Size in the process of design and realization in emerging architecture - The Digital Chain approach

    Get PDF
Emerging architecture, based on computational methodologies directly connected to design and realization, places new approaches in front of us and requires an examination of existing terms. One of them is the principle of the Digital Chain, established by CAAD Chair at ETHZ as an uninterruptible digital process with every step as a programmed entity connected by CAAD/CAM technology to universal interfaces. This paper investigates size in the design and realisation in emerging architecture following the principle of Digital Chain as a digital approach based on coding, manipulatively iterative, through scale and proportion, by variables. Code is connection from design to realization with complexity in its content of parameters (input) and in variations of received product (output) at one side. However, it is simple manipulation of the parameters (i.e. architectural expressions - size, scale and proportion) used and a complex combination of unique scale with different variables and direct correlations to the proportion as utilization of architectural products, such as drawings, models, prototypes or realizations. This paper considers emergence of size as a mixture of scale unification and proportion output (dimensionality) as components of code decided on the architect as fluid energy of the Digital Chain approach.

Considering the complexity of architectural requirements and general issues of design and realization, sustainability, maintenance, durability and recycling in emerging architecture, the topic of the integrity and life of architectural objects is highly actual. Architectural spaciousness as a creative activity and durability of construction in terms of careful and complex designing of the structure, has a multi-layered networked - common effect. This paper is a study - simulation of possible results during digital data driven design and realization in architecture and integrity of architectural objects in terms of improvement of architectural profession and architecture as a science.Posmatrajući kompleksnost arhitektonskih zahteva i opštih pitanja projektovanja i realizacije, održivosti, održavanja, trajnosti i recikliranja u novonastajućoj arhitekturi (engl. emerging architecture), tema integriteta arhitektonskih objekata je vrlo aktuelna.

Dreaming of a Midsummer Night’s Dream [STRAND 2020] [Recognition]

    Get PDF
Work on the project was divided into two segments: theoretical and experimental. Theoretical research referred to phenomenological and morphological aspect of scenic architectural presentation. Experimental part of the research was directed at the mobility study of architecture, where the aspect of production of oneiric atmosphere of elusive boundaries prevails. Methodological capacity of thus formulated research provides for an authentic base of a contemporary concept of interactivity of one, still classical (ancient-renaissance) understanding of the vision of Theater. On one hand, the life of an architectural concept is examined in reference to the esthetics of the new landscape, and on the other, to the kinetic architecture. Thus, the Theater program appears in a direct thematic and physical contact with the sky, water, ground and greenery of the Great War Island, Usce and Kalemegdan, while a daydream is named after the projected method. Precisely speaking, formal and functional or philosophical and esthetic thematization of this assignment includes interpretation of the oneiric character of architectural presentation – experience incorporated in a technological aspect of the projected. In that sense, A Midsummer Night’s Dream becomes architectural fiction, and the Theater becomes architectural reality, just as it was for Shakespeare: reality greater than reality

System Architect: Digital Literacy and Construction of the Digital and Object-Like Environments for Research Operations

    No full text
The emergence and the role of the software studies have been analysed and questioned on many levels. Scholars such as Anette Vee, Mario Carpo, Rob Kitchin and Martin Dodge investigated the subject in their particular spheres of competence: Vee considering the general pedagogic problems of programming and coding literacy and issues of digital literacy in general within the field of digital culture; Carpo concerning software application in architectural design in line with the implementation of knowledge about the digital tools with their critical assessment following the first and the second digital turns; Kitchin and Dodge (Ash, Kitchin and Leszczynski further) by focusing on the integration of the space and the code (the embeddedness of space with ubiquitous and pervasive computing) as a symptom of the digital turn in geography, which in line with Antoin Picon’s smartcities posited the grounds for most of the current decisions about the courses that space monitoring, digital spatial conversion, augmentation and extension are going to take in the upcoming years. Following such state of affairs, Allesandro Bava recently proposed a summary for the third digital turn announcing another important paradigmatic shift. Reflecting upon the last three decades of digitality, digital literacy and intelligence in architecture, the whole profession and architectural discipline have been challenged to evaluate their current status in this regard. The mentioned studies cover each aspect of everyday life – space, learning, economy, ethics, politics, governance and administration, culture, communication, health and questions of our changed psychological profiles and behaviours. The primacy, however, will be given to digitally intelligent ways of engaging with different forms of systems including their digital interpretation, transpositions and coding, construction and design as related to architectural learning and operation in some of the practical situations. The proposed case-studies investigate digital learning system prototyping as a specific methodology of data management, analysis, evaluation, critical assessment, memory and retrieval, as well as fully operational and interactive technical solutions for the digital environment. On the other hand, the case studies based on the real, object-like architectural experiments and didactics—architectural prototyping—are taken as comparative and control group to these more abstract categories, all together based on complex systemic approaches to learning, training and real application problems. Apart and in line with the broader concept and performances of system architects, the chosen narrowing will illuminate the line of systemic learning as a self-enhancing process as well as competent acquisition and authorisation of the know-hows in the digital and the real spaces alike. The systemic information-architectures and architecture-objects thereby constructed will be brought in relation to Gordon Pask’s notions on system architects, Cedric Price’s learning and conversing mechanisms and Negroponte’s architecture machine (the intelligence-as-environment that we will eventually all inhabit) as predecessors of today’s machine learning platforms and data-engines in the form of space/architecture

Velika pažnja u konceptualnom smislu je posvećena mogućnostima fazne realizacije kompleksa i njegove održivosti u razvojnom pogle- du, uz istovremeno jedinstvenu prostorno oblikovnu celovitost i atraktivnost.

The main idea of this interior design is to create visually larger, enlightened and more open spaces in a relatively small city apartment in Dorćol, Belgrade. Therefore, the design concept is based on the strong black and white contrasts, lightning effects, reflective materials and copper details as an aesthetic addition and accentuation. The interior is fully custom made – lightning, furniture elements, steel constructed shelves and kerrock table that creates the continuous form with the black kitchen surface made of the same material, bathroom furniture elements, copper mirrors et
