Laza [Bears - in honor of Spring!, 2023]
No full textThe little bear Laza woke up from a long winter sleep. Still sleepy and tucked in fallen leaves he was tucked into, he slowly emerges from his warm den. He is little scared, but his curiosity draws him towards the beauty of the new spring. While Laza bawls towards the rays of the sun, attracted by the scents of the forest, the breeze gently blows away the rot from his fur... The illustration speaks metaphorically about the turbulence of every change in life, but also points to the importance of having faith in a new beginning. The work was shown at the traditional exhibition "Bears - in honor of spring!", which was held in 2023 in the Belgrade gallery "UK Parobrod"

основна геометрија објекта, његове димензије,
оријентациона корисна квадратура и односи са суседним
објектима.

посебном окружењу које се зове окружење за концептуални

Get PDFAlthough it represents an important typology of cultural heritage, industrial heritage was unjustifiably neglected from the perspective of its preservation until the beginning of the 21st century. In addition to the observed need for protection, revitalisation and presentation of the value of industrial heritage as equally valuable material and immaterial remains of the past, the need for its integration into the contemporary context is increasingly being observed through examining the potential of its reuse. Therefore, at the University of Belgrade Faculty of Architecture, as part of classes in the field of industrial heritage preservation, through a defined multidisciplinary approach, the possibilities for the protection of the industrial heritage, preservation of the authenticity and spirit of the place, but also improvement of the industrial heritage's condition through the research of the potential of its reuse following contemporary needs are examined. The subject of this research refers to characteristical examples of the industrial heritage of the city of Belgrade, within which the possibilities of their preservation and reuse in the contemporary context were examined. The applied research methodology, which includes a combination of theoretical and in situ research, represents a multidisciplinary approach within which selected case studies are examined concerning their natural, urban architectural, historical and symbolic context. The research results are presented through students' conceptual solutions for preserving, integrating and reusing selected industrial heritage case studies. The presented students' conceptual solutions, which are created based on a previously defined set of criteria that ensure the simultaneous preservation
of the recognised values of industrial heritage and their improvement, represent an essential contribution to the development of thoughts about the position and potential of the reuse of industrial heritage in the contemporary context. The special contribution of this research refers to the possibilities of applying the theoretical research methodology in practice on concrete case studies of revitalisation, adaptation and reuse of industrial heritage
Toward a sustainable urban regeneration? Urban heritage between neoliberal forces and community preferences
Get PDFThe paper discusses a relationship between the neoliberal forces shaping
contemporary urban transformations and the social sustainability of recent regeneration
projects focused on urban heritage. Analysing two post-transitional cases, based on two
different approaches, the paper will provide an insight into the dominant processes influencing
both practices, as well as their anticipated/announced social sustainability and its achieved
level.The first case is from Serbia - the Power Plant "Power and Light‖ - which was the first
one generating alternating current in Belgrade. Located in the Dorcol area, this ex-industrial
setting is situated close to the city center. Since 2005, the entire area has undergone a
significant transformation into a luxurious residential and commercial complex, initiated by
private investors and directed by city authorities in order to change the previous urban
image.The second case, the Contemporary Art Center in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, represents different
approach. Created in 1997, the center is a non-governmental organisation of public interest. In
1995 the Municipality of Plovdiv obtained the right to locate the center within the remains of
the ancient baths of Rome, which were rebuilt under the Turkish Empire. As the 16th century
monument, the building belonged to the municipality and in 2004, the three-year period of
support started, provided by the association Art Today (the Swiss cultural program), as well as
the National Heritage Fund in Bulgaria.The analysis will be based on the selected principles of
social sustainability, simultaneously highlighting the problems of heritage (re)use and
regeneration in a challenging global environment of uncertain financial flows and shifting local
governmental priorities, which could put on hold or totally ignore the aspect of social
sustainability
The diffusion of participatory planning ideas and practices: the case of socialist Yugoslavia, 1961-1982
Get PDFAlthough both praised and contested for its advanced conceptual elaboration and ineffective practical implementation, respectively, participatory planning has largely been considered a Yugoslav national legacy and a point of diversification compared with other similar contexts. However, there has been little research on the roots and features of public participation as observed through the lens of international influences on Yugoslav spatial and urban planning. By identifying the main channels (professional networks and events) and nodes (planning organizations and documents) in the diffusion of participatory planning ideas at both the international and national levels, we trace the evolution of citizen participation discourse in Yugoslavia. Based on archival research of the relevant documents (selected articles in professional journals, decrees, and plans), the paper examines the authenticity of the concept of citizen participation in Yugoslavia to, finally, elucidate the specificities of its implementation in the context of socialist self-management
Regional Industrial Policy in the Western Balkans: Neither Specialization nor Spatialization?
Get PDFThis paper analyzes post-socialist industrial development and policy in the Western Balkans through the lens of its regional specialization and spatial concentration. Against a conceptual framework revolving around place-based industrial policy, and using the Concentration index (modified Herfindahl-Hirschman index) and location coefficients (Balassa index), a comparative analysis over three decades (1990–2020) highlights weak regional diversification and intra-regional integration of industrial activity. The findings offer a new industrial policy that transcends regional specialization and spatial concentration to address regional development, planning and governance. The concluding remarks reveal some basic paths toward effective and pro-European regional industrial policy in the Western Balkans
URBANISM + TOURISM: Educating Students through Urban Studio Projects in Golubac Town, the Iron Gates in Eastern Serbia
No full textTourism is one of hardly predictable albeit the fast-developing economic sectors today. This is also evident in Serbia, where one of the main new tourist routes is the Danube. The Iron Gates, as the longest European gorge on the river with specific nature and preserved cultural heritage and tradition, are particularly significant in these matters. The gorge is shared by Serbia and Romania. All localities in Serbian right riverside, completely remote just 10 years ago, have had the intensive tourism development last years.
Golubac, a town on the western edge of the gorge, has also had the fuelled rise of tourism due to the recent reconstruction of magnificent Golubac Fortress. However, this has opened many questions regarding sustainable urban development. Local government and experts in Golubac and team from the Faculty of Architecture in Belgrade have jointly tried to address the most triggering urban issues through three international projects: INTERREG DANUrB (2017-2019), DANUrB+ (2020-2022) and Erasmus+ CREATIVE DANUBE (2019-2022). The core of this cooperation was based on work with students, through urban ‘planning + design’ studios. Hence, more than 200 students have learnt about urban planning and design in tourism-driven urban environment.
This paper is the presentation of the results from this joint cooperation through higher education with Golubac Town. Its aim is to understand students’ stance relating urban development and cultural tourism and how this combination has reflected through their visions, projects and chosen micro-locations for urban interventions. Nevertheless, this paper is not just a retrospective on the currently significant collection of student works for Golubac, but it also intends to form recommendations for the further development of education in tourism-driven urban development
