This study aims to deepen the understanding of Zacchaeus\u27 life transformation based on the narrative of Luke 19 in the context of everyday life. Using a descriptive qualitative research method, this study leads to an in-depth analysis of Zacchaeus\u27 character, actions, and responses, including the social and moral context surrounding his work as a chief tax collector. This study analyzes the biblical text to gain an in-depth understanding of Zacchaeus\u27 changes in attitude and behavior after interacting with Jesus. Through this approach, the study aims to highlight the impact of the encounter with Jesus on Zacchaeus\u27 daily life, his repentance response, and how these changes affect his social interactions. One of the main aspects of Zacchaeus\u27 repentance is restitution, namely the return of rights to those who have been harmed, which is a clear evidence of his moral and spiritual transformation. This study also links the principle of restitution in the story of Zacchaeus with its relevance to corruption cases in the modern era, emphasizing the importance of restoring justice as part of true repentance. The results of this study are expected to contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of Zacchaeus\u27 life transformation process, including internal and external changes, as well as its positive impact on his social environment. Thus, this study is not only a theological study, but also has practical relevance in the context of daily life and moral values. This study reflects the comprehensiveness and relevance in understanding the transformation of life based on the story of Zacchaeus\u27 conversion in Luke 19, as well as its implications for the practice of restitution in various social contexts, including in cases of abuse of office and corruption

Allusions and Omissions in Augustine’s Confessions

    Get PDF
This paper discusses possible biblical allusions and omissions in Augustine’s Confessions, arguing that the themes he presents can be understood with greater nuance if viewed in light of not only the scriptural passages he chooses to support them but also the verses from the immediate context, which he omits. The paper will examine four examples from within the Confessions: the way that in the Confessions but not elsewhere, he only utilizes the second half of James 1:17, eliding the phrase ‘Father of lights,’ his use of the term unam for his concubine, his depiction of his mother Monnica like the apostle Paul, and possible reasons for his elision of portions of the prologue to John. As a result, this paper has offered four possible instances of Augustine omitting, or only allusively referring to, specific scriptures throughout the Confessions: his omission of God as the Father of lights when referencing James 1, his allusion to the una columba of the Canticle of Canticles in describing his concubine, his undertone of Pauline episodes in recounting the tale of Monnica\u27s arrival in Rome, and finally his omission of John the Baptist from It has been suggested that, in each of these cases, a deeper grasp of the parts of the Bible that Augustine has left out can help us comprehend the major arguments that he has made in more depth

The development of technology has a great influence on the spiritual morals of children. In this case, the role of parents, churches, and Christian schools is enormous. Based on theoretical studies and practical experiences, this paper aims to explain how parents, churches, and schools can play a major role in developing children\u27s spiritual morals amid the onslaught of information technology. The method used is literature research based on biblical studies and practical studies based on experiences from parents at GKT New Life Semarang and Kindergarten Bintang Nusantara Banyumanik. This study concludes that parents, churches, and schools can build children\u27s belief in the Bible\u27s value through storytelling. Furthermore, social communication through family altars, online meetings for worship and fellowship, or private conversations for evangelism is also good to do. In addition, parents must be role models for children in spiritual matters, and the church must play a role in equipping parents. Christian teachers also need to be equipped to educate the children they are educated. Meanwhile, for teaching about the impact of technology, parents must firmly set boundaries and be an example. In addition, the church can also give lectures on the use of technology by the principles of the Christian faith and use it to preach the gospel. In schools, teachers must also provide teaching about the impact of technology and utilize technology as an attractive learning medium for children
