Research of public open spaces in areas of multi-family housing in Serbian cities [33rd International Urban Planners' Exhibition, 2024] [1st prize]
Истраживање јавних отворених простора (ЈОП) спроведено је као активност пројекта „Reclaiming Public Open Space in Residential Areas: Shifting Planning Paradigms and Design Perspectives for a Resilient Urban Future – RePOS“, у оквиру ПРИЗМА програма Фонда за науку Републике Србије. Истраживање обухвата in situ анализу ЈОП-а у одабраним градовима у Србији, који су представници различитих величинских категорија (Београд, Ниш, Лесковац, Бор). У овим градовима је извршена инвентаризација типичних насеља вишепородичног становања, укључујући и наслеђена и новоизграђена насеља. Анализиране су карактеристике ЈОП-а у одабраним насељима коришћењем скупа просторних, функционалних, социо- економских и еколошких критеријума, у циљу утврђивања типологије ЈОП-а.The research of public open spaces (POS) was carried out as an activity of the project „Reclaiming Public Open Space in Residential Areas: Shifting Planning Paradigms and Design Perspectives for a Resilient Urban Future – RePOS“, within PRISMA Program of the Science Fund of the Republic of Serbia. The research includes an in situ analysis of POS in chosen cities in Serbia, which are representatives of different size categories (Belgrade, Niš, Leskovac, Bor). An inventory of typical multi-family housing settlements in these cities was performed, including inherited and newly built ones. Characteristics of POS were analyzed in selected settlements, by using a set of spatial, functional, socio-economic and environmental criteria, with the aim of determining POS typology.1. Improving the placemaking design process: Possibilities of artificial intelligence
The future of urban space and placemaking depends on the role of information and
communications technology (ICT), and the importance of their networks should be
reconsidered since they are an irreplaceable part of everyday life. This chapter explores
the potential of how ICT and artificial intelligence (AI) can interfere with placemaking,
a process that strengthens the connection between people and places they share.
Placemaking refers to a collaborative process by which citizens can shape their public
realm in order to maximise its quality. AI technologies can play a significant role in
placemaking, as they can help create more efficient and user-friendly urban spaces.
AI has the potential to improve the way people interact with their environment. By understanding how people interact with their surroundings in modern times, it is
potentially possible to create more effective placemaking strategies for the future.
There will be presented analyses of alternative urbanisation models that used technology
as their primary tool to find a successful urban equation in order to adjust to
numerous changes that are happening in cities today. This chapter aims to present the
theoretical model that discusses how ICT, AI and social media can be used to create
more efficient and effective placemaking processes, as well as how AI can be used to
create more meaningful and engaging places. The places refer to physical, virtual and
combined places of augmented reality. Involving AI in the design process reinvents the
role of architects and thus reinvents placemaking as a collaboration between people,

Material Efficiency: Pattern Design Techniques for 3D Printed Rib-Stiffened Floor Systems
The rib-stiffened concrete slabs have been in development and use for over a century due to their potential to reduce material consumption. Manufacturing ribbed concrete slabs with an even greater degree of geometric complexity than before is now possible because of advances in digital fabrication, mainly 3D printing technology. The main goal of this paper is to analyse and classify rib configuration patterns used in slab design in order to determine the underlying principles of generation and the potential of their application for 3D printed slabs. The first part of this paper reviews the development of ribbed slab systems over the last century, focusing on identifying the applied pattern types. Based on the results of this analysis, the identified patterns are then systematically classified. In the second part, the paper focuses on recognizing different methods and tools of digital pattern generation to assess the potential and challenges of their application in the design process of structural slab elements. Finally, using case study methodology, selected pattern configurations are applied in the digital design and fabrication of nonstandard rib-stiffened floor systems. The pattern configurations were computationally generated and applied to create 3D digital models of rib-stiffened slabs. The scale prototypes of digital models are then fabricated using 3D printing technology. Finally, the effectiveness of the models and prototypes in relation to the applied pattern configurations is evaluated. The results of this paper are part of ongoing research into 3D printed rib-stiffened slabs and are to be used and further verified in the next stage through model tests
Justiniana Prima. Stranded Naves. [abstract]
An Arcadian landscape situated in the heart of the Balkans, away from the main roads of the modern time, hides an archaeological site known to locals as the Empress City. Although, this is not the empress, whose beauty complements the image of the greatest Byzantine ruler on the magnificent mosaics in Ravenna, it seems as though this name keeps the evidence of still unveiled plaque with its historic name. The hypothesis that the Empress City is actually Justiniana Prima was presented in 1922 by Professor Vladimir Petkovic, who was its first professional explorer. This riddle still levitates over continuous researches of archaeology, geology and bio-forensics. The story about this city relies on numerous facts about one of the most exciting constructions of the 6th century A.D. Archaeological and morphological expressiveness like no other, more than anything else, confirms the ruler’s fascination with the beauty of construction. The thrill of the fact that there is a truth which is impossible to track, creates the potentials of the architecture that renounces its recurred incidence and abides to its original idea. Thus, the narratives entwined in the structure of this text represent the architecture per se. The new chapters in access to this topic have been opened: 1) in the context of Sloterdijk, the relation between the society, symbols and their mythological confirmation are examined, 2) the Palladian approach reveals the erosion of the forms for the purpose of material evidence on the lapse of time, and 3) provides the Scruton-like conclusion on the superimposed spatial experience. In that sense, Justiniana Prima, just like the stranded naves, scrapes the horizons on the architectural voyage planned long time ago, where the size of material insufficiencies is proportionate to mythological fullness of the designed sublimity
TRE:E – Competition proposal for the design of the Congress center in Trebinje [33rd International urban planners’ exibition]
Kонцепт пројекта инспирисан је географским карактеристикама шире локације, које спадају у категорију кршевитог пејзажа и које у великој мери одражавају и утичу на морфолошку структуру града Требиња. Пројекат истражује складну комбинацију комплексности природног окружења, уз очување јединствености израза, чиме се ствара интегрисано просторно искуство које оживљава пејзаж, док интерактивни елементи и инсталације у јавном простору доприносе његовој динамици. Креирање енергетске трансверзале служи као кичма развоја целокупног комплекса и утиче на распоред улица и зграда, стаза и јавних простора.The design concept is inspired by the geographical characteristics of the wider location, which fall into the category of karst landscape and which largely reflects and influences the morphological structure of the city of Trebinje. The project explores the harmonious combination of the complexity of the natural environment while preserving the uniformity of expression, thus creating an integrated spatial experience that enlivens the landscape while interactive elements and installations in the public space contribute to its dynamism. The creation of an energy transversal serves as a backbone of the development of the entire complex and influences the layout of streets and buildings, paths and public spaces
Neinvazivne metode procene performansi omotača arhitektonskih objekata
Contemporary architectural practice is characterized by the pursuit of high levels of energy efficiency, which results in the application of complex calculation methods and performance simulations during the design of buildings. Simultaneously, the construction process and, especially, the certification of completed buildings are generally much less controlled, and performance verification is typically conducted only when noticeable deficiencies are identified. The need to develop a methodology that would enable adequate diagnostics of the condition and determination of the degree of deviation from desired performance has led to an approach based on the combination of two non-invasive investigative methods: infrared imaging and heat flux measurement. When properly applied, these methods can accurately determine actual performance. This paper presents the application of an investigative procedure based on the combination of these methods in real life conditions, where various levels of deficiencies have been identified and quantified, having extremely negative consequences on the performance of buildings and compromising the basic comfort conditions for users.Rad po pozivu / Invited pape
