Digital Architectural Archives – Aesthetic Reading
No full textMy aim in this paper is to examine the impact of digital technology on the perception
and practice of architecture. Online activities leave discernible traces, challenging the
traditional ontological view of the subject’s independence from the material world. I will offer
an exploration of the Internet’s role as the primary communication medium transforms architectural
practice, emphasizing digital archives and distribution. Platforms like Pinterest,
ArchDaily, and Instagram have transformed how architectural practices are shared and consumed,
cultivating a new culture of multimodal communication. Within this context, I will
discuss how digital technologies have profoundly altered perceptions of materiality, space, and
information. I will explore how architects and artists now operate within an interconnected
network of social, economic, and technological forces, moving away from traditional media
to embrace digital fragmentation. This shift impacts how architectural objects are perceived,
from complete forms to fragmented digital representations that are accessible to a global audience

Megaevents – afterlife : the issue of ephemeral transition
No full textRazvoj megadogađaja kao sredstva otvaranja grada prema svetu dovodi do nastanka sportskih megadogađaja u programskom aspektu, a posledice na grad u prostornom smislu predstavljaju intenzivne i masovne transformacije urbanih poteza. Ove transformacije podrazumevaju razvoj urbanih teritorija i generisane su različitim internim i eksternim uticajima. Pojam megadogađaj obuhvata širok obim manifestacija, a u kontekstu rada posmatran je fenomen sportskih događaja velikih razmera, međunarodnog i privremenog karaktera, koji zbog svojih dimenzija zahtevaju značajnu modifikaciju infrastrukture i izgradnju novih prostornih struktura, najčešće u zoni periferije grada. Privremeno redefinisanje pejzaža periferije dovodi do rapidnog razvoja te teritorije, efemerne tranzicije i indukovane centralizacije, odnosno ad hoc transformaciju liminalne teritorije u izgrađenu megastrukturu koja odgovara kratkoročnim potrebama planiranog megadogađaja. U raskoraku između veštačkog urbanog i prirodnog perifernog – dolazi do kolizije dve strukture koje treba da uspostave suživot, a posledično i do potencijalnih pretnji po integritet periferije, koja,
iako slabijeg urbaniteta, predstavlja sastavni element ekosistema grada. U tom kontekstu, postavlja se pitanje koje posledice izazivaju strukture izgrađene u svrhu realizacije megadogađaja nakon njihove upotrebe? Na koji način se artikulišu uticaji ovih transformacija na bezbednosni sistem teritorije u kontekstu održivosti, ekonomskog aspekta, ali i fizičke bezbednosti? Težište rada fokusirano je na sagledavanje rezilijentnosti periferije, kao i detektovanje opasnosti efemernih tranzicija. The Transition of Scale: New Approaches in Examining Spatial Sensations from Urban Vegetation in the Context of Interior Architecture
No full textIn current times, people are spending more time indoors than outside due to the combined effects of industrialization, globalization, and rapid urbanization. In fact, recent studies assert that contemporary lifestyles result in individuals spending the majority of their daytime time indoors. Many public institutions, jobs and services have transitioned to online spaces, making it so that humans barely have to leave the “comfort” of their homes. But what does that comfort represent and how can we measure it? In this research, our goal is to discover if by using artificial intelligence as a methodological approach to analyze human emotions and behavior, we can further explore how interior architecture can affect human wellbeing. With all of these spaces slowly transitioning from exterior to interior, we find it important to examine this issue. Through our study of comfort parameters in interior architecture, vegetation has been identified as a significant factor. Numerous studies have previously demonstrated its beneficial effects on human psychological and physiological health. There is a noticeable gap in the literature regarding its impact on interior architecture, though, as the majority of studies have concentrated on outdoor green areas. By using experimental methodology alongside a literature review, we aim to contribute to the understanding of emotional reactions to the presence of vegetation in indoor spaces, and how these insights can be integrated into the architectural design process
Measuring the quality of streets as open public spaces in the city center in Belgrade, Serbia
Get PDFThe quality of the environment is of vital importance for urban areas,
and streets and squares, as the specific form of open public space, represent
an essential part of the city. In urban areas, total road traffic
kilometres will grow by 40 % between 1995 and 2030. This particular
research focuses on the secondary streets that represent an integral
part of a city center not only in a functional way but also in a formal,
structural and cultural sense.
The research aims to analyze the overall quality of urban streets in the
center of Belgrade. The paper represents the segment of the research
done alongside approximately 500 students from the University of Belgrade,
Faculty of Architecture, as a part of the teaching course entitled:
Urban Design of Open Public Space as the research polygon of more
than 100 streets from the central urban borough in Belgrade were chosen.
The principal methodology is based on the Criteria & Indicators
network analysis, with five selected quality criteria: safety, comfort,
accessibility, readability, and liveability.
Results of the research represent the quality assessment of streets,
identifying specific problems and potentials in the context of open
public space in the city center. Therefore, one of the expected contributions
of the paper are the guidelines and knowledge base for upgrading
the pedestrian network and urban design of open public space - the
streets in Belgrade's inner historical city center, thus improving the

