Referentiality of Generic Structures: Critique of Capitalist Urban Development in Works of Ludwig Hilberseimer, Archizoom, and Dogma Studio
This article is based on the analysis of the referential relationship within three concepts for the development of the urban matrix: High-rise City by Ludwig Hilberseimer (1924), No-Stop City by studio Archizoom Associati (1969), and Stop City by architectural office DOGMA (2007). The three projects represent a critique of the growth and development of the city within the economic system and the sociocultural context of the time. This research argues that each project finds its formal expression through referencing the former, adopting the programmatic, formative, and linguistic structures, which enable the reading of the authors’ interpretations and positions in relation to the generic properties of the urban matrix. Furthermore, the research aims to reveal the referential relationship between the aforementioned projects by comparing the critical positions they represent and the elements that constitute them
Implementing the concept of Albergo Diffuso through urban planning: the case of “venac” historic core in Sombor, Serbia
‘Albergo Diffuso’ is an innovative concept in urban planning and design, where a hotel is dispersed through urban fabric, usually occupying several historic buildings under one ownership in a smaller community – village, town or small city. In this way, Albergo Diffuso enables their guests to easily participate in local urban life. The roots of the concept are were related to the urban decline of small historic settlements in Italy in the late 20th century. Hence, this concept belongs to international efforts to regenerate small shrinking cities as a new normality in urbanisation. However, two concepts – Albergo Diffuso and shrinking cities – have not been adequately interlinked; usually the physical aspect (‘design’) of Albergo Diffuso has been in spotlight. The other important issues, such as the adaptations of local urban planning and regulative documents and their impact on local property market have not been properly considered.
This is the presentation of one such attempt in the City of Sombor in northwestern Serbia. Sombor ‘old town’, known as “Venac/Coronet”, is under state protection as the best-preserved core of any medium sized city at national level. Nevertheless, the relative isolation of Sombor from major communication corridors has caused its significant economical and demographic shrinkage last decades. The recent development of cultural tourism along the nearby Danube has slowed this process, but it has also imposed new challenges for the urban heritage of Sombor, such as a collision between developing property market and the aforementioned protective measures for local heritage. One of the efforts of local authorities to mediate this is to create a new urban plan for “Venac”, where local urban experts propose innovative measures, including regulations for Albergo Diffuso projects. The aim is to explain work on this plan and expected effects on urban development and local property market. Adhesive Type Influence on the Compressive Strength of Beech LVL Reinforced with Carbon Fiber Fabric
In this research, nine-layer reinforced laminated veneer lumber
(RLVL) was produced using beech veneer by inserting woven carbon fibers between
the veneer sheets. Panels were made in industrial circumstances with two types
of adhesives - phenol-formaldehyde (PF) and polyurethane adhesive (PUR). The
research aims to determine the influence of adhesives on the compressive strength
in two directions of beech LVL reinforced with woven carbon fibers and its potential
for use in load-bearing building structures. The experimental data was verified by
the ANOVA model. Reinforced LVL produced using PF adhesive was stronger
than those produced using PUR adhesive by 17.88% in longitudinal direction and
by 31.89% in transverse direction. This research is part of an effort to encourage
the implementation of hardwoods, especially beech, as renewable and ecologically
sustainable material with long term use in load-bearing building structures

Chromatic numbers for facet colouring of some generalised associahedra
The chromatic number related to a colouring of facets of certain classes of generalised associahedra is studied. The exact values are obtained for permutohedra, associahedra and simple permutoassociahedra, while lower and upper bounds are established for cyclohedra and stellohedra. The asymptotic values of the chromatic numbers for associahedra, cyclohedra and simple permutoassociahedra are given

Овај графички експеримент је визуелна интерпретација неопходности сталне борбе (личне, друштвене, егзистенцијалне...) у условима изазовног карактера данашњег времена. На тему се одговара кроз симболичан цртеж у комбинацији са стихом Петра Петровића Његоша "Нека буде борба непрестана, нека буде што бити не може". Динамичност теме се наглашава и кроз графички третман елемената - цртеж и део типографије су штампани на папиру, а преостала типографија је штампа на стаклу на дистанци од пар центиметара
