Reconstruction and extenson of Dedinje villa [BAB 2019]
The derived object represents a complex, multi-year reconstruction of a pre-war villa from 1936. The building has undergone several reconstructions and expansions from the year of its construction until the last change of ownership. Originally, the villa was designed as a single-story family house with a separate carriage entrance and a main entrance facing a large plot of land, which was treated as a private garden area, while the service entrance was oriented towards the street.
Post-war architectural interventions transformed the villa into a multi-family residential structure with a significantly reduced plot of land. The next upgrade incorporated the architectural style of the time it was built, reflecting the societal situation that left its mark on post-war Belgrade.
The latest reconstruction began in 2009, driven by the new owners' desire to preserve the historical character of the property while accommodating modern lifestyle trends. The primary purpose of the building is residential, but due to the possibilities offered by the existing structure, it was possible to address the requirements related to work and entertainment. By carefully integrating additional structures into the existing framework, the inherited form of the building is clearly structured. Tertiary elements, such as awnings, fulfilled technological requirements, while functionally achieving a complete separation of the outdoor living area from the primarily traffic-oriented access zone.
Architecturally defined landscape areas provide ample opportunities for developing a green belt and water features that further enhance the space. Unusually for this type of residence, the reconstruction was finally completed in 2019, a whole decade after it began
Fluid Dynamic Simulations as Conceptual Design Drivers in Shaping Architectural Structures
This research is motivated by the emergent computational technologies and tools based on Fluid Dynamic Simulations that currently find their application in architecture, and particularly in the discourses of generative, digital, and performance-oriented design. The key goal is to review the potentials and constraints of performance-driven strategies that involve the assistance of these tools in shape exploration in the conceptual phase of the design process. Within the research framework of the design case studies, we obtained results that illustrate the effectiveness of the suggested approach for shaping distinctive, unconventional structural typologies with improved physical performances
Doha Metro Network, Doha, Qatar, 2012-2019
UNStudio has won the competition to design 33 metro stations in Doha with a themed design - vaulted spaces. My role was to work on the layout and design of the overground shelters as recognizable branded elements in the urban space. My research was to define and optimize the vertical transportation infrastructures and adapt it to a variety of urban situations where the airconditioned shelters are located throughout the city. A modular shell system is designed to adapt to all the urban
situation, depths and access logistics of the stations. I was developing a family of basic modules that integrated structure, skylights and MEP exhausts, and a family of additional extensions to provide more shade and give a unique look to the shelters. As I had experience with the overground structures, in DD phase I was given a chance to lead the design for the development of a similar modular system and design of the generic elevated stations (GEI). Several GEI type stations were built in the city of Doha. The biggest experience in this project was to communicate all the information through a large team and to provide to the client a “branding manual” book to ensure maintaining the design quality - knowing that 10 different contractors will build the stations.International Award 2020, Chartered Institute of Highways and TransportationNapomena administratora: Autorski tim je naveden od strane Nemanje Kordića
Architecture as a textual phenomenon: Alexander Brodsky’s architectural practices of appropriation
This paper analyzes architecture created through appropriating existing
materials while focusing on strategies of intertextuality. The paper argues that the
meaning of an architectural object does not derive from itself, or its poetic concepts,
but rather from its relationship with other architectural objects, other art works as
texts, cultural texts, and everyday practices. My aim is to show various theoretical
problems of the theory of architecture and art which, as a network of overlapping
texts of culture, surround the architectural production of Brodsky. Here I use different
and varied theoretical concepts, selecting two case studies by Brodsky (The Pavilion for
Vodka Ceremonies and Rotunda) upon which the paper is based as an interdiscursive
study.Editors: Nataša Janković, Boško Drobnjak and Marko Nikoli
Exclusive Territories: Free Space and Island Conditions
This paper employs a theoretical platform of conceptually converged cosmopolitical and cosmoscopic perspectives on issues of exclusive territories and extrastate activities (conflicting or overlapping State and State, or State and non-State interests, implying governmental, intergovernmental, nongovernmental, and commercial or even individual intents) to inquire different spatial situations and practices. Studying legal, political, economic, cultural, and strategic assets that provide prolific grounds for exceptional spatial performances, it presents argued ideas and principles of exclusiveness across the scale of spatial conditions, including areas of outer space, airspace, and the earth's surface and interior, claiming them to demonstrate and apply stated principles. Two philosophical concepts of 'free space' and 'island conditions' are further exemplified as spatial modalities, logic, structures, strategic moves, and sets of legal and other instructions or incentives considering the parameters of the platform. The first concept is scrutinised within the legal concerns about the use and ownership of cosmic territories and the overall cosmospatial and geospatial environment (present in all cases of exception by providing freedom and immunity over certain aspects of the objects in question). The second concept is represented as the perfect metaphor and concrete spatial condition of exception at almost each of the mentioned spatial scales, but is particularly examined considering lands and waters. 'Free space' is present as an all-pervading entity, still not completely subjected to human control, and 'island conditions' as smaller-scale fragments, displaced, differentiated, or newly created identities with regard to the surrounding environment. The stated notions about the analysed concepts are guided towards the definition of parameters that are operative and influential in design thinking and practice within the aim of eventually constituting a ‘strategic principle of exclusiveness allocation’ for the purposes of concrete spatial intervention, critical problem-solving and decision-making.https://www.strand.rs/2019-proceedings

Posledice sniženih standarda u procesu ozakonjenja stambenih zgrada na životnu sredinu i kvalitet života korisnika
The economic power of the population that migrates is below the level that allows the purchase of apartments in towns at market price. Cheaper illegally built residential buildings are most common form of resolving housing issue for this group of people, as evidenced by the fact that illegally built settlements in Belgrade cover as much as 40% of the area determined according to the General urban plan for housing. The Law on the legalization of illegally built facilities provides for the reduced criteria regarding the fulfilment of standards in the field of planning and spatial design. In this sense, it is possible to legalize the residential buildings that are not fully compliant with the Law on planning and construction, which envisages compliance with European standards, energy efficiency, accessibility, adequate quality of construction products and compliance with rules of construction. The above is not in line with the strategies for raising the level of sustainability of construction, which concern reduction of negative environmental impacts, with simultaneous increase of quality of life in the built environment. Having in mind the above, this paper analyzes possible deviation from standards foreseen by the Law on planning and construction in the process of legalization, as well as the consequences of applying this principle on the environment and quality of life of users of residential space. The paper points out the necessity of improvement of legal acts, that is, the process of legalization, which would also take into account the possibility of additional requirements for meeting the standards, especially regarding the aspects that can be improved with additional investments