Legibility vs. readability – Between transport planning and pedestrian behaviour
No full textPedestrian behaviour is defined by a significant number of factors, but the readability of space is one of the key prerequisites for observation and all other pedestrian activities. The focus of the paper is on the relation between legibility and readability. By analogy space with the written text, legibility is focused on small parts and signs, while readability is based on the whole and on associations, that are emerging in our minds with possible common space usage scenarios. This paper tries to divide which urban elements affect legibility, and which one on readability for pedestrians to help transform networks in neighbourhoods between transport planning and pedestrian behaviour. Interesting areas for analysis are overlaps of pedestrian and road traffic. So, the study area is mega blocks in New Belgrade - block 23 and block 30, especially the parts of the pedestrian network. This approach starts by identifying key elements of legibility and readability and analysing how the road traffic affects the pedestrian network and supported activities in mega blocks. The methodology consists of forming evaluation criteria based on literature review and examining it in the study area through behavioural observations. After the assessment and analysis are done, the results as the elements in two groups of perception data can contribute to guidelines for redesigning the space in the function of pedestrian movement

No full textИмператив очувања животне средине, изазови одрживости и отпорности на климатске промене, преузимају кључну улогу у дефинисању савремене архитектонске праксе као и теоријским и технолошким истраживањима. Последњих година, у домену архитектуре и урбанизма, сведоци смо трансформација које се огледају у свим аспектима и размерама. Рад од куће мења режим коришћења и елементе стамбеног простора, дневна кретања, понекад и слику града; алтернативни видови превоза мењају динамику и највећих метропола а савремене технологије омогућавају да се различити послови веома успешно воде и обављају и са веома удаљених локација. Управо те промене представљају нови потенцијал за мање средине, које сада могу да понуде савременије садржаје и развију заиста одрживе стратегије развоја.
У књизи ”Студентски планови за Велику Плану” изложена је методологија рада на студију ”Клима као контекст” и пратећем семинару ”Незадрживо одрживо” у две равни: као специфичан приступ изучавању и усвајању материје везане за биоклиматску, енергетски ефикасну и одрживу архитектуру који је развијан током претходних десет година радом на студио пројектима на различитим локацијама (Београд, Златибор, УАЕ, Сенегал, Велика Плана, Француска) и као конкретан пример примене изложене методологије на локацијама у Великој Плани.
У сарадњи са Општином Велика Плана, студенти архитектонског факултета у Београду су имали прилику да за једну од изабраних локација предложе савремени програм и одговарајуће архитектонско решење, имајући у виду наведене тенденције али и специфичности локалних услова. Пројекти су рађени током пролећног семестра школске 2022/2023 године, у оквиру студио пројекта М02-АТ ”Клима као контекст: старо и ново у Великој Плани” и пратећег семинара ”Незадрживо одрживо”. Студио је водила Наташа Ћуковић Игњатовић, уз учешће гостујућег наставника арх. Нанде Корпника са Универзитета у Марибору и асист. арх. Тијане Жишић.The environmental imperative, the challenges of sustainability, resilience and climate change, play a key role in defining contemporary architectural practice as well as theoretical and technological research. Recently, we have witnessed changes in the domain of architecture and urban planning, that are reflected in all aspects and scales. Working from home transforms the relations and the elements of living space, daily movements, sometimes even the image of the city; alternative means of transportation are changing the dynamics of some of the largest metropolises, while modern technologies enable various jobs to be successfully managed and performed even from very remote locations. These changes unlock a new potential for smaller towns and communities, which can now offer more modern content and develop truly sustainable development strategies.
The book "Student Plans for Velika Plan" presents the methodology for the study "Climate as Context" and the accompanying seminar "Unstoppable Sustainability" on two levels: as a specific approach to studying and mastering material related to bioclimatic, energy-efficient, and sustainable architecture developed over the past ten years through design studio projects in various locations (Belgrade, Zlatibor, UAE, Senegal, Velika Plana, France), and as a concrete example of applying the presented methodology to locations in Velika Plana.
The students had the opportunity to propose a contemporary program and an appropriate architectural design for one of the locations chosen in cooperation with the Municipality of Velika Plana, bearing in mind the mentioned tendencies as well as the specifics of local conditions. The projects were designed during the spring semester of the academic year 2022/2023, within the studio project M02-AT "Climate as context: old and new in Velika Plana" and the accompanying seminar "Unsustainable sustainable". The studio was led by Nataša Ćuković Ignjatović, with the participation of guest teacher arch. Nande Korpnik from the University of Maribor and assistant arch.
