13% fruit trees. The study demonstrated that among the many factors under inquiry, the gender of household head, size of the family and visit by the extension workers influences the farmer’s decision on adoption of horticultural enterprise significantly. Though non-significant, age, level of education, farming experience, agriculture as primary occupation and credit facilities also positively plays the role in decision of horticultural enterprise adoption. Ethnicity, years of residence in same location, dependency ratio, total land size, training and visit to extension worker were negatively associated with farmers\u27 decisions regarding horticulture enterprises. Thus, for the development of agriculture in rural areas with a higher adoption of horticultural enterprise which as higher potentialities in the rural agricultural system in Nepal, it is necessary to consider the role of various socioeconomic and personality variables in farmers decision to adopt the type of farm enterprise