Energy [Međunarodna izložba "Teslin lik i delo", 2024] [1. nagrada - kategorija dizajn] i [2. nagrada - ukupan plasman]
Digitalna grafika "Energy" predstavlja savremenu vizuelnu interpretaciju lika Nikole Tesle, baziranu na čuvenoj fotografiji iz 1890. godine, čiji je autor Napoleon Sarony, poznati američki fotograf toga vremena. Kroz bogat kolorit, grafika ukazuje na energiju i Teslinu kreativnu snagu, dok sam intenzitet boja dočarava neprolazne vrednosti njegovog stvaralaštva. Vođen istinskim čovekoljubljem, Tesla je svoje delo nesebično podario generacijama koje dolaze, a kao svojevrsno zaveštanje čovečanstvu, njegove inovacije su spojile ljude različitih identiteta, jezika i kultura. Ilustrajući tu plemenitu misiju, boje na radu se suptilno pretapaju i međusobno prožimaju, podsećajući nas na večnu energiju Teslinog bića. Rad je dobio prvu nagradu u kategoriji Dizajn na međunarodnoj izložbi "Teslin lik i delo", kao i drugu nagradu u ukupnom plasmanu; izložba je održana u beogradskoj Galeriji Nikola Radošević, u okviru manifestacije Dani Nikole Tesle 2024.Rad je nagrađen sa dva priznanja: prva nagrada - kategorija dizajn i druga nagrada - ukupan plasman
Graph-Based Problem-Solving and Representation: Levels of Deployment in Computational Design Process [abstract]
The paper addresses the question of 'dependency graph'-based problem-solving and representation method deployment regarding decomposition levels of the computational design process and subject or problem of computation. The importance of determining deployment levels, including 1. the level of a complete design problem-solving algorithm (metalevel process propagation graphs), 2. the level of smaller problem-solving clusters of methods (specific operations graphs, or sequential process propagation graphs), and 3. the level of content (subject-based graph aspects, including formal network-graph congruency), has been recognised within the need to clarify, in a systematised way, the graphs' use, pursuing elaboration of each application level’s scope or problem-solving coverage, and complexity considering the subject of analysis and representation. The study supports the aim of developing new and optimised process workflows and better informed conduct when approaching computational design problems and tasks, leading to a higher standard of performance at each scale and construction/design stage of the computational problem-solving path. ••• In that respect, the experimental case of dependency (network and navigation) graph application in the field of architectural and urban computing, realised in Grasshopper, is used to support stated arguments through factual details. The structure and results of thereby created graphs, based on the investigated subjects of transportation infrastructure design and analytics, dynamic localisation, and path-finding, are parsed in a way that best corresponds to the intended instructional explanation. The chosen case study provides supporting evidence in the form of graph-based workflows and formal outputs resulting from their propagation; e.g. it supplements arguments diagrammatically, providing illustrations of the stated points. Such factual evidence grounds its proving strength on the claim that diagrams are considered instruments of strategic reasoning, inferring, problem-solving, decision-making, and representation, while graphs (wiring diagrams), as one of their subforms, are considered to have the same capacities and are applied in line with this claim
The aspects of urban safety in the context of illegal urbanisation
This paper deals with the aspects of urban security manifested in
illegal/informal settlements and the problems of urban transformation of these
settlements from the point of view of urban security. Globally, the share of these
settlements is extremely large, and the number of inhabitants has long exceeded
one billion. At the same time, the problem of illegal settlements in larger urban
centres in Serbia has been present for several decades, and the total number of
illegal buildings exceeds 2 million. Belgrade, as the capital of Serbia and an area
under tremendous demographic pressure, has over 30 illegal settlements and many
more parts of the settlements that are under the impact of illegal urbanisation.
According to (UN-HABITAT2007), there are three primary threats to urban security
and safety in the city: crime and violence, tenure insecurity and forced
evictions, and natural and man-made disasters. Exposure to risks in the urban
environment is significantly higher than in planned parts of the city. Urban security
and safety risks in these settlements are numerous and diverse and include a wide
range of problems related to urban crime, various communicable and noncommunicable
diseases, waste disposal, landslides, floods, weak infrastructure,
insufficient access to health services, and more..
